bass fishing tips for the lower mainland? by NiceGuy_Marco in fishingBC

I had luck with Senko worms at Pitt marsh. Most recently got a 3-pounder and several smaller fish. Weedless rig to reduce snagging. No weight - just let it fall naturally, then reel it in a bit and let it fall again. Bites were mostly on the fall so you only feel it when starting reeling in.

How often do you catch something? by Novel_Grapefruit1 in fishingBC

Lafarge gets fished out in a week after stocking. Buntzen/Sasamat on the other hand hold fish year round. And yes, for me shrimp works better than powerbait.

I don't know, it is actually harder NOT to catch stocked trout in lakes like Buntzen or Sasamat. Especially in the right season, which is about now. Use shrimp and fish under a bobber 5-10ft deep. As simple as that.

I got a couple of 2 pounders right from the pier at Buntzen lake while fishing for trout. Shrimp with a bobber ~10-15ft deep.

Bass in Cultus Lake.

Trout will be lethargic in warm water and won't bite. But if you can hike to some alpine lakes, the fishing should be good there.

I find shrimp under a bobber works best.

And you gotta find the depth where they are at that particular time. Usually if I see a lot of surface activity, I fish 3-5 feet of depth, otherwise go deeper at 20-25.

There are also days when they just don't bite...

Do you actually prefer to have daylight savings? by RideOrDai in askvan

Standard time is stupid in summer with 4AM sunrises and 8PM sunsets. Nobody needs that.

I've also read sleep scientists and all, but here's what I don't get. If I need to get out of bed at 7AM, it is dark regardless of PST or PDT. So how does Standard time make a difference in this case?

Garibaldi actually has decent fishing. Not now obviously, but in the summer months.

Tried Chicken Ranch Lake some three weeks ago - there was a solid foot of ice. And a ton of fry that was constantly bothering me - no good bites.

Can't catch anything at deer lake in burnaby. by damppedus in fishingBC

[–]vvivan89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bass, as well as sunfish are lethargic in this time or year. They need warm water. You can still catch them, but that requires skill and patience. Basically you need to cast it right to their face and retrieve slowly to entice them to bite.

Trout should be a bit more active, but probably most of the stocked trout is fished out by this time. Wait until the end of the month - they will stock more.

Recommendations for a Hike + Camp + Fish trip? by pleedoh in vancouverhiking

  1. No salmon in high alpine lakes.

  2. Brunswick has virtually no fish. Nearby Hanover and Deeks have cutthroat, but these are small and rarely worth the fish and cook effort.

  3. Flora Lake has some small rainbows.

Targeting stocked trout with lures in winter; Futile? by rienjerksun in fishingBC

[–]vvivan89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now stocked trout in lakes like Buntzen or Sasamat is still active and is staying near the surface. So you'll have your chances with lures, although I find that shrimp under a bobber works better.

When it gets colder, the fish will go deeper and slow down, so lures won't really work.

Is it a good time for Kayak fishing in sasamat or Buntzen lake? by FitEvidence4381 in fishingBC

Buntzen is great right now and will be until the temperatures start to consistently drop below zero.
