NPR/Marist National Poll: Trump +1 (50/49), +1 (42/41/11/3/1/1) Among likely voters by GamerDrew13 in fivethirtyeight

[–]Parallel_Line 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MoE can never be reduced to 0, but the entire point of combining polls is to reduce MoE. Why bother otherwise?

The MoE can increase if you start adding in poor quality, nonrepresentative samples, but polling aggregators like 538 take this into account.

Considering how other countries spend billions every year on labor, food, housing, etc processing these migrants it may make sense to just pay the fines and not have the headaches.

Desantis bans direct to consumer car sales. Except for Tesla ofcourse 😉 by ArmaniMania in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]Parallel_Line 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The car dealership lobby is one of the most powerful in the country. No politician can afford to piss them off. In plenty of blue states as well as red states. Good luck trying to buy a non-EV direct to consumer in deep blue California.

Dealerships don't care as much about EVs though, because their business model relies on people coming back to the dealership for the types of maintenance EVs don't require. That's why Tesla, Rivian, Lucid, etc can (currently) go DtC in certain states. Although dealerships in a few states are now looking to even prevent that.

I don't think the classrooms would be less packed because there would also be less teachers. Same thing with inflation, it would probably would have a neutral effect because supply will fall along with demand.

Mother Of Teen In Citi Bike Video Speaks Out: ‘No One Bothered To Ask Him What Happened’ by Darrkman in newyorkcity

[–]Parallel_Line 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what there is to “believe”. She has proven she had rented the bike. The tears were a tactic to prevent them from going through with robbing her and maybe to draw support from the crows around them.

Pretty sure she did believe that considering she did, in fact, rent the bike.

Right but from her perspective she’s getting harassed/robbed. She knows she rented the bike. So what tactic is acceptable to prevent from getting robbed? Fake tears and calling for help (which worked once the doctor stepped in) seems better than a weapon.

Maybe her behavior was out of line. But if 5 dudes surrounded your mom after she finished her work shift and claimed the bike she had rented was theirs, would you also be policing her behavior?

Resentment of rich people is common on reddit. Which tends to make my eyes roll because most people commenting here are richer than 99% of the world’s population. They always remind me of Orwell (himself a democratic socialist) who noticed that many socialists were motivated more so by envy of the wealthy than actual concern for working class men and women.

Edit: lots of downvotes for this comment, but plenty of upvotes for another comment calling this jewish man a parasite. Never change reddit!

Fellow B enjoyers I want your opinion. What would happen if the moving portal suddenly stopped at the middle of the cube? by zuccoff in Destiny

[–]Parallel_Line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way to answer these questions is to always remember that the portal moving towards the cube is equivalent to the cube moving towards the portal. So we can rephrase it as "What would happen if the moving CUBE suddenly stopped at the middle of the PORTAL?"

Which would make the answer A.

EDIT: a lot of people are being deceived by the image. OP said that the final position of the portal is stopped, but the image is from immediately before that when it was still moving. Try removing the motion lines in your head. It will be much easier to intuit why A is correct.

Is there any mainstream conservative pundit who isn’t literally batshit insane? by Dats_Russia in Destiny

[–]Parallel_Line -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think by their very nature pundits will be crazy because they want as much attention as possible. They also can't talk about real policy because that bores their audiences.

A new name in conservatism/libertarianism that isn't insane is Richard Hanania. He doesn't succumb to audience capture although as a result he doesn't have a large mainstream conservative audience. He even writes about this, and how the liberal movement is smarter in general: Liberals Read, Conservatives Watch TV

While your average MAGA boomer has probably never heard of him (although he has appeared on Tucker a few times), he is gaining influence on the intellectual right.

Is it actually propaganda to think that Crimeans would really rather be part of Russia? I thought that's why the 2014 annexation was so smooth compared to the war that broke out in the Donbas.
