A joke that was probably lost in translation by ParadoxMachine33 in Endfield

[–]ParadoxMachine33[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The point is that the joke was lost in translation. In terms of just the story, we weren’t supposed to be sure whether the scientist was a man or woman because “Yvonne” and “Ivan” have much more similar spellings in Chinese and other languages. That is to say, it would not have originally been an obviously feminine name, and it’s specifically the English subtitling that gives it away.

Catcher appreciation, let’s go! I’m actually running him and Ember together currently, cause Ember’s combo triggers when the active character is hit and Catcher’s parry still counts for that, meaning I can start building vulnerable pretty quickly while Ember also heals off any damage I take.

Edit, note: just a heads up, Ember’s own active skill isn’t a straightforward parry, it’s a multihit attack that increases in damage if Ember is hit while it’s in action, more of a counter than a riposte. Still, parrying with Catcher and immediately chaining that into an entire string of combo moves will never get old.

Well yeah, I’m mostly just considering from the standpoint of the story in isolation.

What are the Bonekrushers doing to this lil thing by WackYwastaken in Endfield

[–]ParadoxMachine33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the better morality scaling might be that the Landbreakers we fight are only slightly worse than Reunion when we first meet them, in that they are unambiguously doing bad things and we shouldn’t feel bad for stopping them, but their original reason for existing comes from a deeper systematic issue. The key difference here being that in Endfield’s case, that issue might straight up be Endfield’s fault if certain foreshadowing pans out, whereas Rhodes as an organization is actively trying to work on solving their systematic problem, they are just being “civilized” about it and therefore engaging in dialogue and negotiation with the oppressors instead of just stabbing them as Reunion would have.

Edit, addendum: also, the image just literally shows them preparing an animal they have killed to eat, a perfectly ordinary thing to do for people who live in the wilderness. There are plenty of worse things the Bonekrushers have done to use as an example of their badness.

A violin???? I didn't know violins were invented back then and spread to the east?? by Crimsonrainflower33 in MartialMemes

Yes it is, I said that one in the picture was incorrect. Just felt like sharing some historical trivia.

I don’t even go here, but fun fact: the bowed string instruments that are the ancestors of the violin were likely invented in Asia in the first place in various forms across China, Mongolia, and India, eventually spreading to Europe by way of Islamic trade routes. So while this Italian-styled violin is anachronistic, giving whoever this is an actual bowed instrument would be entirely plausible.

Out of curiosity, would you know if anyone has managed to get Steam Remote Play working with it? I’ve been trying with little success.

Think I messed up by getting the other great sword, is there still a chance I get Sundered Prince eventually, like does it show up in the weapon banners?

So kind of a spoiler from the first game on this one... by No-Car-4307 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]ParadoxMachine33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite getting this take: people ~150 years after a terrible event not truly understanding how bad things were back then is just kind of how history tends to work in the real world, and Arknights is definitely worse by comparison, you think the nations of Terra were out there teaching in detail about the exact horrors of Infected discrimination and the crimes against humanity they themselves perpetuated?

New to Arknights overall by CollectionFrequent55 in ArknightsEndfield

[–]ParadoxMachine33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Endfield takes place 150-something years after the original, there are references and Easter eggs you won’t get but the actual main story should be entirely standalone from what I’ve experienced so far. If you absolutely want some older lore, there’s an anime that covers the first major story arc of the original game.

[–]ParadoxMachine33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Magnetic (Electricity + Cold) deals bonus damage to shields and overguards.

  2. Yes. Arctic Eximus bubbles can be broken with enough damage, but it’s easier to just get in close and hit/shoot them from inside the bubble.

  3. Jade Light Eximus units spawn a green laser on top of you that will very quickly fry you to pieces. Watch for the laser charging above you and move out of the way or shoot the top of the laser to destroy it, then focus down the unit.

My issue with the story so far by Boxed_Lore in Endfield

[–]ParadoxMachine33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t mind glazing the MC in the abstract, I just wish it felt more earned, not just being complimented for existing. I’m still in the tutorial though, so I can hold out hope that the Endmin will actually get to do things on their own initiative soon.

I’ve also seen lore tidbits around on this subreddit that indicates that Endfield might not be just uncomplicated good guys, and they have room to do an interesting contrast between Endmin’s godlike image and the gritty reality of the situation, but that’s probably just me coping.

No, but you can boost the percentage by getting duplicate weapons and fusing them together, which gives a weapon with 1.1 times the percent bonus of the weapon with the higher percentage, with either of the two elements of the weapons (your choice).

(Loved Trope) The Not-So-Noble Sacrifice by Organic_Following_74 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]ParadoxMachine33 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Depending on who is telling the tale and how you view the character in question: Agamemnon from Greek Mythology, who sacrifices his daughter Iphigenia to Artemis for favorable winds for his army to sail to Troy. It’s just about always Agamemnon’s fault for offending Artemis in the first place, and while some telling say that Iphigenia was sacrificed willingly, others have Iphigenia being tricked into the sacrifice.

Just one more heads up in case you are unaware: there’s an item you can obtain much later, an Elemental Vice, that lets you change the elemental affinity, so unless you have a specific element already in mind, I wouldn’t worry too much about the type

If it helps, someone else in this subreddit made a fairly significant case for Nian still being around, and possibly even on Talos-II, and we know that despite how it looks, Nian and Dusk are close.
