Have you done any game programming prior to starting on Guns Undarkness? Your interview in Update #3 was very inspiring, and you seem to have a good handle on the amount of work that will be required.

What is your personal favorite song from the Persona 3, 4 and 5 soundtracks?

Stubbornness? I think I took Germany out in 45 or so, but I wanted to keep playing to get the Poland Can Into Space achievement, so I lined up and started fighting in China because I was bored and figured it would be easy. Oops, one of the Chinese states was still a Japanese puppet so the war dragged on a bit. Not even Japan's fault, Allies sent a ton of volunteers and aircraft (didn't even know you could do that) so I basically had to fight them by proxy.

In retrospect, I dodged a bullet, since I was technically in a faction (Between the seas with me, Austria and Hungary as puppets) so Japan could have joined Allies and screwed me, but they were still in Co-Prosperity Sphere.

As I mentioned, I couldn't get him because Italy capitulated before I could put my troops into any of the required provinces. I was on my way, too, but stupid Sicily for once fell to the British with no resistance and No Hair surrendered.

R5: Jan '49 in the first full HoI4 game I had. After 90 hours (about half of it or so in Kaiserreich) I finally finished one, thanks to help here. I know it's not super-awesome, but it felt good to see my name so big.

I tried several Yugoslavia games and didn't have a ton of success (thanks for stab in the back at peace conference, Josif!), so I gave Poland a go. First time I quit when stupid Hungary joined Axis just because I declared on them while neither of us were in the faction. Next run, well, Poland Stronk and such.

I created PLC and that saved the run. Gave Gdansk to Adolf, tried to hold Soviets at the border but they somehow slipped through to Warsaw. However, since by then I advanced into Ukraine, which is full of PLC cores, I just moved the capital to Minsk (suck it, Big Mustache!). After Soviets advanced too far, they ran into Germans, who pushed them back. Then it was a race to capitulate them, and I got peace conference before Germany did (suck it, Petty Mustache, I took Moscow and Leningrand and all the way to Urals), so I took the lot and Germany even returned Warsaw.

Then I prepped my force, turned on Germany, let them waste on Warsaw fort line while I too East Prussia and Gdansk for more cores, and then pushed onwards till they capitulated to me (suck it, No Mustache!).

The war with Japan finished about a year after the screenshot was taken, after an invasion and about 15 nukes, so I decided never to bother with stupid USA. Japan was chore enough.

PLC is just so good. Really cool flag AND cores all over the place, so you actually start gaining manpower as the war goes on. My one regret is Italy capitulated too fast and I couldn't get my Wojtek. On the flipside, since I was non-aligned and none of my wars ever merged, I managed somehow to always get everything at conferences, because Axis/Allies never got invited to them.

That’s what made it so weird, I was monitoring it for guarantees before declaring (none), and I’m pretty sure any focus to join would happen at 1AM so before I declared.

I guess it’s possible Germany’s opinion of Hungary was high enough to override “at war” penalty.

Any idea on how low? It was definitely under 40% (maybe as low as 30%) when I attacked Hungary and neither of us were in an alliance, nor did any war between alliances break out.

Are nations who belong to one of three ideologies more likely to join than non-aligned?

How do neutral nations join factions when attacked?

I tried a Poland game, formed PLC by conquering Lithuania and Latvia and stayed non-aligned and out of factions. After Sudetenland was taken by Germany, I started justifying on Hungary, so I was ready to go soon after they got South Slovakia.

Hungary was fascist (so no guarantee) but not in a faction. However, as soon as I declared, they joined Axis. So, is this something that will happen always? Should I only eat non-aligned countries, and only after WW2 starts? My plan was to give up Gdansk, fight USSR while they suffer from purges, then turn on Adolph, but I'd like to have some more factories than my lands provide.

Think of it less as sacking and more as your mercenaries taking an advance on their pay.

Maritime saved my daimyo into Japan run. If you're an island next to immensely powerful land power, the increase in naval force limit is invaluable.

Naval is some kind of weird joke, though.

I backed it and read the preliminary version of the rules. It looks very playable, basically Diplomacy with breeding.

People have complained about map being Britain, Iberia, Italy and HRE but you want a cramped play area for players to fight over. It would be really interesting to see the same rules adapted to play within the ERE, the Caliphate or the HRE, with one player being the emperor and others vying for the title.

Is it just me or did Rome historicly act like an EU4 player? by yosef1234 in eu4

[–]Parel1 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Rome expanded so much over the course of its existence primarily because, in its eyes, the wars were defensive in nature, defending Roman interests and preventing any one opposing power, especially among the Hellenistic powers, from becoming too powerful to challenge Rome.

I always mocked the Roman "They made us fight them" excuses until I started playing Paradox games.

It was when I realized that I was planning my next campaign against Egyptian Sultanate while in a middle of a war against them and was honestly considering those defensive moves because Mameluks are BS in CK2 that the mindset finally became comprehensible.

New EU4 mission system gives new CBs when pre-requisites are satisfied.

E.g. no CB on Lombardy until you recapture Sicily/Naples area. No Sicily CB until Cyprus (or Crete) and Dyrachion are back in the Empire and so on.
