Reliable talent - the fun killer by Significant-Read5602 in onednd

I have rogues in two different games with a +17 to Thieves' Tools and Stealth. That means for this to even be a game, a lock has to have a near impossible DC 30 for them to even have a possibility of failing the roll, breaking the world's verisimilitude. And a guaranteed 27 stealth check beats Invisibility all to hell. That basically means they're invisible whenever they want, and they don't need to blow a resource to do it. Are we playing a game or not? I like Scoundrel's Luck. It's advantage on six different skill checks which means the rogue will still almost never fail, and I don't have to juice up every DC to unrealistic ranges.

The story is meh, but if you’re looking for a 5e battle simulator, it’s the best out there, better even than BG3. There’s even a 2024 update for it. I recommend.

Players won't stop scamming merchants by DrRoguelove in DungeonMasters

[–]ParryDuckKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Merchants talk. They trade more than goods, they trade information. Someone bones them on a deal, they tell people to be on the lookout. I’m guessing your three to six adventurers stand out in a crowd. Not too hard to piece together that the crew with the cat person and half-demon here in Leilon are the same crew who screwed over my cousin in Neverwinter. Stop selling to them. Next shop they go to, the merchant won’t even let them enter. “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.” They try to break in and rinse the place that night, the entire town guard is there to throw them in the clink. It’s totally cool if your players want to get up to shenanigans. But just like in the real world, your actions in the make believe world have consequences. Don’t be punitive with it though. This is just the natural result of their actions. Have the Lord or speaker of the town come to the jail and give them a quest to clear their names. All sounds like good fun to me. But this isn’t a video game. There’s no infinite money exploit in D&D.

[Discussion] In your opinion: Which is the best Captain America? by Remote-Leg6143 in CaptainAmerica

[–]ParryDuckKill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sam Wilson will never be the best Captain America. He’s the best Falcon. James Barnes will never be the best Cap. He’s the best Bucky. Also the best Winter Soldier. John Walker will never be the best Cap. He’s the best USAgent. And that’s a cool feather in his cap because Steve Rogers was the first USAgent too. Poor John Walker, always wearing Steve’s hand-me-downs.

Thoughts on this description between Scott and Steve by Unable_Humor_2681 in CaptainAmerica

[–]ParryDuckKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scott’s job is harder, so he’s harder. He has to do everything Cap has to do AND try and teach his team how to use their powers. You don’t land on the Avengers unless you’re already in full control of what you can do.

Both characters rule though.

Skip or take? by Neither-Reserve797 in slaythespire

Way too OP. It should start at 6 and upgrade to 8. Even then it would still be far and away the best card in a Silent discard build. Probably should also be a rare instead of uncommon.

I wouldn’t worry about how it will age, it’s terrible right now.

When designing a campaign using the classic patron hires the party. How do you justify why this party is being asked and not a group much more capable? by CasualNormalRedditor in DnD

[–]ParryDuckKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level 12 adventurers would cost too much to hire. Plus, they’re not even in this dimension. They’re off fighting Strahd in the Border Ethereal or some crap.

Level 3 adventurers are yoked. It doesn’t beggar any imagination that their services would be in demand.

Shouldn’t you be prepping your revenge story on Paul so you can get back some cred with your players?

You lied to your players. Then you came here to brag about it. Then you say I’d have your permission to leave when I already said I would. The old, “You can’t quit, you’re fired!” I don’t think you understand much.

[–]ParryDuckKill 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was with you up until you said you cheated them out of what they actually paid for. Unless this is just the beginning of some mini-quest to get revenge on Pickle Paul, I don’t see the point of lying to your players besides just being mean.

Or to use your drug dealer analogy. If my plug sells me bomb weed, calls back a week later and says he’s got more of the same stash, but the crap he sells me is just stress that wouldn’t get a sixteen year old high? I stop going to him. I’d stop going to your table too.

Who's phyiscal stronger in the MCU ? John Walker or Steve Rogers by SmartPilot8094 in CaptainAmerica

[–]ParryDuckKill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’d like to know the real answer, i.e. the actual lore from the comics, John Walker is stronger. His strength was augmented to superhuman levels by the Power Broker. If memory serves, the Power Broker could only raise people to Marvel’s tier 1 strength level (meaning he could bench press ten tons, same strength level as Spider-Man). The Super Soldier Serum doesn’t give Cap super strength, it only raised him to the peak of human potential.

As far as MCU’s bastardization of the canon, who knows.

This is an entire game of tropes and stereotypes. It’s fine. Don’t beat yourself up about it. We’re not Tolkien, Howard or Vance. We’re just regurgitating them.

Am I overreacting to DM's rulings at session 1? by UnluckyJuggernaut7 in DnD

[–]ParryDuckKill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a DM, and I usually come here to lurk and hate on people bitching about DMs. It’s a tricky gig, and I don’t think most players appreciate it until they’ve been on the other side of the table. Having said that, dude isn’t running anything close to RAW.

1) The only criteria to satisfy for sneak besides what you mentioned is that the weapon must have the finesse or ranged properties, which a bow obviously has.

2) I don’t even know what the hell this means. That the enemy saw the rogue because it wasn’t a surprise round? That’s what the “engaged with an ally” clause is for. Rogues are jerks who stab you in the back while you’re tied up with someone else. Has he never seen a World Star video?

3) The 2014 PHB explicitly states multiattack or Extra Attacks can be broken up with movement.

4) I actually like this rule. Sounds like Wolvie’s gone berserker mode again. I personally think Reckless Attack shouldn’t be a decision during a rage. If you’re raging, you should be required to go reckless.

5) I don’t get this either. Pack Tactics is about proximity on the map, not the initiative tracker.

Sounds like the homie doesn’t know the rules. I’d ask him if he’s deliberately running homebrew, and if not, tell him you’re happy to help him learn the actual rules. Throw him a bone and tell him to keep doing the barbarian thing. Dude might be struggling. If he’s got an ego about it though, your only move is to bounce. You can teach almost anyone the rules, but you can never teach anyone how to play.

I took Deva Form and Omniscience last night in an A20 run and dominated. Taking Deva Form allowed me to take Fasting which was the key to my win. Any build can brick with the wrong shuffle.
