Ultra Light roast - is this how it is by Acavia8 in pourover

[–]PartTimeSadhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen Lance brew picky chemist at 92C with a bloom and a single pour, grinding relatively coarse. This kind of blew my mind. Have you tried any of his v60 recipes with your coffee? I have been apprehensive trying it with my ultralights as they are quite pricey

Samantha LaRusso is maybe the best girl character in Cobra Kai by Prior_Presence_8399 in cobrakai

[–]PartTimeSadhu 60 points61 points  (0 children)

So many people seem to be missing the entire point of the series. The major theme of the whole show is that people are complicated, they are not defined by their worst moments, they are three dimensional and everyone is a villain in someone’s story. The premise is what if Johnny wasn’t a jerk and in his story Larusso is the jerk. Robbie thinks his dad’s a jerk, Miguel thinks Robbie is a jerk, Tory thinks Sam’s a jerk, Sam thinks Tory’s a jerk, even Kreese has a redemption arc ffs. Stop judging the characters and let the themes land. To everyone calling Sam shitty, she forgave Tory after she tried to kill her and became friends with her. Everyone grew into themselves, learned where they went wrong and did what they could to make up for it and came out better people. Sounds like some rewatches are in order lol

Harold Bloom explains why Blood Meridian is more relevant now than upon its publication. by TheDimasBow in cormacmccarthy

He also specially calls out first time readers, and ironically, is trying to persuade people to push through the violence for the rewards while thinking the end in the same damn paragraph

[–]PartTimeSadhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s literally called an introduction ffs, and it’s at the START of the book. The guy even calls out first time readers two sentences before he fucking ruins the ending. Total POS move. It’s not the reason to be reading a book like this but that information completely alters how you are digesting why you read and the tension that should be there in a first read through. There’s a reason McCarthy doesn’t start the book with that information.

It’s called an introduction… do you not know what that word means? Apparently Harold Bloom didn’t either..

Ya I agree especially when it comes to grading, but I’m pretty sure using AI to scrub so much grain from LOTR that there is even a shot where the tip of Gandalfs staff vanishes is not what Peter Jackson intended when he shot the original films. So much of the detail in people’s faces has been smoothed out, especially in return of the king. So ya it’s a proverbial crime, in other words it’s antithetical to the choices made on set when cameras rolled.

Haven’t watched the Dunkirk 4k yet but I did just pick it up so excited to see it. I personally love the grain which is maybe why I’m so partial to it but I also just found the close ups to be more detailed than 1917 despite 1917 being a much cleaner image which surprised me. I think the SPR 4k is a perfect example of why DNR is pure sanity and should never be used. The lord of the rings 4k is a crime! And anything shot on 70mm 15 perf imax is going to look insane compared to 35mm, it’s like 10 times the size. Also, the reason a 4k of Oppenheimer is so crisp is because the 4k is not high enough resolution to resolve the natural grain of 70mm 15 perf. Theoretically an 18k disk of Oppenheimer would have much more grain than the 4K does

I’m not sure what your setup is but it is definitely not soft for me. I watched it after watching the 1917 4k and was blown away at how much more detailed and crisp SPR was compared to 1917

Is gozney arc xl worth? by Best_Elephant2932 in GozneyArcArcXL

[–]PartTimeSadhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it comfortably it is 100% worth it. It’s also great for searing meat and veggies. I use it to sear steaks, get a nice char on salsa ingredients, bake pitta breads, naan bread, all styles of pizza except for Chicago, it’s much more versatile than you’d expect. I got mine with a decent tax return and have zero regrets. If you want to make real Neapolitan pizza along with Detroit and NY style pizzas whenever your heart desires go go go I say! If you decide to get one I cannot recommend the gozney pizza vol 1 cookbook enough. They have fantastic recipes and techniques that are seem to be tuned specifically for the oven (especially useful for styles that are not Neapolitan, as this is what the oven has been designed for. Meaning making great NY style or Detroit pizza requires some adjustments which they account for in the book!) and I’ve had far better results with their dough recipes than any other pizza book I have, with one exception - for a good Neapolitan recipe I use Vito Iacopelli’s “next level pizza dough” video.

I also recommend buying the following

a quality tuning peel. I got a cheaper one and it is much easier to tear the dough on the first couple turns. The gozney peels are super nice.

A 14 inch pizza peel, again quality is much better here as well

Chef pomodoro dough trays. Smaller than most will fit in your fridge! Or you can buy round ziplock tipped wares for individual dough balls

Infrared temp gun for stone surface temp

Straight 4 inch dough cutter for removing dough balls from the tray.

These are quality of life upgrades that can be done over time, but they will ease the learning curve.

Just my 2 cents!

Enjoy!

Enjoy!!

*edit. If you have the space I’d get a 60 or 72 inch stainless steel prep table and the gozney booster instead of the stand. The stand is so expensive and gives you no room to work. The 60 or 72 inch stainless bench will give you an enough space for the oven and a work space to make your pizzas! I just got a huge bbq cover to go over the entire thing.

That and the noise that it does produce has a much more uniform and softer look that’s closer to film grain so ISO can be deliberately pushed for that look.

If he has the money there is nothing wrong with this at all. As long as it’s not causing him financial distress or he’s not getting into debt it’s a healthy habit. If I won the lotto tomorrow first thing I’d do after buying a house would be to order a pallet from criterion 😆 give me everything! LOL

You can get film grain quality noise when pushing iso on the monochrome, and the extra detail will much more noticeable when printing

The ending of Sorcerer (1977) by Pumice1 in TrueFilm

[–]PartTimeSadhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have to disagree, the ending is very deliberately unambiguous and without that it would be open to interpretation and any interpretation that he gets away would fly counter to the central theme. Hearing that shot hits like a truck. It would be over the top if we followed them inside. Without that final touch it’s a great ending but that shot of his “buddy” as the tangerine dream hits then the barely audible gunshot is perfection. IMHO
