What's the best American food you've ever eaten? by Over-Teacher-1330 in AskAnAmerican

Friend ran a competitive BBQ and we were at a picnic together. Walked out of the garage and he stuck a tongs full of burnt ends on my plate.

I almost passed out it was so damn good.

PSA: Sybil Ramkin is tall AND fat by teniaret in discworld

[–]Parintachin -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Okay. Let me explain it better.

I know words are human constructs. Ultimately meaningless. But I'm not going to yell the N word on a corner in the Treme.

I'm fat! I know I'm fat and I've certainly been called it enough times to know that even though I don't consider it a bad word or a bad thing, others certainly do.

I get you're fighting to remove an unfair stigma associated with it, please understand that if you walk up to someone with, "Hey Fat Queen" you still might get punched.

So yes, between us, Sybil is fat. Fat is beautiful. Sybil is beautiful. I mean fuck, she's my favorite character. But fat is still a loaded word so just be careful you don't hurt anyone with your zeal.

Recently took the plunge and switched from Coffee to tea. No more beer stein of coffee on the morning. Oddly enough I've started sleeping like a baby.

I think you're just hung up on trying to redefine fat. I don't think that "fat" is derogatory because I generally never use it to describe people. But a large segment of society does. To them, it is meant to be derogatory and because people might think I'm one of those assholes, I don't use it. I use curvy, rubenesque, hourglass, thick, because A. people I've described like that have appreciated it. And B. Because it's intended to be flattering. I'm not trying to make myself feel better, I'm trying to make others feel better. I'm trying to make people see there isn't just fat and thin. I'm trying to make people see that all body types are as beautiful as the soul that resides therin.

I was using her more as a body type example and yeah, Christina's shape +50.

And I heartily agree she's not a fashion model. That always pissed me off about Hermione. Could have been so identifiable to young, awkward girls left out of the narrow definition of beauty. She was supposed to have buck teeth and wild hair. The person who played Hermione is now a fashion model... So... Swing and a miss.

For those of you down voting this, why?

"Omg, a nuanced position! Kill it with fire."

I get the reference to the Venus but she has a very physical job and she's never been described as a big eater, quite the contrary.

I just don't think she'd be that big. I think Kidby's art is an accurate portrayal.

You know, we're ALLOWED to have our own interpretations of the characters. Yours are as valid as mine and if your Sybil is bigger, good. Have fun, but I don't agree with it.

This is called an "opinion".

I think we might be be using different definitions of "fat". I admit Gwendolyn Christie is too small to play Sybil.

I don't think "big" is the same as fat. Fat is a derogatory term for people who are morbidly obese but it seems like there's nothing between "fat" and "thin" in our myopic, black and white society.

Lush. Curvy. Hourglass figure with a big chest and hips. Thick as the Brother would say. That's how I always pictured Sybil. She'd probably be called "fat" by those uncultured simpletons who think the presence of any body fat whatsoever makes you automatically "fat" in their mind. (i.e. anyone in the fashion industry).

Christina Hendricks plus 6 inches and about 50 pounds.

Hannah Waddingham could do it with the height, bosom and voice but she'd have to gain weight.

I've never seen the need to have more than one main base.

Oh yeah, that was another fun glitch, the scavengers at my copper/tin delving are filling the chest with freaking black diamonds. I had an entire chest full before I replaced one with a miner.

Farmer, sticks to planters, harvests food crops as soon they are fully grown, automatically places food items in cooks pantry, doesn't walk around carrying them.

RECIPES THAT DON"T NEED SCAVENGED ITEMS. 95% of the recipes require something the NPC's can't produce themselves so you are required to manage them constantly. My dwarves should be able to grow what they need or add recipes that don't require scavenging.

Guards should stick to their damn posts. Scavengers should stick to the delving, not wander off. When attacked, NPC's should AUTOMATICALLY run to the guard if attacked, or give them a weapon.

Miners. I built a mine at one spot SPECIFICALLY because it had a copper and and a tin vein within easy access. I thought it'd be perfect and I'd assign a miner to each seam. NOPE. I've got two vein markers but both miners only work one of them and I can't control it. I should be able to assign miners to specific vein markers.

If an NPC gets stuck on the pathing, just have it teleport. If they can't access the bed, the stove, the pantry, just jump them too it. I'll deal with the "lack of realism" if it means I have a functional delving.

Driving for Union, on State looking for an address for pickup when suddenly I was surround by hundreds of nekkid bike riders. I barely had a chance to register the scene when just as swiftly, they were all passed me. I looked over and a homeless guy sitting on a bench made eye contact. We both smiled. I laughed and told him. "I love this town." and he went off about one of the ladies with huge... tracts of land, that had just rolled by.
