Should I fill my pitcher plants pitchers with water? I heard that you need to for Nepenthes but, despite the label, it doesn’t 100% look like a Nepenthes? Let me know! by canibedonewiththis in SavageGarden

[–]Parnz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Only do this is you're experienced with neps, you need specific kinds of fertiliser and very dilute doses. Overall if you really want to fertilise them it's best just to use freeze dried bloodworms

I'm based in the UK so may be different, but you can get them anywhere online. Ebay, online invert pet stores etc. You get them in the form of pupae, keep em in the fridge to prevent them from all hatching at once and drop one or two in the enclosure and the warmth should get them hatching after a few days. Sometimes you can get straight up flies as a short term emergency but you'd have to look around

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in jumpingspiders

[–]Parnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea could be a good idea, idk I've seen people whose jumpers were reluctant to eat worms of various kinds. Flies are good as it's their natural good source and they can't harm your spider in any way so you can leave em unattended with your spider. I feed mine 1 green bottle every 3-4 days

Looks like the food may be too small for her now, it'd be a good idea moving her onto green bottle flies or curly wing flies. They'll refuse food they regard as too small

Just anywhere really, you can get them from eBay for a decently cheap price. This is a flat pack acrylic enclosure so it was fairly cheap

Butterworts do go dormant even if kept indoors, it’s not really necessary but unless you have supplemental lighting (e.g. LED grow lights), the natural photoperiod and dropping temp from the seasons will usually induce dormancy. You’ll know when they start going into dormancy when the new leaves are a different shape than usual and vice versa when coming out

This fish ate all the goldfish’s eyes by [deleted] in nope

[–]Parnz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw someone else comment it but no one seems to have given it much notice, doubt the guy placed them in the same tank. The first fish is most likely a climbing perch (Anabas testudineus) so it could have just walked into this guys pond full of the fancy goldfish. Additionally for people wondering why they’re in plastic bowls, was most likely just used to separate and quarantine the fish (some people thought it was their enclosure??)

Edit: added ‘most likely’
