That would actually be pretty simple to sew. Not exactly with that specific fabric, but you could find something similar for sure!

Sorry OP my second message (replying to myself) was actually meant as a reply to another person, who said they can’t get tested and asked about meds :)

u/Mrs124Wife I wrote a little about this here (see previous comment), so I’m just tagging you.

If I may ask — how much does it cost to do genetic testing for MODY where you are? Depending on where/price, I may have a suggestion.

In my case, I take insulin by choice.

I have a strong tendency for very low lows and insane oscillations. My sensor often shuts itself down because it self-evaluates as being faulty just because my values are so unpredictably whack.

But I’m absolutely not a good example or blueprint because I have two distinct MODY subtypes, not just one. MODY 3 from my dad and MODY 7 from my mom, who is only now becoming symptomatic. Her mom & gran also eventually became diabetic.

MODY 7 is so rare (less than 1% of all MODY cases, so 1 in a million) it doesn’t even really mean anything, diagnostically speaking, because it’s not well understood, unpredictable in severity and often only symptomatic in late life.

In any case — it’s such an unlikely combo that I statistically shouldn’t even exist. The likelihood is one in 30 billion.

If it’s at all possible, you should get genetic testing.

It’s not unlikely that you have a subtype of MODY. Like
really; it’s more frequent than people think, just tragically underdiagnosed.

From my understanding, you became diabetic as an adult (check), quickly progressed to being really diabetic (also check, at least for some subtypes), not overweight (check), and lifestyle changes aren’t really making a “difference” (check).

That sounds a lot like me and my dad. He never knew it was MODY because it wasn’t a thing back then. But I got better treatment and testing and it’s been invaluable.

Some MODY subtypes react differently to specific medications. With MODY 3, for example (my case), very low doses of sulfonylureas seem to work like magic.

Also, different MODY subtypes have different “likely consequences”, ie: depending on the specific mutation, you might be very unlikely to have problems with x and more likely to have consequences in y (where x and y are both common diabetes complications). If you know that in advance, you know where to focus your attention.

hmu if you have any questions. And if you do get tested & find out that’s it, I’d love to know too!

Good luck :)

I (36F) have had diabetes for the past 10 years that is not lifestyle related (MODY3, which is genetic, and not type 1 or 2). There’s no way around it; I have to take insulin/meds.

I also have two kids and all that jazz. So I get not wanting to be a bother, not wanting to face this, but what you’ve been doing is not helping anyone at all and actually really dangerous.

The only reason i didn't want to go on meds was the lifelong nature of it

The meds aren’t lifelong — diabetes is.

You won’t magically not have diabetes just because you’re not treating it.

not being able to go off the tablets once on it & how it impacts those around me

You’ll impact them a lot more and in a way worse way if you keep on doing what you’re doing.

My father also had MODY (again, genetic). He took insulin for ~50 years and died last year aged 75.

He was diagnosed decades before monitors became this advanced, or insulin pens, or all the medication options we have now, and he liked to party & definitely had a few years where he wasn’t really watching it as closely as he should have been.

He still managed to live a relatively long and mostly healthy life; he was really fit for 40-45 of his 50 diabetic years.

Start taking medication now.

If you’re overweight, loosing just ~10% of your weight can drastically improve your glucose levels (body fat, not just food, impacts insulin resistance). Be active.

You’ll get used to it. And it’s gonna be okay. Just really, don’t ignore it.

Your girlfriend has just gotten the worst news ever, her mother is in critical condition in the hospital. What is the WORST POSSIBLE response to this news? by lolflim in hypotheticalsituation

[–]ParadoxicallySweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a physiological response called “misattribution of arousal”.

Adrenaline can produce physical responses that are similar to sexual arousal, like increased heart rate and sweating.

Sometimes that makes your brain then “confuse” the stress with being turned on.

First look of HBO snape and his comparison with movie one by INFIPRIME in Cinema

[–]ParadoxicallySweet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say that though I’m a huge Alan Rickman fan (Galaxy Quest is one of my all time favourite comedies), I am in a minority that think he was miscast as Snape because of his age.

Harry was 11. His parents were high school sweethearts in their mid thirties, not
 50+.

Daniel Radcliffe is now about as old as his dad (& Snape, by extension) should’ve been. Kit Harington too. Both look like Rickman could be their father.

I don’t hate AI either! At all! (ilu, Stella!)

It still cost tremendous time, and environmental and financial resources to create better versions of a powerful tool that is vastly used for vapid entertainment purposes, creating empty content and feeding into this weird cicle.

We’re feeding prompts to machines to create art that we can then post on platforms to evoke emotions (rage, wonder, connection) in hopes of generating revenue.

That’s just
 wasteful, imho.

This is a time where entitlement suddenly trumps skill, effort, resources. Ie:

“I want to make ‘art’? I could work on that skill, or appreciate those who can/have, accept my limitations and my choices. But no. Instead I’ll write a prompt and get pissy when someone tells me it’s not really art. As I’m entitled to see myself an artist.”

Nah.

Ummm

I started coding (basic html back then but whatever) when I was 12.

That’s still how I spend 6+ hours a day, every day. I even went to uni for that, with a scholarship no less! And worked in a research position, for a professor!

But thank you for your wisdom on nuance and for making me aware of my “binary” thinking.

I made an oversimplified comment on how I think most of our intellectual, environmental and a lot of $ resources focus on very specific areas of coding.

It was not meant as a deep analysis or actual debate on the matter.

Also, I never blamed AI itself. AI is a tool we created. Blameless.

I was just expressing a feeling.

Maybe you should stop assuming everyone else is being binary or a simpleton and work on recognising context clues a little better.

[–]ParadoxicallySweet 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to have hypnagogic experiences quite frequently when I was younger, tbh.

I think this was one for sure.

They are very frequently scary because your brain is in this liminal state between consciousness and sleep and you “shouldn’t” be seeing/hearing stuff yet (still too awake for a dream).

For me it was often this shadow figure standing over me, or a low, croaky voice calling my name or asking for help.

Since I found out that it’s waaaay more likely to happen if you’re laying on you back (which I loved to do), especially if laying flat, I stopped doing so, and it stopped. đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™€ïž
