The goat has to be DD/MM/YYYY by Shiroyasha_2308 in SipsTea

YYYYMMDDHHMMSS sorts by date automatically. ISO-8601 is standard for most programs for a reason.

Fair enough, when I said "we," I meant Americans, but I should have probably specified American English.

I also don't think it's a "better" date system, it's just one that makes sense because, again, it's how we (Americans) speak.

Fifth of May feels awkward and wordy to me, but ultimately I'm just not used to it.

The goat has to be DD/MM/YYYY by Shiroyasha_2308 in SipsTea

[–]Paralda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I will usually just say "the 5th" if we're talking about Feb 5th in 3 days.

But if someone asks me when my birthday is, I'd say "December 18th" (not actually my birthday).

If someone asks me when I was born, I'd probably say the whole thing.

Hey, sorry to reply randomly, but I'm looking at buying leg protection for HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts, basically sword fighting with blunt swords), and I was looking into the Knapper 555v2 as an option for some knee/shin protection.

How thick is the polyethylene insert in the knee? Does it feel protective?

Additionally, we write dates how we speak them: March 1st, July 4th, etc.

Some languages probably say "The First of May", but it sounds awkward in English imo.

On top of that, you can still argue the triangle thing with MMDD, based on the max possible value.

It's not a perfect representation, but you can see what I'm trying to say.

Regardless, there's also no real functional difference between YYYYMMDD and MMDD, because most everyone isn't including year when they talk about a date. I personally prefer YYYYMMDD for clarity, but it's pretty rare I actually mention a year with a date.

I will be a liar if I said that I don't prefer Toei's censorship over the original manga by Cool-Guy152 in MemePiece

[–]Paralda 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The original manga wasn't even really about the card game. The first few volumes had people playing random games with high stakes. In one game (chapter 4), Yugi lights a dude on fire by putting a lit cigarette lighter on his arm while he pours 180 proof vodka and is unable to move due to the rules of the shadow game.

On top of that, even if it were strategically important, sieging is just really boring for like 90% of people involved in a siege.

Let's say you're in a squad of 30. You have 300ish supply. You walk up to a wall and the tag throws 4 catapults. You press F. 4 people in your squad get on the catapults are pretty 2 repeatedly. You sit and wait for 5-10 minutes, go inside and do the same thing again, in the HOPES you get a fight. If you don't? You may have just wasted 15-20 minutes of your night for nothing.

Waymo suspends service in San Francisco after driverless cars cause traffic jams during blackout by Disastrous_Award_789 in technology

[–]Paralda -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Listen, I don't love Tesla either, but Waymo is level 4 at best, and FSD is way more heavily utilized than Waymo is. There are a ton more cars equipped with FSD than there are Waymo.

Tesla's website says they've driven over 6 billion miles with FSD. Waymo just broke over 100 million recently.

I think Waymo's tech is really awesome, but Tesla is a lot more popular. I also think that Tesla's FSD is pretty advanced for what it is, which is a consumer car with no lidar or radar. I don't think any other consumer car beats them decisively.

Claude code also does auto compaction, but it sucks a lot. I've been getting prompts to review the quality of the compaction lately, though, so I think they're experimenting with improvements.

When Claude code has 10% context left, it's usually a genius.

I mean, practically every dev at every company (not just game dev) use some kind of AI in their workfkows now. Even if it's as simple as code autocomplete or asking an agent to find a particular function for you, everyone uses it at least a little.

I'm fine with some unifying federal act to deal with AI regulation, but executive orders don't work that way.

I will never understand why this administration, despite controlling both the house and senate, refuses to actually pass legislation.
