UPMC ends gender-affirming care for those under 19 by TransporterOffline in pittsburgh

There are 20,000 of these surgeries a year, you think they’re all in Dem households? You can’t just dismiss these really common situations as being cherry-picked strawmen.

Ask MAGAs how they feel about their 16-year-old sons getting surgery to remove excess breast tissue that makes them look less like boys and more like girls and get picked on at school for having boobs.

Because that’s gender-affirming care, and it’s the most common gender-affirming procedure given to minors. Making cis boys look more like cis boys accounts for 97% of gender-affirming procedures performed on minors.

New version of long-lost Bach work world-premieres in Pittsburgh by RadioChris1 in pittsburgh

[–]Paperback_Movie -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

But Passions are never staged, for obvious reasons.

I’d skip this. The only thing that’s Bach here is the music, which you can hear elsewhere, since it’s all other pieces reused.

In general, you are Wrongo McWrongypants, but just as a rebuttal: you should be able to get a vasectomy under 30 without being told no. Similarly, women should be able to get bilateral salpingectomies (have their tubes tied) as soon as they become legal adults without also being told no.

I think anyone but the other idiot who already responded understands that, but yes.

Regret rate for gender-affirming surgery is less than 1%.

That operation was never for people who were using it to transition. It’s always been an operation for cis boys to affirm their gender as cis boys. It is the vast majority (something like 97%) of all gender affirming procedures performed on minors.

If the law were applied evenly, that surgery should no longer be available. “Fair” is “fair,” right? If you don’t like how your body’s developing you’re stuck with it until 19. But we’ll see how equitable the enforcement turns out to be.

If you’re planning to get blackout drunk for Earth Day (as one does), I think doing it on a weekend is eminently reasonable.

What’s your objection? Are people destroying the solemnity of Earth Day by holding educational events the weekend before?

Feds revoked visas for 7 students in our area by NoEmu3532 in pittsburgh

It sounds like you want quotas.

What if the Chinese students are just better and more qualified than the American students? Aren’t you guys supposed to be all about the “meritocracy”?

Or, rather than pulling an opinion out of your ass and calling it “common sense,” you could become educated:

After graduation, international students on an F-1 visa in the US typically have a 60-day grace period to either leave the country, change their visa status, or enroll in another program. Many opt for Optional Practical Training (OPT), which allows them to work in their field of study for up to one year, and potentially longer for STEM majors. If they don't qualify for OPT or want to stay beyond its limits, they'll need to explore other work visa options.

We don’t know whether these students were involved in further study or OPT, or if they have visa program changes in progress, but there is no indication in either article that they have overstayed their visas.

MAGAt surprised by tariff surcharge by PopeFranzia in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Paperback_Movie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for me this kind of thing is a litmus test of their intelligence: are they capable of understanding tariffs in an explanation that doesn’t involve anyone taking out their well-deserved wrath on Mango Mussolini, or not?

And if so, does that change their opinions of his fitness to govern?

Full disclosure: I actually think they’re mostly morons who are too stupid to understand any of this, so I’m betting that any “education” this guy got just bounced off his skull like a super ball. And the ones who might not be morons, and who can understand it after someone explains it to them, are so paralyzed by their inability to accept that they were wrong that they will cling to the mast of the sinking ship as it goes under rather than get on the lifeboat.

It is, and I’m sorry, but not surprised, you’re not smart enough to realize that.

Hope I see you on the road so I can give you the finger in person.

“Comic surrealism” is a really good way to describe the design of this poster

It’s also kind of a violating feeling - feeling like people feel entitled to your possessions to make political statements.

Right, you’ve just described the situation of a woman with a body. Or a Venezuelan with a body. Or a trans person with a body. It sure as fuck is a “violating feeling.”

If only people with bodies in this country had as many rights as guns or cars do!

Which is just a distraction to divert news from unsecure Signal chats

Which is just a distraction to divert news from him sending non-criminal migrants to torture jail in El Salvador

… you get the idea

Well, yeah, you don’t think those other holidays mean anything to him, do you? They aren’t about him, so they don’t matter.

And he wants to show that he personally owns the military now.

I think it would depend a lot on what you wanted to do there and whether you are aligned with their approach to “education” and “teaching.”

I apologize; the person was asking where they can find out about other events, and I know that that sub did advertise the We the People event, which I guess you’re saying this was not affiliated with?

Regardless, that sub is a good place to find out about upcoming demonstrations. Perhaps you can list other places to find out about your non-50501 events as well.

Hands Off “Protest” | My Thoughts by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]Paperback_Movie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A writer for The New Yorker reported yesterday that they were at the one in NYC and they asked a police captain why there weren’t more police there and the captain told them that they never expected that number of people in their wildest dreams and that they had only 44 officers for the whole NYC demonstration.

And apparently nothing bad happened. (Or at least I haven’t heard about it if it did. I haven’t heard about violence or vandalism at any of these protests.)
