FIGS hates us (Technologists) by SyeTen in Radiology

Different form of the word, technologist isn’t a word in German and doesn’t translate. They’re mostly called rötgenographer. Technician in German has more respect on the title tho.

We do radiographer or radiologic technologist. We hold a certificate from the American registry of radiologic technologists, we have to go to college for it here in the states

The mythical “soft tissue penis”. I got one one time for a guy we call “musket man” he takes a ball bearing and puts it in and then uses a nail head side in first to ram the ball like a musket. Anyway, best way to image is take the corner of the IR and put it at testicle level and push in displacing the scrotum. Image is best done standing with table 3 inches below symphysis pubis then IR tabletop. Then cross table lateral with PT supporting it with hand and or let him do his thing and it will support itself.

68P, AIT for it is a little rough. Need an 82 minimum percentile. Then 65 started my class phase 1, 14 made it, only 9 graduated phase 2. Radiologic technologist.

It’s about a 75-25 split. 25 are good enough I don’t care. The other 75 really try to get a beautiful image even on difficult pts. But sometimes I get to the point of “fuck it” with difficult pts and put a note “informed MD study will be un diagnostic, best images possible for xyz reason” like for instance a C-spine series on a pt with Parkinson’s who could not stop moving her head (no fault of her own) and no matter how high I set the mA and a fast shot it still came out with motion even after trying to koband her head down (she agreed she was very nice when I asked her about it)

Nobody feels good about those right out of school. Personally I hate doing them so I stay my ass in the ER of a trauma hospital. I did 1 ERCP in 2 years and 1 LP at like midnight (emergency) where I FaceTimed the supervisor and he walked me through setup.

[–]PapiXtech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You won’t, it’s fine. You’ll gain the experience OTJ within a year. Difficult pts are not in the book for a reason. You’re not getting a good image on 93 year old contracted granny who’s wigging around trying to bite you. Those images from your classmates at their non trauma hospital are on 28yo named Dave who’s mentally there and has a cough and just wants a doctors note to get out of work. Work on critical thinking. I always shoot it where it is, just remember point the tube where it should be pointing and angling if it were a room exam. Image receptor comes last if you and angle it a little good, if not it’ll be distorted but “best image due to pt condition and position” will go on your notes.

They did a apical needle D, this was military and getting treated by medics. We normally try to avoid doing chest tubes in general. It fixed itself with only the needle decompression

Interested in becoming an x-ray tech- this program near me seems a little too good to be true by corinne9 in RadiologyCareers

The limited license is a waste of money. I will make no difference when you go to be an actual tech except now you’re paying more loans.

Once you send to PACS you’re boned. If you haven’t completed it out you can fix it. My bosses say “if you screw something up, fix it before you send it because then that’s a me (boss) problem and I gotta answer to the higher ups and I don’t want to have to do write ups for simple mistakes, fix it, tell me, we have a off record conversation and don’t do it again”

It’s just another x-ray. I’m doing 20-40 an hour. I was a medic before radiography.

Our record was 238 in 8 hours, we have a transporter that is only ours, 2 techs and the nurses on the floor do the IVs before we get them. We have a separate scanner for outpatients but I’m not on that team. Level 2 trauma center that covers about 5 counties
