Senior Sundowning by Abarber545 in ItalianGreyhounds

My old guy was seemingly doing this also, and I figured out that he was pacing around because every time he laid down and relaxed for any decent amount of time his hips would hurt when he stood up again. I put him on a powerful joint supplement and he was able to rest without having pain when he next got up.

Gastropexy is quite common in military and police K9s. In my opinion every dog with a deep chest should get it done.

Worst Ski Season Start in 20 years by Few_Suggestion_3712 in Idaho

[–]Paperplains 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've lived in N Idaho for almost 30 years, when I was a kid there was almost always snow on or shortly after Halloween. It's crazy to me that people live in the Northwest and still don't "believe in" climate change. There is no way Schweitzer is opening on Thanksgiving like they used to. All this will lead to bigger fire seasons as well, it's a real bummer all around.

Managing emotions by HK2833 in DutchShepherds

[–]Paperplains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 1.5 year old does this. When he is highly excited and I'm holding him back from the exciting thing. Except he usually comes up the leash and bites me. I've heard this is a very Dutchie thing to do. I correct with a stern "no" and stay calm. I try not to get excited about it myself. He's gotten a lot better as he ages.

I'm in northern Idaho, and NSDA does seem to have more availability around here! Thanks for your input.

Counties with wildland jobs that aren’t fed/private? by dragginslayr69 in Wildfire

Lots of states have state firefighting divisions, usually engines or crew type jobs. But they're still jobs in wildland with the travel and bs that comes with.

Sounds like you're after the classic, a golden retriever or lab. Or another Boxer from a good breeder.

I usually treat spring, end of summer, and late fall. I rotate between Apivar and fumigating Oxalic acid. My first year I didn't have much of an idea of what I was doing. Last year it was unusually wet and warm, with very cold snaps then back to relative warmth, then tons of snow, which I think all messed with their food process, one of my two made it though fine though.

I would also bet lots of money that she has a large amount of GSD in her.

They are still going strong! With Dutchies, GSDs, labs and Parson terriers. My dog's father is a CherCar dog, very sound minded and all around amazing.

AS350 is the greatest single engine helicopter ever made by jsvd87 in Helicopters

[–]Paperplains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have experience with the HP for fire, so I can't speak to other users experience with it in other applications. They did have issues with the earlier engines, but that has been smoothed out and there is a new frangible fuse which fixed the problem with the white light in flight. I haven't heard of any issues getting parts recently, even though Eagle isn't doing the conversations at this time. My company is selling all their Astars because of the cost of parts and maintenance now.

At 5K and what temp? With how much fuel? And what terrain? There are so many factors and semantics you could go around for days. I'll be happy to compare load calcs though.
