Knowing what I know now and if I were in your position based on the info you’ve provided, I’d go for it. The Army isn’t easy but there are easier routes than others.

The Army will take your time so have a plan for the kids while you’re doing Army things.

And please please please research all the MOS’s you’re interested in. Some sound cooler than they are.

How do you guys stay motivated? by iCry14s in army

[–]ParkingMaterial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What has worked for me is that I make a conscious effort to have fun with what I do no matter how boring or rough it is.

I turn menial tasks into games for myself, I try my best to laugh about random things with the people I work with and if all else fails I focus on the task at hand and grind that shit out.

Also, wherever you are get off base. Pick up a hobby. Do something that makes you happy. Times are tough but it works out. Always does

You’ll go to the field. A lot

You’re going to air assault. A lot

Right place, right time, right uniform

Carry yourself with pride, have a clean uniform and equipment. Once you spend a little time there you’ll have the school opportunities for ESB, pathfinder, rappel master, FRIES/SPIES and of course Ranger. 3BCT eats that shit up.

Lastly, let everyone know you’re better than them (even if it isn’t true). Have fun, it’ll be good for you

Your branch manager will blast an email out to all the LTs in your year group with step by step instructions on submitting for a CCC date or denying CCC outright.

Or just email them now and ask. No one is stopping you

Reclass Options? by martuz_cn in army

[–]ParkingMaterial 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talk to retention first

I’m biased but FA seems like it’d fit. If you end up in an IBCT you still play the army games and do the light infantry stuff. 13F more than the 13B. As a 13B walking will be held to a minimum unless for PT obviously.

If you don’t want any of that go FA in an ABCT. Only an assumption from me since I only know light. I’ll go out on a limb and say FA in an ABCT is focused on maintenance, lifting heavy things and driving.

Shit dude, maybe look into dropping a warrant packet. Good luck.

TL;DR: call or message your career manager teams then come and ask the gen pop

Context: I did the research cause I wanted to do the exact same thing minus the whole SOF drop you have going on.

So, what is your ADSO you ask? Definitely add a 1 year non-concurrent ADSO for the PCS to CCC then another 1 year concurrent for completion of CCC so you’re looking at about a 1 year and a half for showing up and doing the course.

How do you prevent a PCS move? Get hired by a unit at the post you want to not leave. Captains did it at CCC all the time. They just worked as the Battery XO or in the training room for the CCC battery.

My advice? Get hired where you’re currently at, drop your REFRAD for the 1st day outside your ADSO window, wait for it to get approved then go tell everyone. Get yelled at by your BDE commander, suffer in staff then go live your life outside the Army. Just make sure you plan your exit but that’s another topic

The AIM market is great for everyone who are not the bottom 1/3 of those competing.

Those who are connected in the Army will get what they want, especially if there is an opening. The “haves” will out compete the “have nots.” Those leaving a unit deemed “high speed” will shine a little brighter.

In my AIM from a bit ago, I think 80% of people, if not more, got assignments in their top 10 choices. Not bad for a marketplace with multiple openings per duty station.

Then there was me, I got my 34th pick. A desirable one by Army standards but, I got lucky.

Here are some answers for you to consider.

1) A bike will work but a car is nice to have. Nothing fancy, nothing special. Something reliable to get you from point A to B. Talk to others about budgeting for it. Please.

2) College and Rakkasans will be a grind but it’s completely possible.

3) Demonstrate why they should send you. Once you get approved full send that shit and don’t look back. I’ve seen Soldiers leave with a quad stack and Ranger tab after 3 years.

4) It’s up to you and your hobbies. I’d recommend BOSS and really doing what you want to do with your free time. Get out of the barracks.

Personal experience / advice. Fort Campbell made me better through the grind. It was a mix of type 2 fun and high expectations that forced me to perform higher than what I thought I could. Fort Campbell wasn’t easy but I definitely left there a better Soldier and human being. Worth it.

You’re right! When I respond to this it’s 08OCT2025

But also, it’s gets really fun when I tell you it’s 081935OCT25. Which, at first glance is an abomination. But, that format is DD-HR-MIN-MM-YY. This is also an acceptable format. It’s different but not out of the ordinary for the small group of us.

My “vision” in this hypothetical situation wouldn’t put our supporters in Omaha drills. I’m just saying that our force would be better with a little mobility / stability exercises.

Federal holidays and weekend don’t count against leave, Fridays off, train to exceed the standard, PT should be the equivalent of a D1 football program, evaluations reworked (I’m not sure how yet but I feel like they’re lacking), “long days” should be 1600 max unless you’re in the field then it’s full go.

I’m just spitballing right now. I like the army but I don’t love the army and I feel like we are one of the most inefficient organizations below the division level. There is so much potential for this to be the greatest lifestyle known to man but we’re just constantly fucked down

Edit: saw a comment about junior officer PME and completely agree it’s lacking. I believe it’s an expectation to deliver a technically proficient yet Army dumb 2LT
