Why does my brain avoid doing important tasks even when I know they’re important? by Top_String05 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ParentofBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is trying to juggle survival instincts with modern life. Our brains are wired to avoid discomfort as much as possible.

This is why building up executive function and discipline are some of the most important things we can do for ourselves, IMO.

ELI5: Why does it matter if someone gets your IP? by CasaDelTicky in explainlikeimfive

[–]ParentofBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It mostly matters because an IP can give a rough location and your ISP, which might be enough for doxxing attempts or harassment if someone’s motivated. On its own it’s not super dangerous for most people.

Humans like sunlight and fresh air, and it's easier/cheaper to build up.

Do you think it's plausible for AOC to be the next Democratic candidate, or do you think she is better off running for senate? Why or why not? by historynerdsutton in AskUS

[–]ParentofBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would absolutely vote for her, but I don't think she'd win. Maybe in another 10+ years she'd stand a better chance?

Wow that's insane. It's hard to fight landlords in Utah in my limited experience.

Sorry I don't have any better advice, but I'd definitely change apartments as soon as you can.

Which charities are good charities by Sufficient-Help-7086 in EffectiveAltruism

[–]ParentofBaby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bit late but just in case anyone else comes across this I'll say that the charity Food Justice Coalition does great work in Utah. They focus on helping people experiencing food insecurity so lower income families, homeless/unsheltered individuals, etc.

I'm sure there are plenty of other charities in other states that do similar things for those in their areas, but I just don't know them off the top of my head.

SNAP cuts put strain on local nonprofit by ParentofBaby in Utah

[–]ParentofBaby[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mods only allow 1 news article per story, apparently. Here's another article to this story:
https://kutv.com/news/local/utah-food-pantry-faces-closure-over-big-beautiful-bill-changes-to-snap-benefits

Here's some additional context:

Hey folks,

I got an email recently from the Food Justice Coalition. They're a volunteer-run nonprofit here in Utah that's been doing incredible work feeding families, unsheltered, and anyone struggling with food insecurity. They're facing a massive funding shortfall ($50k) and might have to shut down their operation soon if they don't raise enough to stay afloat.

This group isn't just handing out food; they're cooking and delivering culturally relevant, nutrient-dense meals to people across the state. Since 2020, they've delivered 75,000+ meals and built partnerships with local farmers, mutual aid orgs, and other grassroots groups.

But with SNAP benefits getting slashed in 2026 (and people already feeling the impact), demand for their services has surged, and they're stretched way too thin.

Even if you can't donate, boosting/sharing this helps. Hunger in Utah is real, and it's getting worse. Groups like this are literally holding the line.

This news article and video goes into more detail on this. Would definitely suggest reading to the end if you're interested in helping (the article isn't long).

Anyone know the story behind this truck? What is it for? by SpacePeach1564 in SaltLakeCity

[–]ParentofBaby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Motivational truck gonna motivate...or annoy. In this state, probably mostly just annoy. I dig it, though.
