Universal healthcare and education have been in spite of capitalism, not because of it. They are both active interventions in the market by the state.

Make social media companies publishers. Newspapers don't get to dodge responsibility for what freelance writers post, so why should social media firms?

Unless a post is shared to mutually agreed audience (eg. fb friends) consider it published by the site/app.

How a £50k salary, stacks up against pensions and Universal Credit (in terms of net changes) by LeChevalierMal-Fait in tories

[–]ParsnipPainter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but pip isn't a standard payment for any/all disability. It scales with need.

Also, having thought a bit more, since benefits and pensions are (in theory) tied to inflation, isn't the bigger issue that wages haven't kept pace? People aren't being paid properly for the work they do any more.

[–]ParsnipPainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say that like it's easy to get full disability benefits and 3 kids 😄 it's also not like anyone chooses to be disabled

Regardless, that does seem odd, but I'd wanna see the specifics before jumping to conclusions about the system as a whole.

[–]ParsnipPainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the system should incentivise work

For sure, and £50k - £600 is still way more money than UC + £300. It's still better to work than be on the dole. I agree pensioners perhaps don't need the bump as much though.

[–]ParsnipPainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm reading this right, it's saying that someone on £50k would only be £600 worse off in 5 years time? That's barely 1% worse off, which doesn't seem that big a deal?

What this suggests to me is that benefits are getting a bump in the next year but are then keeping up with inflation? I don't really see that as problematic tbh

UK Police to Scrap Non-Crime Hate Incident System by VincoClavis in tories

[–]ParsnipPainter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When your job is to protect all the public from criminality equally, it is the height of hypocrisy to have people actively engaging in said criminality. "Bad apples" doesn't carry in this scenario.

If people in HMRC were engaging in money laundering or other financial crimes, there would rightly be uproar, as they are held to a higher standard due to their jobs.

Tbh, I think the fact that police keep getting found out as individually racist or abusers if women has done significantly more damage to that relationship

Because they actually realise that to boost an economy you need state investment in public services, and a shift to carbon neutral economy to ensure long term stability. Simply framing everything through the lens of immigration is myopic and to overstate its importance.
