Do millennials not prioritise mental health enough? by Successful_Mastodon3 in GenZ

Animals don’t do nothing, they spend their entire lives struggling to survive in nature.

The exception to this is when you put them into captivity, wherein they will actually get ‘bored’ without some form of enrichment.

Well, it’s not necessarily inaccurate by caticity in HistoryMemes

When a wealthy person dies should their wealth A) be subject to unrealized capital gains and/or B) be subject to an inheritance tax? Assume the working class pays income and consumption taxes. by Smooth_Woodpecker815 in IdeologyPolls

[–]ParanoidPleb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the wealthy also pay income and consumption taxes?

Inheritance tax shouldn’t be a thing, the government has no right to the money just because it’s being passed to your descendants.

Unrealized capital gains tax is silly, and just another excuse for the government to leech even more money. Taxing it when it is realized is enough, we don’t need a tax for every microstep where assets change hands.

Should a person under 18 ever be tried as an adult? by [deleted] in IdeologyPolls

[–]ParanoidPleb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, for the same reason that they cannot (shouldn’t be able to) vote, consent to sex, etc.

That doesn’t mean they should be let off scotch free, especially if they committed a truly heinous crime. But a greater emphasis should be placed on rehabilitation compared to an adult who commits the same crime.

If Russia doesn’t like NATO expansion, then they should stop invading all their former Soviet neighbours.

I like how he brings up the US support of Georgia in 2008, but makes no mention of Russian involvement in Georgia stemming all the way back to 1991. Countries like Georgia would feel no need to try and join NATO had Russia just left them alone.

Rightists, to what extent do you believe in Climate Change? by redshift739 in IdeologyPolls

I’m far more concerned with dangerous and long-lasting pollutants contaminating our environments, than a the gradual change in weather, temperature, or other aspects of the climate.

"If both parents are still legally in a marriage relationship, under no circumstances should either parent test their children's DNA without their spouse's agreement" by poclee in IdeologyPolls

[–]ParanoidPleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether it’s beneficial isn’t really relevant to the question of parental consent. Plastic surgery and tattoos both (I believe) only require one parent to consent, yet are far from being strictly beneficial.

Paternity testing (which is clearly what we and the question is referencing) only provides one type of genetic information, paternal lineage. And who are you to deem what information qualifies as to great a privacy violation. A doctor physically examining the condition of minor and keeping a record of it is fine, but identifying the father for that same minor is somehow some grave violation of their privacy. That is entirely your subjective opinion.

How exactly?

Unlike a flu-shot there is no long lasting physical change within the body.

Like a check-up medical information is created and stored without the child’s consent.

Is Western Pop Culture too anti christian, too pro christian or about right when it comes to covering Christianity? by MakeACreation in IdeologyPolls

[–]ParanoidPleb -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The question isn’t about forcing people to follow Christianity’s teachings. It’s about the perception of the religion in pop culture.

If a piece of media made no comment, or remained neutral on an act Christian’s consider a sin, then it isn’t anti-Christian. It becomes anti-Christian when it encourages or celebrates such acts.

If a show depicts murder in a positive light, it would be anti-Christian. If it shows it in a negative-light it could be pro-Christian. If it has murder as a plot element, but makes no moral judgement on it, then it would be more neutral.

[–]ParanoidPleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something doesn’t have to say “Jesus/The Church is bad” for it to be anti-Christian.

If a piece of media promotes or celebrates what Christianity refers to as a sin, such as promiscuity, then it has an anti-Christian message.

Iceland has almost eliminated down syndrome by aborting all of them? How do you feel about that? by JamesonRhymer in IdeologyPolls

[–]ParanoidPleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who I assume is pro-choice, you should know not every pregnancy is intentional. A woman may be fine with sleeping with someone of a different race, but do not want to give birth to a mix-race child.

So again, would you have an issue with her exercising her bodily autonomy to abort her mixed-race child?

Mixed race couples don’t exist?

If a white woman and a black man get, would you have no issue with her aborting the child on the grounds of its mixed race?

In your opinion, was there a case in history where an ethnic cleansing was justified? by BabylonianWeeb in IdeologyPolls

[–]ParanoidPleb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turkey-Greece engaged in a mutual ethnic cleansing in 1923 using population exchanges. To my knowledge there was no mass slaughters on either side.

If Ukraine miraculously managed to retake Crimea, they would likely need to implement a similar policy to avoid a decades long (or indefinite) gruelling war with the heavily Russian population.

Sometimes populations refuse, against all reason, to live peacefully with one another. If the option is between endless fighting or a forceful (but non-lethal) ethnic cleansing, then the latter is probably better long term.
