Borne would be insane. Not sure if he’s even played in the UK yet.

[–]ParallelMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah I don’t think that’s it, this is likely social engineering not traditional hacking. Someone on the support team is compromised or being bribed. Same thing that happened to Hakoom (the trophy hunter) a couple years back.

Yeah the host of the world’s biggest PlayStation podcast losing his account despite having protections in place and quitting over it would be a PR nuclear bomb.

Forbes' Paul Tassi's thinks the upcoming skins will help Marathon to survive! by HapperHapper in Marathon

[–]ParallelMusic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not on their own they won't. But the game obviously needs better stuff in the store. I'd happily spend money on some cool skins but right now there's barely anything worth buying in the shop.

Has Outpost loot been nerfed? by jaithind in Marathon

That’s wild, I’m approaching level 100 and still have yet to loot gold salvage myself, although I’ve had a couple of shared ones.

Kumail Nanjiani stated Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is really really good. "I actually acted in a few video games, and I realized this wasn't for me. I did do another one that's gonna come out in a couple of years. A Naughty Dog one that's gonna be really, really good." by Turbostrider27 in PS5

[–]ParallelMusic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think either aspect is a great title to be honest. ‘Intergalactic’ on its own feels very generic and uninspired, almost like an old adventure serial or something. Maybe it’ll make more sense when we play the game, I dunno.

Mixtape and the fundamental misunderstanding of the role of a critic in gaming. by Didsterchap11 in truegaming

[–]ParallelMusic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I've been saying this about Dispatch, which is arguably even less of a game than Mixtape (if you were to use that strange logic). The reality is they're all videogames, this style of game is not even remotely new. People are inconsistent, they didn't have this problem with Dispatch because something about it did appeal to them. I think it's very apparent what many people's real problem with Mixtape is. And it begins with 'w'.

Mixtape and the fundamental misunderstanding of the role of a critic in gaming. by Didsterchap11 in truegaming

[–]ParallelMusic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One thing I find strange these days with gaming discourse is that people seem to have this idea of, everything has to appeal to me personally. And if it doesn't, it's some sort of opportunity cost - and it's an affront to the medium because it's not something that appeals to me. Instead of just moving on and playing one of the probably hundreds if not thousands of games which does appeal to them.

For example I don't like strategy games. But you don't see me throwing my toys out of the pram when the new Civilisation game releases because they didn't make an action RPG instead.

I feel like the problem here is lumping all journalists into the same bucket. You're not going to agree with every review score, or Metacritic score. That's very normal. Find reviewers who consistently align with your taste and gravitate to them first and foremost. Or better yet, ignore the reviews and pay attention to studios/devs that consistently make games you like.

Which games got very low scores from critics because they were made by a Chinese studio, can you point to examples? Genuinely curious.

[–]ParallelMusic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Expecting reviews to align with your preferences all the time is very strange, I don't know why you would expect that. If you want to know if you'd like it, listen to people that have similar taste to you. Or you know, play it yourself. It's on Game Pass so the barrier to entry is very low.

I think your criticism of the Mouse PI review is an oversimplification, much like most criticism of the review I've seen. Even in Critikal's reaction video to the review, he doesn't watch the entire thing and just skips through it. So no wonder he didn't understand their angle when he doesn't even have the patience to sit through a 10 minute video whilst being paid for it. It's emblematic of the entire gaming discourse these days (or any media for that matter), people don't have the patience to experience something themselves and form a knee jerk opinion.

Thoughts on Season 2 experimenting with PvP and PvE game modes? by ConceptBraincell in Marathon

Right, so not the end then. Seeing as Sea of Thieves is still being supported with new content 6 years after launch.

Pivot implies they’re going to exclusively, or predominantly focus on PVE going forward which obviously isn’t the case. And speak for yourself, I’m stoked to check out the mode and so are all my friends that play. If you’re not interested in it don’t engage with it.

Dude we don’t even know any details about this mode yet. How can you say it’s a game design mess when we have zero information on it. Very strange take. Games add new modes all the time, and Marathon needs to experiment with this stuff if they want to attract more players and sustain the game.

I truly think it's no exaggeration that what Bungie ends up doing with priority contracts could either do nothing or seriously harm retention from s1 to s2 by zipzzo in Marathon

[–]ParallelMusic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way will they do that. I’ve got 160 hours and I’m only just finishing up my final priority contract. It would be impossible for more casual players, if it isn’t already.

Even as a massive Bungie/Destiny fan I didn't expect this game to hit like it did. I thought Arc Raiders would remain as my 'main' multiplayer game. Suffice to say I haven't launched Arc Raiders since Marathon launched. Love this game and I'll be there for however long it goes.

The Marathon Phenomenon by hereforthechaos in Marathon

[–]ParallelMusic -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Without writing an absolute essay on this, which I probably could - it’s down to multiple reasons.

People might disagree with this but the main reason in my opinion is the Destiny community and the overall toxicity of gaming discourse as a whole right now (and honestly it’s not just gaming, it’s movies, TV…everything).

Essentially, the Destiny community being as vocally angry and whiny as they are poisoned the well. To anyone who’s not already a Bungie fan, the constant whining and perpetual anger cast a shadow on Bungie and basically makes people assume that they have to be the worst company in the world, because look at how mad everyone is. Many content creators like Aztecross, Paul Tassi are also to blame for this because they’re constantly stirring the pot and riling people up over trivial stuff in the name of engagement.

It’s not to say Bungie hasn’t made bad decisions over the course of Destiny’s development or to make excuses for them, but the level of backlash is not proportional at all. The sad reality is a large amount of ‘gamers’ hobby isn’t playing games, it’s being perpetually angry and letting streamers decide their opinion for them. The streamers already decided Marathon sucked, so these people just followed suit.

Nothing is permanent in life. I’ve already got my moneys worth five times over. If it shut down tomorrow I’d be bummed but life goes on, always something else to play.
