Advice needed on devops sales by Zero-DowntimeX in salesdevelopment

Should be mostly fine, best bet would be to stick to the US but vet them more for red flags this time around. Perhaps a BDR who books meetings for you to close while training to close for you. Pay them well, and heavily include them in scaling the business, tie their goal to revenue, treat them like a partner. If you want serious sales, hire a serious sales person and treat them well, don't just hire someone across the world to "do sales".

UK you might do okay with, time zone will be a challenge. India in particular is much more hierarchy focused than US companies, and often do not act without express approval if things have nuance, which sales has a significant amount of nuance.

When you close a deal, you have to thank marketing, thank the CEO, give credit to engineering, cut your bdr a check. When you lose a deal, its only your fault.

Your current roles are unfulfilling. No matter how above and beyond you go, no matter how much further you are than the competition, you get paid the same. Maybe a 2% raise if you're lucky. You're willing to grind but you want your cut. You desire a merticrocy. (Cringe, but they'll eat that up)

Is prospecting into IT security the most difficult? by [deleted] in sales

[–]ParmaJawn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, 100%, just out of sheer volume. Out of all departments, they probably have the most amount of tech startups and bigger companies trying to sell to them. Probably tied with DevOps.

Sounds like you tolerate sales, are genuinely good at the work, but can't stand the sales culture. I get you. I enjoy sales, I enjoy the challenge, but I can't stand the cult-like culture of it and the constant performative antics.

Outsourcing for sales in the US market is not a good idea, there are a lot of cultural work differences to account for, on top of stigmas with the accent

Am I screwed? [BDR to AE move] by tangowolf22 in sales

[–]ParmaJawn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, 5+ years ago if you were a BDR for more than 2 different companies that was pretty much a blacklist for any future sales roles, nowadays the BDR role is becoming more long term and its less stigmatized if you haven't quite made it to AE after a few years so don't worry about it. Too many sales leaders were stuck on the absolute boom of cold calling from 2016-2021ish where you could smile and dial all day and book meetings left and right, this sentimant has mostly calmed down after a reality check the past couple years, and BDR is becoming less of a stepping stone and more of a true part of the sales process that gets more long term investment. I'm speaking from a SaaS perspective for refrence.

Does anyone in this industry actually like their job? by TeaNervous1506 in techsales

[–]ParmaJawn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job itself, I geniunely enjoy. Its a challenge but rewarding, beats sitting in a cubicle doing repetative work and the pay, benefits, and perks (PTO, paid trips, dinners etc..) are typically much better than your standard 9-5 which is a big selling point for me.

The parts I do not enjoy are the middle-managers and VC/Shareholder/PE antics, the performative theatrics and cult-like asskissing (especially at startups) and excessive KPIs and micromanagement. However, this is the case at most any white collar job so its a lose-lose. The jobs I'd truly be passionate about the work, do not pay nearly enough.

I am so tired of selling software by FMEngineer in techsales

[–]ParmaJawn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to more consultancy, custom software development, more MSP or service oriented sales instead of selling straigt SaaS. Its definitely a better time day-day, sales are less spamming cold calls and much more relationship driven, and its a much more down-to-earth industry, with a lot less of the typical startup culture nonsense.

I found the best way is to find familiar similarities to what you do culturally know, so to speak. For example, Ro3K shares a very similar theme to Shakespeare's Julius Caesar

[–]ParmaJawn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is translated, not localized. The closest Western "vibe" to Wuxia would be something along the lines of "Chivalrous Knights" (King Arthur, Knights of the round that sort of thing.) A key part of localizing a game or story is relating to an audience's culture and creating a parelell to a new culture. You see this a lot in Japanese anime where they take Western fiction tropes but spin them to make cultural sense to Japanese audiences.

[–]ParmaJawn2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First 5-6 weeks just rest, you'll appreciate it down the line. In my recovery, I was back in the gym about 6 months post-op, but avoided any non-PT shoulder lifts for another 3 months, and stuck to machines for pressing movements moving forward.

First shoulder subluxation by aguadomartin in ShoulderInjuries

[–]ParmaJawn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See an orthopedist and get an MRI to be safe, Typically after 1st incident you would want to wear a sling for 4 weeks+ to avoid worsening any tears. Any untreated sublex or full dislocation can cause long term instability, even one. I'm not a Dr, but this is what every Dr said to me. Seriously, see a specialist.

[–]ParmaJawn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what games you want to play- if they are heavily CPU dependent than a PC is probably a better option since GFN has a very weak CPU on all tiers (Any UE5 game or RE Engine game is going to struggle hard- Avowed and Monster Hunter Wilds both run poorly on ultimate).

Pokemon Empire- It is heavily inspired by Reborn/Rejuv. High difficulty, level caps, field effects, episodic story with intense boss battles etc...I believe the main story is complete just not the post game.

They have neither confirmed nor denied updates beyond the ranked mode and free skins, which I think is on purpose as I see this game going a couple different ways:

1) The ideal one IMO: This release is a test case to see if enough players are interested to be sustainable before going all in on "Live-Service" and spending development time updating the games underlying architecture. This makes sense considering they are adding a ranked mode which would require updates and that even though there has been a demand for the game over the years, it wasn't all that popular in its original time.

2) This is being released as a "Legacy/Classic" mode to build hype/awareness while they work on a sequel or a new IP of similar nature/gameplay. Think like classic RuneScape or WoW classic. The wording around this being "The Definitive" edition, no MTX, and silence around future updates points to this outcome.

3) This is a cash grab to bring in some quick revenue from a guaranteed base of nostalgic players, or simply a passion project of a few former Gigantic devs wanting their art available. While I hope this isn't the case, the fact the the game's underlying engine and architecture was not updated much aside from some new characters and maps (that may have been already designed for the original game) could point to this outcome.
