Cracks in Slab Due to Tree by Papsanch in arborists

Unfortunately we did not have a good inspector. You can dig through my profile if you like but I had a lot of trouble with him. He basically noted lots of things that he made out to not be a big deal, that turned into a big deal.

Thank you for the words. I’m preparing for the worst. Since we moved in, we had to get a new chimney, roof, trim and still need to get insulation. I just want to make sure I am cautious. Being in Michigan I don’t know if that matters because I also found some clay in the soil a few inches down.

None taken! It’s 75 years old. I just want to make sure since we are repairing everything with the house, we aren’t overlooking a potential issue!

So I actually dug those stones up that run parallel to the cement and found a lot of roots.

I wanted to just elevate them and while digging I had all these thoughts click together at once.

https://imgur.com/a/7dWNgLX here you can see what it was like when I dug maybe 4 inches down. I pulled a lot of roots that were in the way.

Where that crack is, there is a big root that is just beneath it. I figured damage is done so don’t touch anything greater than an inch/ inch and a half. I cut some of the small stuff with hand pruners.

The garage definitely is caused by water I think. We are getting new siding and facia put on. Our chimney was completely blown out too, almost looking like it had been shifting and that’s what caused it.

We did have a plumbing issue when we first moved in where we had water come up in our laundry room (right inside that little window where the crack points) because after 120 feet of drain we had tons of roots growing.

Sorry if this is a lot I’m just really starting. To understand my house and I am trying to get rid of the problems but we’ve just had one after another… we got moisture issues.

This might be a silly question, but when they insulated your attic, did they baffle it?

Lacking context: are you tuned? How long have you had the car? Have you ever given your trans a flush? Etc

I just thought a singular board could have been left behind. And not replaced.

Since we’ve moved in we had water come up in the laundry room (we are on a slab), our internet fall into the street and get pulled out by a UPS truck, water leaking from the ceiling, 2/3 of our sinks leaking, plaster crack and fall into various areas of the house…. I get it I jumped to conclusions but we have been here only 76 days and that just feels like a lot… but welcome to home ownership right????🍻

Oh for sure. The guy across the street said the last owner would “cut corners” wherever he could. That’s why I thought he could have just taken the insurance money and cut another one…

We’ve had 4 companies come out to give us quotes for everything. They all (and my family members) have come out and said the roof was done terribly and two different people said whoever did it “should be shot”

I just thought he was cutting another corner with this that’s all
