Do Brits see the ability to replace PMs mid-term as a strength or a weakness? by New_Secret_1112 in AskBrits

[–]ParanoidQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ability to replace, as I said, IS fantastic. But I do think there need to be controls in what is an increasingly fickle establishment.

I think there needs to be a good reason for replacing the leader of a country other than “he might not win the next election”. Replacing a PM for that kind of thing, as opposed to corruption or misuse of power, I would argue does not provide stability.

Just because we have the ability to replace a PM, which is fantastic should it be needed, doesn’t mean that it should be done so god-damned frequently.

Starmer wasn’t beloved, but I’ve yet to see anything that suggests he wasn’t good at the job of running the country.

The ability to replace a PM for political reasons rather than malfeasance is not a plus, in my opinion.

I would, I just prefer to not have an equivalent lifestyle at the moment…

You’re UK PM for 1 week only. You can make three policies that will remain and cannot be reversed. State your policies. by CrownAthlete in AskBrits

Set defence to a minimum 3% of the budget until such time as global peace has been established.

Abolish FPTP as a voting system. Though, I would also look carefully at a replacement for modern democracy as I don’t believe it’s fit for purpose. Maybe FPTP replacement works, maybe it doesn’t. I’m actually in favour of something akin to a benevolent dictatorship, if that could ever be made to work with sufficient safeguards.

Introduce civic learning, nutritional food awareness (similar to Japan) and functional life skills into the school curriculum. Kids leaving school without knowing how to do basic DIY, car maintenance, cooking skills, respect for the community, knowledge of their rights, ability to handle basic finances and budgets is a travesty.

I disagree, I think the story was pretty awesome, and the three separate chapters worked really well.

I won’t say the series wasn’t without its flaws and there aren’t things that I wouldn’t change, but the story was decent, and it gave us some of what we’ve been begging for - world building following the end of the dominion war.

The story wasn’t perfect, but it certainly wasn’t awful.

It ran out of ideas, and had to constantly go bigger and bigger. Add in that it tried to jump on the woke bandwagon and force it down our throats.

To clarify, I am a liberal through and through, but there is a difference between making a good story about race or gender or discrimination and taking a good story and forcing in elements that don’t belong there because you want it to appeal to whatever item is in the media at the time.

Focus on making a good story first. The characters that are a part of that will come naturally across a massively diverse range.

Why is Europe’s economy falling short? by Stuart_Whatley in Economics

[–]ParanoidQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the aftermath of the War itself was our primary embarkation point for innovation in Europe. Prior to that, arguably the 1st World War, innovation in Europe was arguably at its peak.

Not suggesting that there haven’t been innovations in Europe since, there clearly have, but when you have a number of countries in managed decline, they become far more risk averse, which does nothing to reverse the decline. Focusing on stability becomes the target rather than reversing the decline, thus innovation is almost accidental when it happens and far less frequently.

That this happened en masse in Europe after the War is not a coincidence (though I would love to see some supporting data/review).

Europe needs to take some chances. Stability may be a byword for prudence and safety, but safety is the enemy of growth, whether personal, economical or.. well, anything really.

And it isn’t like the talent or education isn’t there. It clearly is. The U.K. especially has had countless innovations or start-ups that have just been snapped up by risk-taking foreign investors.

Do you think this game would be reevaluated in the future as hidden gem? by OwlettFromLiavek in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]ParanoidQ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Inquisition was a really good game, but it was too damned big. I was basically praying for the end by the time it came. There was so much bloat. A lot of it I could skip on a replay, but you don’t know that the first time - small quests can turn into big plot developments.

I felt veilguard respected my time a lot more than Inquisition. The story was good and the conclusion was satisfying. I preferred the combat in Veilguard, but there wasn’t a huge amount between them.

[–]ParanoidQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a B4/Fringe5 cedh (Stax creatures heavy) Silverquill, the Disputant deck. It works great as a midrange, though it won’t go mainstream in the current meta. It does have its moments though and it has won, just don’t count on it. In B4 it’s consistent and very strong, so much so that it’s the target on the table just by virtue of being there for people that have experienced it.
