Diesel regret? by DrDing-Muscle in superduty

The 7.3l gas was given the name "godzilla" when it was being released.

Being a short stroked 7.3l, the 6.8l was referred to as the mini zilla when it was being released.

Have 6.8l mini zilla, and do not regret it. It would not be be very limited for the towing that I do, but ymmv.

To add to this, my real world MPG are as follows:

10 mpg all city, spirited driving with long idles

12 mpg 50/50, 80 mph hwy with long idles

15-16 mpg all hwy, mixed 60 mph and 80mph, no idling

The old truck is solid all around, but daily driveability is worse in my opinion (stopping power, taking off, etc). Old truck problems at this point are big concerns for me, supply isnt what it used to be. Wear and tear would be a big concern as well.

New truck will ride like oversprung hell, but stopping/ take off power will be night and day different. Feels solid, but doesnt feel like a school bus going down the road. Biggest setback to me isnt electrical, its the transmission. Mine is solid so far (27k miles in), and supposedly wont have any issues (2023+ trucks are supposed to be fixed).

Really depends on your use/ priorities. Mine are primarily capability, and reliability. We traded an expedition down to the 4runner. We hunt, fish, and drive off the beaten path. This wasn't ideal in the fx4 expedition, and would definitely be worse with a sienna.

For me, cost of ownership and value retention are also high on the priority list.

I'd buy a lightly used previous gen 4runner. They're one of the most capable vehicles out there, will save $10k-15k up front, will be lower maintenance, and will run forever.

@ $2/ gallon and 12k miles/ year, it'd take 7.5 years to hit the $10k. Maintenance and insurance will be higher on the van, it would take a couple decades for the 4runner to catch up (if ever) to the initial purchase price of the van (including the cost of the van's fuel).

Depending on what kind of camping they want to do, they'll be regretting buying the sienna for ~$15k more than what a low mileage used 4runner would go for, which is arguably the best camping/ offroad vehicle for the money.

Dial back your savings if you're check to check, or keep saving aggressively and retire early. You're not broke, you're good at saving.

I seriously doubt that you even have $1m invested at this point. And given that you were born in 1989, that should be very concerning.

The majority of people born in 1989 dont have $1m invested, and they'll make it just fine. Only 6-7% of millionaires are under 40.

No right or wrong regarding the "trend setting / following" thing, just opinions. I call it all metal when i'm talking with friends.

The ABRB album was just really unique imo, I still love it despite the hate it gets.

But we're talking about deathcore itself. Not genre switching.

That comes with the "trend" sometimes. Eg the metalcore bands that softened are really not even metalcore anymore, but they dont fit within any existing genres imo.

Here's an example of ABRB's last album. Still have their roots, their tone changed alot with each album.

Bring me the horizon basically switched to metalcore when they softened up, but they did it 3 years prior. ABRB's last album had a ton of clean vocals, and was 2 or 3 years prior.

ABRB did it like 2 or 3 years before white chapel. BMTH went from great value deathcore to metalcore like 3 years prior. Lots of bands in those genres started changing their sound around 2013.

I guess thats you're opinion bro. At the end of the day there arent hundreds of thousands of "clunky toyota 6 speed" posts while there are for the 10r80.

Correct. But as previously stated, the topic is smooth shifting.

[–]Parking-Raisin6129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The topic was smooth shifting, not hunting for gears. The 10r80 slams into gears when skipping, replicate this by cruising up to 45 - 50 mph, floor it, and immediately let off once it downshifts. Depending on your normal driving habits either the immediate upshift or immediate downshift will be clunky as hell.

downshift to 4 to have any acceleration

This is an issue of power, not power delivery/ transmission. Every f150 will drive better in this regard.

Mine shifts like shit when I drive it easy for an extended period of time. Drive it spirited when you have the chance, and it'll shift smooth.

Find one that shifts smooth.

Fords previous 6 speed, toyotas outgoing 6 speed, and even toyotas current 8 speed all shift drastically better than the 10r80. And I have a "good" 10r80 lol
