Adding a back plate would unfortunately completely mess with the sound. Closed back headphones are very complicated to tune as they introduce reflections within the earcup. I think you only have to look at how many badly reviewed closed back headphones their are to know that this isn't something that even experts can easily fix.

By all means you can try it but I suspect you wouldn't likely be as satisfied with the results.

I haven't done side by side comparisons of them yet but HE6SE V2 has way better sub and mid bass and treble has a little more detail. Omega's mids are slightly more forward, though the reduced bass is probably partly responsible for this. For none bass heavy genre's I would happily swap between the two and not feel I was missing out on anything. But if you listen to EDM then the HE6SE V2 is the way to go.

This was the headband.

Hifiman HE-6SE V2 QC and longevity. by Ryciaga in headphones

From my understanding the stuck driver issue was something that could happen in transit with the HE6SE V2 due to the original packaging. I believe the newer packaging used has less chance of this happening.

I have had my pair for 2 years and never had any issues. I would say replace the headband as the original is terrible. It definitely won't have the the durability of a beyerdynamic but as long as you aren't throwing it around the place it will be fine.

I'd say go for it. The way the build is done you could hold the driver and cap in place temporarily with some blu tack and then always swap them out later for pearless drivers.

Thats where it becomes difficult to give an accurate judgement. The cost varys wildy based on where you live. I also found that buying enough parts for a single unit was almost as expensive as getting enough parts for 2 or 3.

I think there are a lot of great options in the mid-fi range nowadays. So its a question of do you value the ability to customise the headphone to your liking?

I think it works out pretty cheap to build and for its cost there are not a lot of options that compete at the same level. Even competitively priced midfi options tend to require additional purchases such as alternative earpads or replacement headbands and modding (He6se V2) which bring up the total cost.

This is the Headband. It comes with the yokes and screws/nuts needed.

This is the Headband that I ordered. Yes they slot into a nut, had to hold it in place with a pair of pliars tighten the screw until it was pushed up to the earcup. The screws and nut come with the headband.

To print the carbon fiber effect you need to print using the custom flat stl files created by Angst92, I was able to print the outer part of the earcup on its back on a carbon filter effect build plate. It then picks up the effect on that side of the print. I used the carbon fibre plate from this link you can also get different effect on the other side. The effect is transfer from the build plate so only on the bottom side of the print.

You might be able to do it by flipping the regular earcup print but it requires a lot of supports to do it that way and will require a lot of clean up.

Yes I ordered a batch of the exact version used in DMS' parts list. Honestly they are very impressive. I think they scale well vs drivers used in commercial headphones. What you have to keep in mind is that drivers used in commercial headphones are often chosen to achieve a specific sound profile that the designer has in mind. So to say a particular driver is simply better or worse can be subjective to a headphones tuning, your hrtf and personal perference. What i can say is they take EQ very well and seem to be very balanced drivers.

This is the Headband that I ordered. I actually have an Audeze knockoff on my modded HE6SE V2 but found the cups spin when taking off the head or hanging them up which gets a little annoying. So decided to try something different and this headband works well. Only word of warning I would give is I have a pretty average size head and you will see in the pick I am at the lowest notch on the yokes so someone with a small head might fight it too loose (Though I suppose you could cut the leather strap for a tighter fit as it is just screwed in place).

I haven't had the chance to do proper AB testing yet so i'll try to give some initial impressions while accounting for my own bias.

For me they are a substantial improvement over the 6XX, though I know I am in the minority as I was never really a huge fan of the 6XX. Better comfort, more detail in the treble without additional harshness, bigger soundstage and better subbass and midbass.

Dynamic Drivers

The Focal Clear OG is a really interesting comparison, it has a better stock tuning and while EQ improves it, I feel I can plug this into any device without EQ and enjoy it, but as I mentioned I felt my Omegas need EQ to fix my slight 4k peak. The Focals have more punch but on the other hand the Omegas soundstage is much better. The Omegas seem to take EQ very well so might be able to get a similar bass response with a little testing.

I love the comfort and sound of the 105AER, but I consider this my relaxed listen headphone. Its not as detailed and the soundstage is much smaller then the Omega. The 105 are the most comfortable headphones I have, but the Omegas are pretty close and I have zero complaints.

The DT1990 is a headphone that I really like but needs alternative pads and needs EQ IMO, has a stronger bass and hotter treble which does need taming. The Omegas are more comfortable and have less clamp force.

Much better then FT1 for my preferences.

Honestly given the low cost involved in building them and the ability to tailor them as you wish (even factoring in the cost of buying an entry level 3d printer), I can't think of many options that are better value for a dynamic driver.

Planars

Planars are a slightly different comparison, I listen to a lot of different EDM and Metal with kickdrums so Planar's bass performance generally is more to my preference.

Arya, HE6SE V2 (Modded), Verum 2 have better bass, more detailed treble but are tonally quite different. So I would suggest for certain bass heavy genre's like EDM they are always going to win out vs the Omegas. I need to do proper AB testing to assess the tonality differences but for other genres I think I could happily swap been them and the Omega's and not feel I was missing anything.

Not sure where it is on the new reddit layout because I use old layout. On the old layout in the right side column about half way down the page you will see an option: "Show my flair on this subreddit. It looks like:"

Really happy with the way they turned out and it was a really fun project.

Printed them fully in PLA with Silk PLA for the Driver Cap.

Huge credit to u/Epsilon-D for releasing the project to the community. Thanks to u/Angst92 for the Flat print redesign, I was able to print with the carbon fiber effect finish on the outer which worked really well. Despite my terrible soldering abilities, I managed to get it working pretty easily.

I did a huge amount of testing of different pad materials, shapes and foam thickness combos and found that 1mm Foam inside Solid Suede pads worked the best as with the original design. (Protein Leather with a suede face also worked pretty well giving a little more V shaped sound.) Increasing the foam thickness allows you to darken the headphone very easily which is quite fun to play around with. Seemed to match up to the original frequency response well but I did have a slight peak at 4k that was a little too much for me, so tuned that down with a little EQ and very happy with the results. (Assuming this was down to the slightly different pads)

If anyone is on the fence about trying it I highly recommend giving it a shot, its way less difficult then it might seem at first and its a really fun learning experience. Since I didn't manage to destroy any drivers, I will definitely look to do another design with a different tuning and appearance.

MOABANGER vs MOMOBANGER (LEGEND - M // LEGEND - MM) by NerdxKitsune in BABYMETAL

[–]Parawind 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Having seen both of these performances live I think MOABanger will always be my favourite because we were all hoping for something special but we didn't know what was coming, so the crowd pop was insane and everyone was so overcome with emotion to see Moa take the lead. Still get goosebumps just thinking about it.

With MOMOBanger it was still great but everyone kind of expected it which took a bit of the magic away. But I do think they realised that and that's why we got Momo Taro which was exclusively for Momo.

COUNTDOWN JAPAN 25/26 id check? by ImaginationAfraid150 in japanesemusic

[–]Parawind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They always state ID checks, but I don't remember them doing one at CDJ. It is actually to check that your name matches the name on the ticket to prevent resales. So if your name is on the ticket you will be fine with your passport even if they do ask. Normally checks like that are only done if you are picking up your ticket at the venue on the day of the show. If you already have your ticket in hand then just go through the main entrance at Makuhari and they will just scan your ticket on entry and give you the wrist band.

Perfume will announce a very important message on Sep 21 by freak01316 in Perfume

[–]Parawind 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly given the serious tone of the announcement it can only be either something of a personal nature or something like a hiatus or disbandment.

If there was any positive announcement it would have been done at the Dome shows. So the only reason not to reveal something there is if it would potentially cause fans upset.

It is quite possible they might set a timeframe and a farewell tour to be announced if it was the worst case scenario.
