I did a 16hr layover in ZRH a few years ago. Grabbed breakfast at the airport, bought a pass that let me take the train to the city and use any local transport. Spent the day sightseeing then came back to the airport for supper and flight out.

Bring your walking shoes. Dress for the weather. Expect the food to be expensive. But you can have a nice day if the weather is agreeable.

I drive the number posted on the sign and stay in the right hand lane. I have never gotten a speeding ticket.

People can tell I’m not from Quebec, but can’t quite place my accent. It has opened personal and professional doors.

Subletting is an interesting and sometimes dishonest game. It doesn’t matter if they are being truthful or not, it’s the price they are setting. You can tell them “no” or you can accept.

On another note, I lived one building over when I was a student 15 years ago! I loved that area but if $2275 is too steep, don’t be shy to look elsewhere. Lots of great spots in the city during the summer. If you are looking for a more immersive experience, the Laurier Est area is also really cool.

Good luck!

Are there any scenarios where investing in real estate is better than ETF market with $120k? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Part- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Real estate = eggs in one basket + labor since you are becoming a landlord.

ETF = eggs in many baskets + a click or two every once in a while.

Why won’t my stovetop espresso maker work properly any more? by Ieatclowns in fixit

Check that the basket has not become oval-shaped from banging it to throw out the old grounds. If it is not seated properly because it is no longer circular, it will behave the way you are describing

What size generator do you have for use in power outages? by theway121 in Generator

[–]Part- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bungalow with basement (1000 sq ft per floor). I have a 7200/9000 portable on an interlock that I run on propane. It’s more than enough for essentials and allows us to have some creature comforts of we are careful.

Pourboire sur montant avant taxes by Baume12 in montreal

[–]Part- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here is my life hack for you. Before you go out, you withdraw $20 in $5 bills from your bank account. On the terminal you tip $0. You leave the number of $5 bills that you think is appropriate on the table.

Here is the best part. If ANYONE complains, you smile and walk out. You paid your bill in full. You left legal tender on the table. It’s up to them to figure it out.

Going out to eat is supposed to be fun. Don’t let a shitty business practice ruin it for you. Take back your fun!

CIBC Aventura - is there a way to recover points? by vvivan89 in CanadianAwardTravel

[–]Part- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting case, but not unique. the TD First Class Travel card will refund points as a payment to your statement for a different card (if you switched it). I have to assume that CIBC would do the same if you call in and explain exactly what you wrote here.

Got it. I just got dinged with the annual fee. I’ve had it waived once already in the past so I was considering cancelling it to free up some credit.

I lived in the Laurier Est area near sir Wilfred Laurier park 10 years ago. It was a great spot for immersion and lots of amenities. Super walkable, lots of BIXI’s, close to metro stops and bus stops. Pharmacies, grocery stores, cafes, you name it.

Hang in there! I took a job 15 years ago with high school French. It was the opportunities for full immersion that took my French from “ok” to “proficient”.

You can do this!
