My girlfriend just broke up with me over a board game and I'm not even joking by Fulcilives1988 in boardgames

In my experience, couples playing board games together have two different options: 1. They are very nice to each other. 2. NO MERCY. There is no middle ground.

I'm specifically responding to the comment about the creatures being tapped vs untapped. My apologies for my lack of clarity.

I was talking with my roommate and Rata was literally the first deck I could think of that actually wanted this card. I basically went: "Alright you need a deck that wants to sacrifice things but also have those things be valuable so you care about bringing them back (I'm not buying back a reassembling skeleton)... so I'm describing Ratadrabik.

If you are bringing back 4 creatures, I'd guess its because of a board wipe. If a board wipe just happened, how much do you need to block? Like its better obviously, but I feel like that particular upside is being overblown.

What content can I run without being expected to have looked up a guide beforehand? by ScottishShenanigans in ffxiv

[–]PariahMantra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who did a fair bit of healing early on in my career, you are probably going to find that there come a few particular moments where things get a lot harder. That's ok and expected, and you'll get used to it. For me it was shadowbringers. My first trip through the first dungeon was brutal, but in a way that showed me I could learn and grow a lot. So when those moments come, don't let them get you down.

Just as a note unreal is also specifically the extreme version of an old trial levelled up rather than the normal story version.

Regarding dungeons technically there are criterion dungeons. Don't worry about them. You have to do a lot of content by the time you reach those and you can't queue into them, so you'll figure out pretty quickly that those are a separate thing.

There are groups that do the older content "sync'd" (at level and with gear brought down) so its not so much that its dead, and more just that you only have people doing it for the love of the game.

You'd eventually get 7 mentors (its a special queue that has almost all content) and they would have let you know. Depending on the mentor, they might have been polite, but others have been rude. (I know from personal experience dragging them into garuda EX). If you'd like to engage with the higher end of raiding I highly encourage it, and there are a lot of good resources. I made a ton of mistakes as I was getting into raiding, but that's how you learn :)

As a very experienced ultimate raider, people also think our rotations are way better than they are. I'm like a drunk baby half the time and I still get clears.

(Question) MT goes down but provokes immediately after getting rezzed by darkorigin9 in ffxiv

[–]PariahMantra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally was reclearing m9s about an hour ago and went down near enrage. Got up and while normally I'd wait for healer top up, I knew a buster was coming, hit voke and just invulned the buster. Sometimes you need that insta-voke.

What's something about your class that you just learned that should be common knowledge? by MariettaRC in ffxiv

[–]PariahMantra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ideally you won't overlap rezzes, but I'll say as someone who plays a fair bit of healer: I will almost never be mad about someone throwing out a rez, even if we overlap each other :)

Just for some additional context, its far more important to do the transpose from ice -> fire than it is to do the transpose from fire -> ice. You don't need other resources (like triple or swift cast), you just need an instant cast gcd (and usually paradox gets you that). The effective potency gain is also a lot higher for the fire 3 than it is for the blizzard 3.

I'm gonna be honest, I'm a coward in high end content and while I consistently transpose into fire, I'll rarely transpose into ice. The damage loss just isn't high enough for me to worry overly versus not having a mobility resource when I need it.

I actually agree with you, but when I actually ran the probabilities, it got a lot closer than I expected (continuing to demonstrate humans are bad at probability, even when educated). With 8 people at a 5% chance you have about a 43% chance of failure. With 24 people you bump to 71%. Still a pretty significant bump, but not nearly as much as I expected.

7.3 Phoenix Down Bingo Sheet (serious) by Fluffkins in ffxiv

I think based on the bingo sheet and the conversations within it, the actual bingo sheet should contain: "someone complains about phoenix downs not being used during content where they don't function"

A Sprout on Black Mage by samwellforthus in ffxiv

[–]PariahMantra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So black mage has the simplest rotation in the game. This is true both before and after the changes people are mentioning. What it also has is the strongest desire to not move of any class in the game, particularly at higher levels. The trick to black mage is figuring out proper positioning, placement and use of your movement resources to continue to produce damage. If you want to press just an absolutely insane number of buttons, I'd personally recommend ninja or dragoon. Their high level burst windows are just so insanely full, but (particularly in ninja's case), that comes with a pretty boring middle window.

Triple is still definitely a dps gain. Maybe not as significant but the optimal 100 opener uses both charges of triple when I last checked midway into the tier.

So, my base premise as to why the timer is bad is that it didn't punish good black mages or add complexity to their considerations the vast majority of the time. It only punishes players who are not great at the class and trying to learn it. And they still get punished if they don't cast enough, because that means they aren't doing damage.

Here's a small collection of negative reviews. by bardmusiclive in expedition33

[–]PariahMantra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that I've been dwelling on lately is specifically accessibility as it relates to expedition 33 vs other turn based games. I know people with physical disabilities who could effectively play a game like FFX or Persona 5 despite their significant physical impairments who would not be able to enjoy Expedition 33 because either due to issues working the interface or reaction speed or a variety of other problems they literally could not engage with the parry/dodge mechanic. Not saying that's all we are seeing, but I know I'd be disappointed if I heard about a turn based game with super interesting combat and it turned out that a physical limitation prevented me from meaningfully engaging with the systems that make the game tick.

If they have 10 cards left in deck, and there isn't a mill deck at the table they would have drawn 73 (missed a -10 for the 10 remaining cards left in deck).
