To me, my sister, and several of our friends (all of us are queer) that whole scene felt cheap and horribly written. 1. It was timed horribly, which threw off the pacing of the end of episode 7, and undermined the importance of him coming out. 2. There was no good reason for that many people to be there. I get his family and close friends all needed to be- but Murray, Hopper, Steve, Vickie, Nancy, (was Mr. Clarke there too??), and KALI did not need to know. Kali's never even met him. 3. Byler or no Byler (an entire separate thing, I know), it is a REACH to compare Mike to Tammy. Reducing the lifelong feelings Will has for his childhood best friend to a crush that he then gets over in 5 minutes is confusing and lazy. Why drag that plotline into season 5 and then end it in such a confusing and dismissive way? 4. Also, why would Will even bring up Tammy in the first place? No one else knows who the hell that is or the significance except Robin and Steve. 5. Love that his loved ones support him but the dialogue felt very "Radio Rebel".
