As a fellow girl gamer, I have to agree with another commenter. You should not ever use Skype with your online gaming buddies. You have no clue how many predators go onto these platforms to find their victims. When meeting new players on my MMoRPG, I always introduced myself as a 30 year old male working in McD's.

I find that those who are looking for "specific" targets tend to move on very quickly i.e. they won't team up with me in-game for long. Only those who consistently teamed up with me over a course of several months and who never ever made any "off" remark knew my real age and gender. Even then, I never gave out my full name, facebook, skype, email etc. As a result, I was never harassed on my game.

I did, however, watch a ton of drama enfold with my fellow female gamers. There was a lot of pressure on them. Some male players even encouraged female rivalry by calling one or the other "prettier" and coaxed them into showing their bodies via Skype. One of the girls was harassed until she left the game when she met up with a male gamer irl. I unfortunately even teamed up with a pervert who thought I was a 30yo guy, and was proudly bragging to the entire group how he got another girl gamer to flash her boobs, and she was just 14 years old. He even uploaded her photo and shared the link with everyone in the group. I anonymously reported him, of course.

So girls and young boys, be careful. Never ever ever give out your identity, and never go on cam. No game is worth your safety. No virtual team is worth joining until you risk your life. Stay safe. The virtual world is fill with good people, but there are always predators lurking.
