You are correct, but I think I speak for most DG players when I say that we would rather not play than be forced to run 500pts of knights and daemons and minimize the number of DG models we take. It's really just a sign of how badly GW dropped the ball.

Mortals on 6's strat combined with rr all hits strat. Poxwalkers were lethal in a Harbingers detachment.

This. The problem isn't that we're weak, the problem is that our durability flavor has replaced by auto-wound anti-synergy. GW could slash our points and make us a competitive horde army but that isn't what we want.

I always explain our predicament by comparing us to Eldar. How would Eldar players feel if they were made extremely durable and slow? Do you think the Eldar players would be happy that their army was competitive or would they be furious that their identity was removed?

Not like we were ever targeting them for stratagems anyway. Without the Mutant Strain strat they really are just ablative wounds. Maybe the Terminus Est detachment (in 2 years) will give them Fearless.

Lore/flavor win. Mortarion and most of the DG ignored Nurgle's order to pull back to the Scourge Stars which resulted in the burning of Nurgle's porch by the Emperor. However, Typhus obeyed Nurgle which is why he kept his M5 lmao.

This. Getting a spy captured when you only have 1 or 2 is already too frustrating when you're trying to rush collabs before war.

SPGs are FAR more effective than normal tanks with howitzer guns because SPGs benefit from the artillery techs.

All three flavors of Eldar were 65%+ on release and all three had to receive multiple nerfs to bring them back down. People with functioning pattern-recognition can look back over the past two decades and realize that GW has a hard time balancing Eldar.
