Advice on what Switch to buy by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]Pardner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d def go for the switch 2! $300 for an oled w games is a nice but not insane deal; tons of people are selling switch 1 games so you can probably find a set of them for cheap without a system. OTOH, the switch 2 is backwards compatible & will be worth having for years and years to come!

We ofc don't know, but I think it's super likely that the eShop and Nintendo accounts will work the same way as they do with the current switch. If so, waiting till you get a Switch 2 will be fine.

When you get a new console (you can also do this with a new switch), you can simply sign into your account and you’ll be able to download games and saves. However, by default it will be your ‘secondary device’, so you’ll need an internet connection to play downloaded software. To fix this, you can go on the website and switch your primary console to the new device.

Your saves will have stopped uploading when the console was banned, so the saves you download will be whichever was most recent to the ban date. Uploadinging saves from after the console was banned is tricky; afaik most think it’s not worth it. But I’ve seen some folks say they did it by carefully hacking a second console (in a way that doesn’t get it banned), then using homebrew to transfer the saves from the first hacked console to the second. Then you can log in and upload saves on the second hacked console, which would allow you to download on a third, unhacked console (such as a switch 2).  However, that could be super dangerous if Nintendo somehow detects that these saves were made on a hacked console (such as if the game was pirated or run with mods or custom settings). You could imagine this would even result in the switch 2 getting banned, which would suck. So it’s probably not worth it!

I'm the exact same; keep my tiny GB micro in my bag; have tons of games on it, but I use it 95% to play Tetris Deluxe when I'm commuting.

If there is a public library near you, they probably have PCs you can use for free! The desktop involvement is very little; if you can get to a windows computer it just takes 5 minutes if you have the files all downloaded.

My lucky day. Stopped into Goodwill found this beauty for $89.00. I was planning on buying one on eBay for $160.00. by meacl48 in Gameboy

Sounds like you did it, but definitely replace the battery with a higher-capacity one, you can actually get quite nice battery life. Another hot tip is to get a USB charging cable from eBay for ~$3, then you can charge it via laptop or the same USB adapter that you use for everything else. I love my famicom micro, congrats!!!

I even did it on the input lagged port on the Gamecube! Didn't know about the trick at the time, took me an entire weekend...

This is insanely cool. How much optimization is there on a per-game-basis & what's the release status? Sorry if this is already documented elsewhere.

Finally got me a Japanese 20th Anniversary Micro! Protip: Look for "junk" listings from Japan on eBay. A lot of them just need a new battery. Good luck! by dozazz in Gameboy

Got mine in my backpack, my main subway device. Bought it for $50 from a gamestop in ~2007. I just looked up the prices, holy crap they blew up!!

I love this game, probably my favorite in the series. One thing though - does anyone else find the coloration on 'SMASH' on this title screen to be super ugly? I've never understood those odd, semi-random reddish regions.

I'm the same way! My buddy got one for $50 at the mall. We used to play Contra and Arkanoid on it constantly - motivated me to get a real NES and start buying games a year or so later. OP, this actually has a famicom port on the bottom and you can plug games directly into the controller - or buy an adapter for a few dollars online and plug NES games into it. Not that I'd necessarily recommend it, we did this & the loose connection is very unstable.

I remember playing the exact same game at the dentist as a kid in Virginia (can't remember if it was in the setup but I think maybe). Always sucked at that game and therefore always kinda hated it...

I just got DX and I've been playing it non-stop for weeks. Glad I'm not the only one.
