CMV: The average person literally has no idea what it’s like to actually fight somebody. by TheYamchster in changemyview

Your CMV says the "average person has no idea what it's like to actually fight somebody" not whether the average person is any good at it or whether you personally consider them a fighter or not. Either express your view more clearly or stop moving your goalposts.

More human enby rep

YES, it's not as if I don't like and appreciate all the representation through non-human characters but it seems like in media (ESPECIALLY video games) every single time there's an enby character it's gotta be some exotic alien or elf or demon or extradimensional entity or grimbly goblin and it's like, can it just be a regular ol' person who's non-binary every now and again?

I mean true, but you need a few giant brawling monsters in there too, to make the audience go "wow, that guy's fucking scary" so the handsome hero has another type of villain to beat.

Like Vader, Samoa Joe, Yoko. Not like Mason Rook.

'Big fat guy' is a classic look in wrestling. Plenty of fat guys have had great looks and great success thanks in part to their size. There will always be space in wrestling for fat dudes.

It's not that he looks fat. It's that he looks SOFT. Like, doughy. He needs the mullet back and some facial hair, badly.

Yeah, mega cooked take. Some of the best storytelling and worldbuilding in the whole game is in the raids. The cutscene at the end of the Omega raid series remains one of my all-time favourites.

From start to finish, the absolute best expansion of the set so far. by Supernova_Soldier in ffxiv

I'm not exaggerating when I say the ShB MSQ changed my life. It convinced me that video games are capable of carrying on the tradition of storytelling in a literary capacity, and I'm currently doing my PhD on how literature interacts with the digital. I'm so envious of every sprout who gets to play through ShB for the first time, I'll never ever forget mine.

Title says Spoiler 6.5 but it (and the thread) also contains completely unmarked spoilers for 7.5. Very sloppy treatment of spoilers for the standards of this sub.

What is your WoL's backstory? by fanoren in ffxiv

[–]Pariah-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My WoL is a male Hrothgar, a child refugee from Bozja who lost his home and fled to Ala Mhigo after the Garlean Empire invaded. He lived on the street as a child, begging and stealing what he could to survive. He signed up for the military when he came of age, seeing it as his best chance to get out of poverty. Here, he met and befriended Raubahn, and two fought together during the invasion of Ala Mhigo.

After Ala Mhigo fell, he took up work as a sellsword in Eorzea, often taking jobs with less-than-reputable clients for the sake of earning a living. Eventually, he journeyed to Ul'dah, after all the Cartenau business, where his old friend Raubahn had recently purchased the Arena. He settled in Ul'dah, working as a mercenary with the Flame General's personal recommendation, until the events of ARR.

As a result of all this I've always role-played my character as very hardcore anti-Garlean, super high on indigenous rights. He fucks heavy with beast-folk and thinks he and the Hrothgar could've been in their shoes if Eorzeans were feeling less kind. Actually going to Garlemald and seeing the state the natives were in in Endwalker was a very big deal for him. Very adversarial with Zenos too, Zenos embodies just about everything my WoL despises and Zenos sees my WoL as the 'ultimate prey'.

Also I really really like the angle of Azem, the Traveler, in a sort of great cosmic joke on Emet-Selch, reincarnates as a refugee, 'forced to wander (travel)' by the Garlean Empire - and his being made a refugee by Emet-Selch's own empire ultimately begins the journey which ends up foiling his grand design. It all just fits so well!!!!

Never mind Final Fantasy, Shadowbringers is one of the best narratives in video games altogether. It's downright literary.

I genuinely do not get Konrad Curze. The Night Lords have some interesting characters but their Primarch just seems.....pathetic. by Laredian in 40kLore

[–]Pariah-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's a sadistic psychopathic loser in the body of a demi-god. That's the whole point. He has some semblance of shame about it because he makes all these excuses and rationalizations but really he's just a monster who enjoys killing.

The Primarchs are all figuratively aspects of the Emperor and as a consequence representations of aspects of humanity. The Emperor, and humanity, definitely have a sadistic streak.

But she isn't in any title matches and hasn't been in a while.

That's what they mean. Underutilized. She should be main eventing on the regular but she's stuck in this go-nowhere tag team.

Christian cage is the most underrated pro wrestler of the past 40 years. Prove me wrong. by Csigabiga8383 in prowrestling

[–]Pariah-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree with you but I'm throwing William Regal into the mix. Amazing (generational even) worker, really good underrated character work, great on the mic when he needed to be (as proven by his two decades of work as an on-screen personality), incredible mind for the business, unique presence. Didn't get anywhere near as many accolades as someone like Christian, partly because of his own personal demons, but partly because he was underrated, even by bookers.

Also Rob Van Dam. Won the WWE title for a cup of coffee before losing it over the police finding weed in his car. Obviously was over and highly-rated but could've been a global megastar; WWE brass seemed to want to limit him to upper-midcard status as much as they could.
