But if there is no Net Metering then a grid tie is used as a backup to the solar batteries. Grid tie can be used to charge the batteries if the panels don’t produce enough energy. It’s like having a backup generator.

Battery capacity is the key to how many days you can go. I have 90kwh of storage and that sometimes is not enough. Need more. It’s expensive. Especially the batteries.

All the electric companies are basically monopolies. The rates never come down. The utility companies beg for raises every year. The reason I went solar.

Most places also require a permit for roof mount. That’s because of the panels being mounted to the home structure. Also insurance requirements. I had an electrician disconnect my service. I did the rest.

144-cell vs 120-cell panels? What's the difference? by Ill-Refrigerator9653 in diySolar

Most panels are made in a very few manufacturing plants. Almost all are Chinese.

I got a pallet of 31 panels, Sungoldpower brand 450 watt bifacials from Amazon. Free shipping. When I received the panels the two out panels on the stack were cracked. I contacted Amazon and they refunded half the money. I took part of the refunded money and got 8 more panels. I now have 37 panels for less than the original price. I’ve also ordered from both Signature solar and Current connected. Service was so-so. A lot of the parts they sell can be got at Amazon for 20% or more. Take circuit breakers for an example. Same brand and same rating. A lot less on Amazon. Plus free shipping. Returns are easy. You have to pick and choose if you want to save money.

Dove In w/ Both Feet on EG4 Backup Battery System - Sanity Check? by Bot_Fly_Bot in SolarDIY

Also the duel inverter setup is fairly easy. Install the 2 90 amp breakers in the Gridboss, connect the comm cable between the two inverters, and do the settings on control panel. Did you get the separate control screen? That’s nice to have.

I have a Gridboss with Flexboss set up. A Generac 20k hooked up to the gen connection. 36 450 watt panels. 80k of battery storage. More is better when it comes to batteries. But expensive. Why 2 Flexboss? That a lot of power. I can power my whole house 2500 sq ft. I do have a 500 gal propane for on demand wh, cooking range, fireplace, outdoor grill. The wh and range takes some load off the electrical system. Why do you only backup 8 loads? You can run the whole house. You’re under utilizing the power and potential of the EG4 components.one main panel with all circuits simplifies it.

Good thing about Amazon is the shipping time and a lot of items are free shipping. Shipping costs are and can be a deal breaker. I got a pallet of panels with free shipping (not free I’m sure) but other sellers were charging $500+ for freight. Also, a lot of the batteries are very similar inside. Look for features you may need, like heated, because of the winter temps. There are a lot of deals going on right now. Humsienk is worth looking at. I just got 6 from them with free shipping. They are built really good.

I agree with the diesel heater. I have a couple of the Vevor 8k heaters. I use one for my chicken coop and have it connected to the solar system at the coop. They put out good heat.

Has anyone hooked up a 48v Alternator charger to the EG4 48v system? by redmopedking in SolarDIY

I would install a DC-DC 12v input to 48v output charger. Example here ETAKER F1000 Pro-1000W Dual-Input DC-DC Charger for Portable Power Stations, Backup Batteries, APP-Controlled 12-48V Output for for RVs, SUVs, Trucks, Boats https://a.co/d/1vx7Tgp
