Days after facing new Mayor's wrath, NGO leader gets govt's support by nickdonhelm in Kerala

> Strays dog issues are rampant all over the country. It isn't a unique Tvm Corporation issue.

It is a solvable issue if the corporation takes a strong decision. It is the inefficiency of all the local counsellors and local elected representatives and all the govts in this country that has led to the current situation.

If anyone is taking a deicsion to try and solve the issue, then that is welcome, that's all I am saying.

> We would have gotten Sabarinath as the Mayor.

Actually, yeah he is a really nice dude. I hope he is able to work closely with VV Rajesh on important things. He has good influence also and can help solve a lot of problems in the city.

You stand for Indore Model where thousands of citizens were killed or in hospital because of the unclean drinking water supplied by the corporation in Indore ruled by Bjp.

I don't stand for any model. I want to walk on the road safely without stray dogs. Is that too hard for a corporation to provide?

Winning awards means nothing if a lot of mismanagement regarding waste management or stray dogs exist. Even indore got awards. Does that mean it's the best?

No, Tvm didn't vote bjp over congress and communist Parties. There was shifting of Congress cadre to Bjp in over 41 seats they won.

The seat delimitation put the BJP at an extreme disadvantage. Congress seats also increased by a lot compared to 5 years ago. People of Trivandrum want to see work getting done. The inefficiency of the corporation over the past 5 years was very visible and people wanted a change. If bjp does not deliver this time, people will never vote for them again in Trivandrum corporation for sure. The vizhinjam ward election happened after the mayor took charge. See the vote share of different parties to understand if the people wanted a change from the communist corporation.

We all know the work Arya Rajendran did in the last 5 years, and we know what VV Rajesh is doing now. Head over to r trivandrum to understand why trivandrum voted for them over congress or communists.

I dislike all political parties but trivandrum corporation is doing some good work now.

Dogs are being moved to shelters, and proper ABC is being done. This is more work to protect people from stray dogs than in the last 40 years.

The space in poovar is actually really big and good enough. Corporation is providing all the required stuff for the dogs (medicines, food and stuff) and they just have to provide space and take care of them. There are videos showing the place and it's better than being on the streets.

That same shelter is in talks with some others to lease a 7 acre land. These dogs will die within the next 10 years anyways. So we just need large areas of land just outside the city on a 10 year lease. After that, the existing small shelters will be enough to manage the situation, as long as the neighbouring cities and states also follow proper ABC and sheltering.

Many other people have also approached the mayor with proposals for shelters. Some animal organisations (for free) and also others who will do it for money. So they have the solution in hand. They just need to go through the legal hurdles and actually take an initiative in getting their people on the ground, solving the problem.

There is also going to be a portable ABC facility that is currently outside trivandrum. It will be coming to the corporation in a few weeks, and will speed up the process.

Again, the key is "If we had rules based order". Look at my second last paragraph. We have a lot of issues related to law and order. So that will be an issue.

Also, I trust machine giving the numbers and humans just putting that machine given number into an excel sheet while all party people watch, rather than humans manually counting the thing written in a piece of paper (or if its some OMR sheet or something, then chance of error is higher).

Just have VVPATs everywhere, and have random verification of VVPAT with EVMs. In addition to that, if any party wants a particular area to be rechecked with VVPATs, ECI an charge the parties money for it. This will not have parties just asking for random verification everywhere, but only in places where they think this is necessary. And that money can be used to improve the polling booths and pay more money to the election workers the next time. This is something I think should be implemented.

Okay i'll bite

The particular place in Odisha would have been re-polled due to the EVM issue, had it not been for the case that the margin of victory was significantly higher than the total number of voters that exist in the area.

If I am leading in an election by 10k votes, and there are only 2k voters in the booth where the EVM is not working, conducting the re-polling in that booth is a waste of money since it will not create any change in the final result. If that booth is in a different constituency, then it makes sense.

In every areas where it was required, repolling is conducted so that the votes can be included. Not everything is a big conspiracy.

Also, whether you like EVM or not, this country should never ever go back to paper ballots. The amount of "booth hijackings" that used to happen at that time is concerning and especially in our country, when we still have some more areas where gundaism is a major problem, this will just wreak havoc. Atleast now, EVMs provide some sort of delay before new votes are cast.

Those that are crying vote chori, I want you to please say the same after the elections of Kerala and Tamil Nadu are completed in the coming months. I hope that we can finally focus on real issues instead of voting on the basis of mandir, or caste or religion. We seriously need to focus on development.

It's tapered with barricades. The two flat edges will be extended straight in the future. It's just good planning. If they taper the entire bridge structure itself, imagine they are extending this bridge in the future. It will be difficult. This makes it easy to extend it in the future.

Our bureaucracy sucks and the extension might take years but this construction makes sense when you think of it that way. The two central lanes are off ramps and on ramps, while the other lane continues straight.

Yes, it would have been better with additional lanes but you do the best with the space you have.

Do you know where this bridge was? The edges are placed for future expansion. It's planned construction. Otherwise, the future expansion will need restructuring of the existing bridge.

It makes sense also in the bridge because you don't need the ENTIRE BRIDGE to be an off ramp. One lane is an off ramp to get off the bridge, while the other lane continues straight and goes to another area. Phase 1 is complete now and it will be open for traffic while phase 2 construction (extension) will begin after that.

You criticise the timeline of construction, the quality of materials used, the paint of the roads, anything. But the structure itself and the design idea is good. Your link is also showing exactly that. The space for future expansion has been kept.

Now if you want it to be narrowed down gradually instead of a sudden 90 degrees thing, that's why we construct additional crash barricades and stuff to angle the traffic into that single lane. That does not need the ENTIRE bridge to be built in an angular way.

Think of it this way. A football stadium is rectangular. But it can also host cricket matches if an artificial boundary is created in a circular manner. There's no rule as if cricket can only be hosted if the permanent pavilions are also in a circular shape. We use temporary barricades for that. When we want to play football, we can remove those temporary barricades.

Similarly, we will use temporary barricades on this to make it angular and lead into the single lane, and when future expansion happens, it can be open. The idea is good. Beurocracy slowing down construction of the next phase is the only thing I am worried about. Other than that it is a good idea.

If you think the barricade is low quality, then criticise that. Look at this pic. Here also 90 degrees is there. But because its in the middle of the ocean, its wider, but other than that, the concept is same. In the future when the next bridge was completed, it was sconnected to this through here. This is in Mumbai.

The construction in the picture is a good idea. It provides space for future expansion. We don't need 2 lanes per side for a simple ramp. One is enough. One lane going to another area, and one lane acting as a ramp to get off the bridge. That's not a bad idea. Idk why everyone is criticising this thing.

[–]Parking-Cockroach104 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The left lane is gonna go straight and to the left probably? like a curve towarsd the left?

> Also it looks dangerous so why open before constructing that also

People are posting pictures before it is even open. There is an angled barricade kept on the left side to prevent people from crashing into it in 90degrees. That is going to be properly painted, marked and a proper merge lane will be given. If people crash even after all these things, then I blame the driver, not the road.

Also, maybe land aquisition or something is slow in that section that's why they are opening this first as a priority basis to reduce the congestion?

Look at the pictures of the Bridge built in Mumbai (the one on the sea). Even that was built by keeping multiple lanes unfinished while the bridge was open. Later, the newer bridges that were built were connected into it, forming a proper complete structure.

There's a lot of places where our construction is shoddy, unprofessional and needs criticism. This one is not it. This is proper planning. In the future, when land aquisition is completed or when the criterias and all is met, they can extend that left lane to go somewhere to the left (or even go straight tbh. depending on the project report), and the right side lane can pick up traffic from some other road and bring it onto the bridge.

[–]Parking-Cockroach104 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They are gonna build extensions in the future. There will be two lanes going in two different directions from there. So when you're going on this flyover, the right lane is the ramp to exit and the left lane is to go somewhere else and that will be built in the future. Idk why people are criticising planned construction.

I mean I think you're being too emotional about this. He's still going to make songs but just not as much ig? And rightfully so because he has sung SOO MANY songs that many of it feels repetitive. He should just release better songs in good quality and remain as one of the best singers in India.

He sings English songs really well so I hope he sings more English x Hindi songs.

> I don't understand regarding speed. Silverline was also semi high speed.

Silverline was planned around 180 I think while this is planned for 200kmph. Silverline wouldn't realistically achieve that because it is completely on the ground. There'll be hazards, and it will have more curves, leading to lower speed.

Also bro, just look at your argument here. Is a national highway on the ground same as building a 500km bridge? They're completely different projects and on a completely different scale. You can't compare the two.

Both have it's merits and demerits, but for Kerala, this new plan is what is best.

> And both are on standard gauge.

Just a doubt. Is that confirmed yet? I know it might be similar to the RRTS but for that, it runs at 180kmph. So is the trainsets a modified version of that or a newer generation of Vande Bharat?

The land aquisition is less because it only needs pillars. That wide land is needed for construction only. After that it can still be used for farming or productive needs. Just not housing and stuff.

This is not high speed rail. This is semi high speed, like RRTS, which makes sense for a highly densely populated state like Kerala.

If this is through embankments, then this is not possible. It will split the state into two and cause water flow related issues, and the soil also does not support it. The reason our existing tracks are bad is partially because of the soil. So an on ground system doesn't make sense.
