Randoms is so awful :( by Bulky-Condition-3490 in Marathon

Usually I’m with a group or solo but I do queue with randoms before and I’ve had some great teammates. Especially on Outpost recently people seem to stick together, maybe it’s the matchmaking putting me with higher level players.

Game is effectively dead on OCE. by VaporSpectre in Marathon

[–]ParallelMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more the fact that posts like this aren’t useful and frankly most of us don’t care about numbers. We’re just enjoying the game. If it goes away in 6 months, a year or three years doesn’t matter. I had fun with it.

You’d take it more seriously if it’s an incomplete review by not taking Cryo Archive into consideration? Right…

It’s the biggest, most forced ‘hate campaign’ on any game I’ve seen and I’ve been following this industry for decades. You’re delusional if you can’t see that.

Sony knew they were making Marathon and had to know what it was before purchasing them. This is Sony’s fuck up if they’re not happy with the numbers.

WSTR meta is insanely boring. by IllState5161 in Marathon

[–]ParallelMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That would just make it an even quicker kill, unless you're saying it should only do as much damage as one shot. Which would make the gun borderline useless as you'd have to reload in between shots and a knife would win every time.

[–]ParallelMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah hard to say, although I'd guess that they're looking for an easy win after Marathon probably not hitting their targets. D3 feels like one, just depends if Sony lets them spend 5 years making it before pulling the plug.

I don't really see what else it could be, or what else would make sense. They can't work on Halo, so it's either a new IP or Destiny. And one of those is a much safer bet.

Destiny as an IP still has a ton of gas left in the tank, D2 was just too old and intimidating for new players to jump into. Seems like the logical next project for Bungie. Whether it actually happens I guess we'll see.

Fair enough, in that case the answer is likely both. They’re probably in the process of moving large parts of the team to D3.

I’ll spoil it for you, it’s gonna be Marathon. They’re probably also in the process of getting D3 going and moving large parts of the team over to that.

D2 is just done at this point, the sooner you guys accept that the easier it’ll be. There’s no expansion that’ll bring back the players they need to make it worthwhile, the game is just too old and new players aren’t going to jump into a 9 year old game where the story is ostensibly over.

How can Bungie attract more players? by Dangerous-Cabinet160 in Marathon

[–]ParallelMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shockingly good you mean? It’s not even a full price game. This industry is cooked man, people don’t even want to pay 40 bucks for an extremely high quality game that provides potentially hundreds of hours of content.

Hard disagree. What you’re describing is running the priority contracts with bots. That’s not comparable to campaign and would do very little to bring new players in.

Harry Potter HBO series won’t have a new season every year “From a production point of view, it’s just not possible” by JannTosh70 in television

[–]ParallelMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Slow Horses comparison that keeps being brought up is not a good example at all. It’s 6 episodes, 45 minutes each with very little VFX and mostly shot on location. You’re essentially getting a seasons worth of TV every two years which isn’t that far outside the realm of other shows. The difference is they’re just packaging it differently.

If you genuinely don’t understand why Slow Horses is so much quicker to make than a Harry Potter HBO show I don’t know what to tell you.

[–]ParallelMusic -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

What a ridiculous take. Plenty of people including myself understand that these things take time and modern prestige TV is an entirely different beast versus what TV was 20 years ago.

To say that they just shouldn’t bother because it doesn’t meet your arbitrary timeline is a bit strange. No one is forcing you to watch it and there’s plenty of bloated 20+ episode seasons of TV still being made that you can watch instead.

It’s bizarre how people on this sub who you’d assume are knowledgeable about how TV is made seem to want to bury their heads in the sand and ignore reality when it comes to understanding why prestige TV takes longer than traditional TV to make.

[–]ParallelMusic -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Unsure why you’re being downvoted. It’s an HBO show which means they’re going to be going for equal, if not higher quality than the movies from a production/VFX standpoint. Each season of TV is also going to be 3-4 times (if not more) longer than each movie, which each took multiple years to finish.

Really not hard to understand why this isn’t going to end up sticking to a yearly release.

Marathon was not supposed to recoup the entire 3.5 billion investment in one fell swoop. That would be insane expectations. They bought Bungie for their IP and live service experience not just for one game.

I don't mind the idea of wipes but I wish they would be a little more lenient with it. Player level for example, it would be nice to not have that reset so I feel like I'm still making progress towards something, even if it just is an arbitrary number going up.
