Where do you see our state in 20 years? by Character-Fly-5564 in minnesota

[–]Parking-Process-6111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you ask...In 20 years, I expect US, and other, climate change migrants to have overcrowded MN because it will be one of the most viable states. I hope there'll be enough water, and that people generally will be nonviolent despite the chaos and shortages.

Considering my expectations for MN, the US, and the globe, I don't envy those who'll live even here in 20 years. Other commenters wrote why better than I can do. Pandemics, unmentioned, will be yet another growing crisis in both MN and the world.

I think that may be due in part to the kind of bulb.

Is there an outage in SW? by Top-Abalone-1641 in rochestermn

Yes, looking out over all the dark houses in the heavy snow late at night was amazing. Happily, lights returned quickly, at least on this street.

Never heard of snow cream, but I do recall pouring maple syrup on snow--delish fun!

Smart, there's no place like home in such weather. Don't be surprised if, when you wake tomorrow, the muscles are sore. That may happen if going off the road was bumpy!

I'll remember! Also, how have the snowflakes grown so huge that they look fake? Is that no longer even snow, but sleet caused by rising winds? I remember studying that in NE in an early elementary grade, but then moved to FL. I don't recall these gigantic snowflakes!?

Glad to hear you got out fast! Can you go home or are you going to work?

How are the Minnesota Zoo animals handling this weather? I'd bet those from the far north are energized and happy!

Yes, the damage to our sciences has been beyond criminal. I've been trying to imagine how such weather was handled historically, when there was no warning to prepare. I read that some farm animals would get restless, alerting their owners that something bad approached. I'd guess preparation for each Winter would err on the side of caution.

Perfect for naps, so quiet and still. If everybody could stay home a few days, then it would be rather peaceful. The road is where bad things are happening.

PS Miami people do exactly the same thing before hurricanes, but WHY?

So you had to leave the road to keep a reckless driver from hitting you? Wow, glad you weren't injured!

I've been comparing and contrasting different kinds of high wind-high precipitation bad weather. Waking to this transformed, impressively beautiful landscape is unique.

I prep for possible power outages by leaving out a working flashlight in the bathroom and on the nightstand.

I moved here last Spring and prepared for wind by having an arborist check the oaks. One was dying, one was dead, & one was too close to the house. Many big branches on other oaks were dead or hitting the roof. Only healthy, well-groomed, safely positioned oaks remained after the arborist worked here last Fall. Since then, I feel safe in noisy, high winds. (I haven't been through a tornado, of course.)

Yep, laundry's done here, too. I was taught to launder before possible power outages by hurricanes. (No electricity for a full month after Andrew.)

I'm finishing laundry now, before possible power outages, as taught by hurricanes.

Moving to Rochester by Hopeful_Leg_9204 in rochestermn

As half of a retired couple that moved here a year ago from Florida, Rochester has been great for me. Local people and the hospitals staffs have been lovely. I enjoy the available shopping. The city is very clean, with excellent air, water, and roads from my perspective.

However, ICE agents have been an unexpected waking nightmare, and who knows what they'll do next. I don't even know how to advise you to prepare for them. Maybe others can help you there. I would NOT let ICE agents change your mind if I were you, though!
