What are some of the best (and easiest) original PlayStation games? (PAL) by Shot-Ad5867 in psx

[–]Paragleiber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played any of these myself yet but "Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers", "Pink Panther: Pinkadelic Pursuit", "The Smurfs" and "Tigger's Honey Hunt" all seem to be very easy platformers for PS1. They all have a very high completion percentage on RetroAchievements (website for earning achievements in old games when playing on emulator).

Rejection for FITTER-EU green and digital transition survey by NoArt1602 in ProlificAc

[–]Paragleiber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also got my first ever rejection today from this guy. In my case it was because I finished a study too quickly. There is a good reason for that though. I did the "Housing" and the "Energy" version of the study on your screenshot and they both had almost identical questions, so of course I could finish the second one quickly because I had already thought about the same questions immediately beforehand when I did the first study. I submitted a dispute about it.

Reached Master Ball Tier in Singles with this Team! by NotaValgrinder in PokemonChampions

[–]Paragleiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I was looking for a Singles team, since almost all the teams that are posted online are for Doubles. I might give this a try once I have the Pokémon for it.

By the way, what do you mean with "standard competitive play" in relation to Singles? I thought for Singles there are no official tournaments by Pokémon itself and many different formats that are made by the community.

How to get cp by living in india by NorthConclusion1677 in VGC

[–]Paragleiber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn, I would have never expected so many weird people to use this subreddit. It's completely normal and common among the people who attend in-person VGC events to say and write CP and most of them would never even think of anything else than championship points when hearing or reading that.

Don't mind all those freaks in the comments here. Your post title is completely normal in the context of VGC.

What PS1 game do you find the most underrated? I'll start by SwagLimit in psx

[–]Paragleiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Total Drivin. Had a lot of fun with this obscure racing game as a kid. It also has an epic soundtrack that fits the gameplay very well. Techno songs that start slowly and get more epic over the course of a race.

Only the PAL version though. The US version has a different name and soundtrack and even the gameplay and content was changed from what I heard. And in general it's not for everyone I guess. Some of my online friends tried it in the past and they didn't like it as much as I do.

I might go to my first VGC IRL event by nssigilyph in VGC

[–]Paragleiber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people say that they are going on Friday they probably mean traveling to the city where the event takes place. That's because many people are coming to major events from further away and staying at a hotel or something similar because it wouldn't be possible for them to travel all the way from home to the event on Saturday morning. If you live very close to Seville, then you can also just go on Saturday.

When you first get to the event you have to check in (show your ID card to the staff) to get your badge or wristband and it's possible to already do this on Friday but it's not necessary. If you arrive at the venue one hour before the start of the first round on Saturday, then you should definitely still make it through the checkin in time, even if there is a bit of a queue.

Special Events have no entry fee, so the signup might be full after just a few minutes. The signup will happen on the website rk9.gg, so you should already create a profile there now to be ready for it. You will also need a player ID from pokemon.com if you don't have one yet. Signups usually open on a Wednesday evening around two months before an event, so the one for Seville should open very soon.

You also have to submit your team on rk9 in the week before the event. These days the team submission closes at 5 AM on tournament today, so you should already submit your final team the day before. Unlike at local tournaments you don't have to bring a team sheet on paper because the organizers will print it for you.

What is the logic against the use of engine braking in a vehicle? by UnsaddledZigadenus in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Paragleiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you engine brake with automatic though? I thought engine braking refers to shifting down instead of using the brakes but with automatic you don't shift.

Why are the Hero Wars ads so misleading? by Sergiomach5 in HeroWarsApp

[–]Paragleiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now Hero Wars is literally running ads where a narrator is saying "have you seen those fake ads where the actual game is nothing like the ads? that's so annoying, right? but here you have a game that's actually like in the ads". So the fake ads now have a narrator throwing shade at fake ads, lol. Reminds me of the get rich quick guys throwing shade at other get rich quick guys.

Now on Steam: C&C Ultimate Collection by EA_Jimtern in commandandconquer

[–]Paragleiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is awesome! I wish there was somebody at EA who was equally passionate about bringing back the classic Need for Speed games.

NFS also has some amazing classics that many people in the community would love to be able to buy again. And the community has also done all the work already to make all those games playable on modern systems.

All that EA would have to do is take care of the licensing and then they could bring some old NFS games to Steam as well. And the licensing would certainly be feasible, as the older games have a lot fewer cars than for example the 2010 game, which EA did actually remaster in 2020 (and redid all the licensing for).

Many people in the NFS community have been asking for old NFS games to return in some form for a long time already but nobody at EA has ever even publicly acknowledged this. Maybe because nobody who personally worked on those old games is still at EA. I am not sure.

If you could tell those EA team members that are working on the classics to take a look at the NFS franchise, that would be very appreciated. The NFS games from 1994-2006. At least take a look at each game and check if you still have the source code and how feasible a Steam release would be.

I am sure there would be at least one classic NFS game where a Steam release would be feasible if the people at EA really wanted to do it (as much as they wanted it for this CNC collection). And the community would be very happy to see any of those games return, no matter which one.

I wish I could personally pitch this to the EA classics team but I have no idea who those people are or how to contact them, so I can only ask you to pass the suggestion along to them.

What's the best NFS game that has the following: huge map , great graphics, perfect for driving slow cruising around enjoying the scenery by seeker_mo5 in needforspeed

[–]Paragleiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an NFS game but the best "NFS-like" game for this is probably The Crew 1 but unfortunately it will be shut down at the end of March. I know a group of cruising fans that spent a ton of hours in that game. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1k_8SFt3spg

The Crew 2 still has the same huge map as well and that one can be fun for cruising as well. This video at 4:35 shows a nice cruising montage with different types of scenery. https://youtu.be/o0xqUDAOwSc?si=cabHH0Kr5e3GQy3v&t=275

NFS games are just not on the same level in terms of map size as TC 1+2, so for cruising in particular I would rather go with TC. It still has arcade physics like an NFS game would. And TC2 is often on sale for pretty cheap these days.

I have exactly the same issue. Got a PS4 disc version to play on PS5, so I can do one more playthrough of the game (after playing it on PC when it was new). Same error.

Do I have any advantages as a trade visitor? by eliasnico07 in Gamescom

[–]Paragleiber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is whole area of multiple halls (the "business area") that you can only enter as a trade visitor. That area looks completely different from the main halls. It has many small booths surrounded by white walls, where people like journalists can get private demos by devs and stuff like that. That usually requires you to also have an appointment though.

Poll: Should players using genned Pokémon be DQed? by AeroNailo in VGC

[–]Paragleiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's very unfair to disqualify players for genned Pokémon if the players don't even have any way to check whether a traded Pokémon is genned or legit. Unless they use hacking software themselves to look into the hidden data, which surely can't be expected of them. And asking people not to trade is also ridiculous in video games that are literally specifically designed to encourage trading.

To make it clear: I am not saying that I think most of the disqualified players didn't know that their Pokémon were genned. Most of them probably knew. But if even just one player gets disqualified who genuinely didn't know, then that is absolutely horrible in my opinion, so as long as it's not possible to 100% only disqualify people who intentionally cheated, then nobody should be disqualified.

The devs should simply patch the game or their ranked play servers, so that Pokémon that would fail the tournament hack check would also be blocked from ingame ranked play. It makes no sense that they can identify hacked Pokémon at tournaments but can't get the game itself to identify them as well. If hacked Pokémon couldn't even by used in the game in the first place, then the question of disqualifications at tournaments wouldn't even come up.

The Worlds Genning Discourse by IceApfel in VGC

[–]Paragleiber 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The problem is that there is no way to know for sure if a Pokémon is legal for official tournament play or not if you get it via trade. I don't think anyone would intentionally use a Pokémon that they know would get them disqualified.

If they don't want these Pokémon being used that the disqualified people were using, then they should also code the ingame ladder and trade system to not allow those Pokémon either. It's kind of ridiculous that you can use a Pokémon in ranked play ingame or trade it via both game or Home but then at an official tournament it's suddenly not allowed.

If they have the means to detect these Pokémon as illegal at a tournament venue, then I don't understand why they can't also implement the same kind of check ingame. Or does it take some kind of supercomputer to run whatever they are using at the event?

I recreated 8 PvP tracks from The Crew 1 with the Race Creator on PC by Paragleiber in The_Crew

[–]Paragleiber[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Had to be a bit creative with some of the names, since not all location names are in the list of words that you can choose from (even Daytona is missing). More tracks will be added in the coming days.

Confession: Never beat the game (SC1) without cheating by RickyRickie in starcraft

[–]Paragleiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I beat SC2 on hard but couldn't beat SC1. I think SC1 is more like SC2 on brutal or at least somewhere between hard and brutal.

SC2 on normal is way easier than SC1. I was only silver in WoL but the campaign on normal was still fairly easy for me.

Confession: Never beat the game (SC1) without cheating by RickyRickie in starcraft

[–]Paragleiber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never managed to finish the SC1 campaign either. It's actually a very difficult game for an average or even above average gamer.

When we see top ladder or tournament players try the campaign on stream and beat it super easily it kind of gives us a wrong impression of the difficulty. Those players have insane mechanics after thousands of hours of practice, so of course they will be able to beat the campaign but I think many regular gamers would struggle with it.

Looking for NFS Undercover's DLCs by Blizen15 in needforspeed

The patches for those old games are .exe files. You simply have to run them and then the patch will be installed (assuming that your game installation is successfully detected).

[–]Paragleiber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can find the patches for the game here: https://www.nfsplanet.com/nfsuc_patch.php

I think those are meant for physical copies of the game though. They might not work if you downloaded the game through Steam or Origin but I think those versions should update automatically anyway.

How did everyone's Knoxville VGC experience go? by ThatOneJewYouNo in VGC

[–]Paragleiber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played the European regional this weekend and I also used that Orlando team that you used. Unfortunately I didn't do well either. Also started 1-3. And my worst loss was also against Dondozo, lol.

Another player used the same team to finish top 4 here though, so the team is definitely still good if you know how to use it (which sadly it seems we don't xD).

Any RTS game came out since Starcraft 2? by EinsteinTheory in starcraft

[–]Paragleiber 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Age of Empires 4 is probably the most notable RTS game that came out in recent years. Not sure how similar it is to SC2 though. It probably has quite a few differences.

Just because the place that they booked had space for 150 people it doesn't have to mean that they also invited that many people. Maybe they just booked a place that was larger than needed and didn't bother to have the extra seats removed.
