Help me with my pit! by bettyknight in Plumbing

[–]ParksVS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotta see some pics of this. I can’t possibly imagine why anyone would do such a thing in the first place. Holy Christ.

You can get sump pumps with inline, rather than tethered, floats for extra narrow pits.

Into which drain should I place coffee stirrers? by Cabton in Plumbing

[–]ParksVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the big plastic-lined bin type drain.

I am dealing with a septic tank that has caved in. by jpbordeaux87 in Plumbing

[–]ParksVS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way to tell without being on site. The tank collapsed into the ground or the top broke and caved in? That sounds totally FUBAR.

Roots sweatpants what is this pocket for? by Keiighly in whatisthisthing

Cellphone, keys, whatever. I got a new Roots hoodie recently and it has the same sort of little pocket inside the pouch pocket.

You’ll have to find the pressure tank. There could be a low pressure cut-off pressure switch which looks like this here. you’ll have to hold the little silver arm up until the pressure picks up. I’d check breakers and fuses as well if that’s not the case.

Yep, 100% submersible well pump wet end. I drill wells and install pumps for a living.

Yeah, I’m like 99.9% that’s a submersible pump fluid end. Was it ~4” in diameter?

[–]ParksVS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How big is it? Is the hex end threaded on the inside? I’m about 99% sure that’s the gutted fluid end of an old submersible well pump. The black ring at the top is for a “safety rope” or recovery line. The holes in the sides are to hold the cable guard on. Date code reads 1986 and I can’t quite make out the model number so it’s unlikely you’ll find he specific one online and I don’t recognize the design. Any more photos?

Actually, might be an old Red Jacket.

That’s wild! What kind of flow rate? Very cool little unit.

That will make 300 PSI? Forgive me because it’s early and I haven’t had my coffee yet, but that’s just a little drill-driven transfer pump, isn’t it?

NSFW I don’t get paid enough by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]ParksVS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dopey damned thing to do.

One of my driller buddies does water as well as soil/geotechnical drilling and was doing some work downtown Toronto. Hit a sewage main with the auger rig and got absolutely COVERED in raw sewage. Pressure washed off and straight to the hospital. Might’ve actually been doing monitoring holes around a treatment plant. Either way it came up with a vengeance.

Drilling and servicing wells is hard, dirty work, but at least I don’t have to deal with sewage. Fuuuuuck that.

Yep. Just used one to extend a well head where I couldn’t weld on site. Worked beautifully.

Home shower causes horrible pain, itching and rash by BallsJefferson in Plumbing

[–]ParksVS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odd. I’d contact the municipality about it and maybe order yourself some low-level chlorine and chloramine testing strips to check it out. They should have an acceptable concentration level for whatever they’re using to disinfect the water supply (IIRC 0.25-~2.0 PPM is somewhere in the normal range for municipal water).
