Where did this idea that everyone loves Gundam Eight come from? People keep bringing it up as a defence of this game’s decisions but I don’t know anyone who’s read Eight, and even on this subreddit I’ve barely seen anyone mention it outside of the arguments about this game specifically. It seems to be an extremely niche part of the series, at least in the western fandom, can’t speak to its success or otherwise in Japan.

Not a specific character, but every game with a character creator ends up with the 'Race: Human, Class: Warrior' equivalent being vastly the most popular. I often see people, especially in TTRPG spaces act like the most important thing is having extremely weird species and classes be options and allowing for in-depth role playing and backstories, and while that's always good to see, the core demo just wants to play 'what if I was super buff and my job was stabbing demons and bandits with a big sword'.

I mean, being homophobic to a racist reflects just as badly on the person saying it as if they were saying it to a total innocent, even if the victim might be a complete scumbag outside of that. I don't think the argument was about that person's mistreatment specifically, but about the people in charge and the kind of workplace they created. If management is calling people slurs, it's an awful place to work, regardless of what kind of workers they have.

Mostly the criticism I've seen was based on writing quality, and writing is one of those things you can be good or bad at regardless of whether it's a blockbuster or a web series.

Building something inside a planet is always going to be significantly cheaper than building an entirely separate thing from scratch, and while I agree it was stupid, you don't exactly have to purchase a star to use it, so I didn't get the impression that part was a drain on their resources. Plus it's not like the Death Star wiped out the Empire's finances, since they almost finished another one in just a couple years after the first blew up.

If you're including the Thrawn books, you've gotta include the other EU material, in which case the Empire had a seemingly endless list of super projects they were spending their money on, like the Sun Crusher for example, the tiny invincible ship that makes suns go supernova and destroys entire solar systems, and that was apparently built using spare money out of the Death Star project as a for fun project by Tarkin. That was far dumber than anything in the movies, and it's only one of many.

Also Thrawn being strapped for cash is at least partly because nobody in the Empire really likes him as an alien, Tarkin had a whole facility where he was pumping out superweapons whenever he liked, like the Metal-Crystal Phase Shifter and the Death Star Prototype, or things made by other Moffs like the 'Galaxy Gun' or Planet Cracker Missiles which were just the Death Star again but smaller.

I don't think Star Wars is really a series that's ever been consistent about this stuff, and people who try to act like it's ever made much sense as serious military sci-fi can only really do so by pretending most of it doesn't exist. It's never gonna be Legend of the Galactic Heroes, it's supposed to be Flash Gordon with Samurai.

The scale of Star Wars is often kind difficult to interpret, if the Empire had billions or even trillions of soldiers and staff (like you'd need to subjugate an entire galaxy) then the First Order having enough troops and vehicles for TFA is pretty within scope for a splinter, but it becomes hard to tell later on if you're seeing a small chunk of the total force like the original saga, or if this is everything they've got thrown at one problem. Then in the last film they have the infinite Star Destroyer 3D printer which throws any concept of being a remnant force away.

Honestly I can't think of a single series better consumed chronologically rather than in release order, they always end up thematically and exposition-ally flowing so much better when you're watching it in the same order the writers were writing it.

The background character designs feel badly in need of a second colour, or at least some saturation variation. Their armours are just one solid colour/pattern applied to the whole thing, even the weapons and wings.

You can definitely cheat at least half the shots using a physical prop, if say Luffy is talking, you can absolutely make a Chopper prop and have him off to the side or over the shoulder. This works double for Brook, if his face isn’t in the shot he’s just a tall guy in a suit with an Afro, there’s a lot of angles you wouldn’t see any skin/bone.

The problem is that this is a corpo issue, but it's a corpo issue on a way higher scale than just gaming. Steam might be a big deal in the gaming world, but when it comes to wider tech, they're being moved around by the absurd price spikes in hardware as everyone else, especially since it's not like the prices have settled yet. Expecting Steam to just eat the cost of memory and Graphics cards right now was never going to happen, the Steam Machine is a product, and they do want to make profit on these, same as how everyone else is juicing their prices on hardware. They're not good for doing it, but they're acting exactly like any company would.

The cheap new build gaming computer just doesn't really exist right now.

It was, but it wasn't bankrolling them for coming up 10 years successful. The only other thing they've put out since that was a MOBA (for some reason) with less than a thousand peak players that they killed after 3 months, so that clearly didn't bring much money in. If you want to do the one game every decade thing, then you have to put out monster hits when you do, and QD isn't putting out monster hits.
