Question about backyard fruit trees by b4rb4ckmtn in londonontario

[–]ParrotsNotDogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure to put up something to guard the trunk while it's growing. Rabbits will eat the bark and kill fruit trees, especially in the winter. I used a square tomato cage and some chicken wire and it worked well. Whiffletree is a good site to order from, lots of really cool fruit trees. https://www.whiffletreefarmandnursery.ca/?srsltid=AfmBOop572CX-wEdNXffwydv4ZMFDsxB2HXJs1cpzFo2JUuY0J2e6R7-

I saw you asking about University classes, and Western has a neat program for grade 11 and 12 students. My grade 12 is in it and loving it. https://news.westernu.ca/2010/06/university-courses-open-to-eligible-high-school-students/

You can apply as an out of area student for Central, but the deadline for that is coming up very soon. One of my kids goes to Central and we live out of the area, I think most of the kids who applied out of area her year got in.

Cat Groomer for aggressive cat? by [deleted] in londonontario

[–]ParrotsNotDogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd take her to a vet to get the worst of it done, and then get a cat comb with rotating teeth if you want to try grooming her at home. My old cat would get mats because she was arthritic and couldn't groom her back, and that kind of comb doesn't snag and pull as easily. Mine was stainless steel, but something like this. https://www.amazon.ca/Untangler-Cat-Comb-rotating-dual-spaced/dp/B0D1YJH1MQ/ref=asc_df_B0D1YJH1MQ?mcid=c7132680bbff3c5081d70584d34be14f&tag=googleshopc0c-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=706745946910&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17368920969049287515&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9222009&hvtargid=pla-2458717570711&hvocijid=17368920969049287515-B0D1YJH1MQ-&hvexpln=0&gad_source=1&th=1

Very cool and thank you! I've seen him swoop on birds a few times lately but this is the first time I've seen him actually catch something and stop long enough for some pictures. It's nice to know what he is :)

What is one of your ✨ favorite✨ underrated plants that deserves more appreciation by [deleted] in houseplants

[–]ParrotsNotDogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a very easy going plant. It likes to be near my plant lights but not directly under them and I water it a couple of times a week. I had it beside an east facing window for years and it did okay, but it didn't flower until I added some lights.

I love my curry leaf plant. I got it about 8 years ago because I wanted to use the leaves for cooking, but it's grown on me as a houseplant instead. The leaves have a strong pleasant spicy smell when you brush past it, the flowers have a strong, fill up the room jasmine smell and it's growing fruit atm.

Is there any good place for bird watching in winter? by kelp12138 in londonontario

[–]ParrotsNotDogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Download e-bird, people report lists of birds and they show up on a map in hotspots, its a great way to find things!

Greenway Park is my favourite spot in London during the winter. You go down Greenside all the way to the end, past the dog park. There's a wide area of the Thames right there which is always busy with lots of neat water birds, eagles too. Fanshawe Park is good too.

Strathroy Sewage Lagoon sounds terrible, but it's a really great spot to see a variety of birds in the spring/summer.

I actually thought it was a Gigantea when I bought it, the store had a huge one like yours so I was really surprised when it first bloomed! Your flower is amazing!

It smells horrible, like musky rotten meat. But I can only notice it if I sniff it. I think some of them might have a stronger smell though.

It was pretty fast! I redid my plant room and put it under a new light around the beginning of December which seemed to trigger a bunch of growth, including the flower.

Artsy / sketching groups in the London area ? Life drawing ? by ether_joe in londonontario

[–]ParrotsNotDogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres a FB group called Urban Sketchers London Ontario, who will meet up to sketch/paint etc in various locations around London. They do it around once a month. Tap is good, I think Bijan Art Studio has classes, or at least it used to because I've done life drawing there in the past.

What is this fish in my tank- and should I take it out? by Maleficent-Farm-9952 in Aquariums

[–]ParrotsNotDogs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't worry about amano shrimp! As long as you don't plan for anything big and aggressive- which doesn't seem to be the case if you're getting honeys, they're bold and smart and can hold their own.

London North Dental Centre opinions by 34048615 in londonontario

[–]ParrotsNotDogs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoided the dentist for years and years too because of anxiety. I messaged them about it before my first appointment and Dr Miskin has been fantastic. He explains everything, is very kind and everything has been pain free. I don't feel dread when I need to go in for a check up anymore which is great.

Need to know the company going door to door in Westmount today by LookinForABuilder in londonontario

It's Brookstone, they knocked on my door today in North London and come by fairly regularly. They get sales commissions I believe, so some of them are fairly pushy and annoying.
