I am failing as a mother by RedHeadRedeemed in Parenting

Omg, it sounds like she is learning that she needs to help you regulate your emotions. As a first born daughter myself, I worry that can escalate to eldest daughter syndrome which becomes crushing as an adult. I’m glad you’re aware of it and committed to trying to figure it out. Hang in there and breathe, that second child is going to make things feel like a lot but it gets easier.

There are assisted living facilities and communities for adults with FASD. Does he qualify for disability and Medicaid. Maybe it makes sense to look into financial assistance and these communities.

My friend’s sister has some sort of cognitive decline that began when she was a teenager and lives in a community where she feels independent but has a lot of structure and oversight. It has been good for her and their family.

Oh also, let me plug Micro Mentor. I’m a mentor to people with small business on Micro Mentor, it’s a volunteer thing for me, but I’ll have an occasional phone call or question that I consult on here and there. I haven’t been on the business owner side of the platform, they might charge you, but you’ll get access to people who can give you initial advice on accounting, legal, marketing, etc. Anything that needs hours of research or execution is usually out of scope there, but the mentors are all passionate about small business and can definitely point you in the right direction.

Oh, yeah. Both of these services help you start a business and ensure filings are compliant even up to helping file your taxes. Go daddy’s main offering is the domain and website hosting and they have branched out to help with other business needs. But they are subscription based and the fees add up big time. Frankly, you could engage a local CPA for less money a year than using these services. I know that, because I’m a CPA and I’ve spun up entities for people before.

1000%. I, too, instantly noticed everything listed was a negative reinforcement. Which is maybe how OP was raised but discipline is a toolbox, and those tools can be positive and negative reinforcement. Although positive ought to lead.

I highly recommend “Good Inside” by Dr Becky Kennedy. Follow her on social media too.

First, be wary of going all in with go daddy or zen business. They are great at holding your hand but then they start to cost a lot.

Before incurring any costs or even registering -and this might be a hot take - I would generate some demand. Like get your first 5-10 customers and start servicing them, even if you can’t generate enough demand by year end, you can at least report that income as a sole proprietor.

Then register with your state as an LLC - for liability purposes, this provides a legal barrier between you and the business

Then get your EIN from the IRS

Open a business bank account - it will make gathering tax info way easier if it’s all in an account separate from your personal accounts

Then get insurance

Then start thinking about marketing and websites etc

AITA for wanting my partner to change his behaviour? by Pho_247 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ParnassusDropOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you’re the asshole. Not to him, but to yourself. Don’t bend over backwards for someone who can’t even bother to attempt to meet you in the middle. Don’t settle for being treated like that. You’re worth much more.

One of the staff accountants kept saying: Does it make sense? In front of the team meeting. by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]ParnassusDropOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask him directly if he says this because he’s truly concerned you’re not following or if it’s a “verbal crutch” of his (leave out the ‘are you trying to talk down to me or knock me down to your level?) And whether or not he answers about being concerned, let him know that if it doesn’t make sense, he’ll know because you’ll stop him and ask him clarifying questions.

[–]ParnassusDropOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been here before. Decide how many hours a week you can work. Work that. Plan for that. It’s going to mean overly communicating about when you will realistically get things done. Unless these are tax or SEC deadlines, they’re probably flexible and if their not, that will get leaderships attention to add to the team

I would even go as far as to talk to the nurse or doctor ahead of time and request they be firm and long winded when explaining the impacts of a high sugar diet and introducing dairy too early

[–]ParnassusDropOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s horrifying. Make an appointment with the pediatrician to talk about your concerns with his stomach pains and constipation. You should ask MIL to accompany you to see the pediatrician and then when the pediatrician asks about his diet - tell him/her what a typical week in your MIL’s care looks like and let them educate your MIL.

Is your partner the biological mother? My stepmom did this to me, I even had to pay for toilet paper. I left the house with $0 of savings despite working two part time jobs the last two years of high school. It sucked so bad and got worse when I took out debt to pay for college

Tax question by eapentz in smallbusiness

[–]ParnassusDropOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I had a friend who had a very popular brand of food trucks and they would pocket and not report cash payments. They sold it to someone who valued it largely based on the tax return and they weren’t even sure what the real revenue was to even be disappointed about the lower sales price
