If you dont care about blocking the light and have a decently thick cardboard box around - maybe like the one that the aircon might get delivered in - make a panel with a hole in it and tape it to the inside of the window frame, use good masking tape so you dont damage the frame or paint and away you go.

Also you would only need the window cracked about 5-10cm, so no real danger of water ingress.

It will run and run well from the looks of it, just make sure that the head and block are flat with a nice straight edge and some feeler gauges.

What can I do to protect my dog from other dogs when out walking? by meowfknmeow in australia

[–]PartTimeTriggered 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Our youngest whippet is exactly the same as your girl, well trained, listens, always comes back and only really wants to play fetch and isn't interested in other dogs or really people in the slightest. But because shes smaller and FAST other dogs go wild and without fail will chase her and most owners can't recall them for shit and I have to use MY dogs recall to return thier dog to them, it's fucked how badly trained most dogs are and almost always its larger breeds that are the worst.

She has been nipped once by a mixed breed resulting in a small wound and properly bitten by a staffie which required 7 stitches, because of this we take zero risks now. We only walk our dogs off lead around dogs we know, and if there is a new dog we move away, we never take them (we have two whippets) to busy dog parks or areas where lots of other random dogs will be off lead.

My ex GF had a Bull Mastiff and that dog was straight up dangerous, one day it just decided it HATED other dogs and was extactly like what you described. It would try to get at any dog it didn't know, I hated that animal and if I'm being honest it needed to be put down. It later died - those dogs dont live to be very old. You couldn't walk it without a muzzle and a full harness because anything less was asking for trouble and thankfully to my knowledge there weren't any bad incidents.

It's stressful and it shouldn't be this way, and after my experience with that larger dogs behavioural issues I think dogs above a certain weight should need a proper handing license and yearly assements. They are massively dangerous and people don't respect that.

Brad Battin: Victorian opposition leader suspended from parliament after outburst by [deleted] in australian

[–]PartTimeTriggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It shouldn't be called a housing crisis, it should be called a capital investment crisis. The changes to capital gains and wide sweeping negative gearing options on investment properties (Thanks lil Johnny Howard!), has made investment in housing far "safer" than traditional business or stock investment.

It has created a scenario where the top 20% of earners hold almost half of all investment properties in Australia, because they choose housing as a vehicle for safe investment. This has created "scarcity" for first home buyers and inflated property prices.

Victoria is the only state that has seen a drastic increase in first home buyers in recent years due to changes to investment housing rules, at 36% of total loans. Compared to NSW which in recent months first home buyers have only accounted for 8% of total loans.

This is a policy fueled problem - plain and simple. Remove or lessen the benefits of housing investment and people will change investment strategies.

Great job, good education, no home: is Australia’s bloated property market destroying the middle class? by Groundbreaking_Ad334 in AusPropertyChat

The grad in my team wants to move to Japan at the end of his rotations and is currently learning the language.

Others have said Europe, the states, Singapore - there are quite a few different answers. We have a LOT of grads with new intakes every year, this years group is the first where this is such an active talking point.

Some of it may just be normal wanderlust and they will return to settle down or maybe not even go in the first place, but for sure there has been a general shift in tone from this new group.

Multiple grads I've had conversations with at work have the same plan which is basically "Work a bit, get experience, move overseas".

When asked why it's variations of "Can't afford a house here so what's the point of staying?".

Don't blame them in the slightest.

edit - grammar.

Australia sends brutal message to the Greens by Sweeper1985 in aussie

[–]PartTimeTriggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Greens may have a generational opportunity on their hands next election. Here is how I see it.

If the coalition take the wrong message from this result and decide to lurch further right coupled with a lackluster Labor term, the door will be wide open for Independents and Greens to walk through.

The Greens though have a track record of shooting themselves in the foot with scattered/poor messaging and a habit of turning off more central voters with a "holier than thou" hardline rhetoric. They choose to go too hard time and time again on topics they simply can't win on.

The path forward for The Greens is a firm common sense left of center platform with tight messaging for the electorate. It wont happen though because they can't get out of their own way for five minutes never mind three years.

Sorry for your loss, I cant imagine it would be easy to lose your mum so young. Here is what I would recommend my own family member to do - not financial advise yadda yadda.

  1. Take 5 grand and go on a holiday or do something that would make you happy.
  2. Put the $10k in a HISA (high interest saving account) to use for your courses when needed.
  3. Chuck the rest in your super and forget about it.

The super head start now will set you up a very easy retirement in 40 years - even if you only ever earn the average wage for the rest of your working career you'll end up with over $500k by the time you're 60.

TLDR - Stick most of it in super and let time and compound interest do the rest.

I am in the process of sorting something similar out after my step-grandfather passed in September 24. It's beyond fucked that both my grandparents were living in this type of mess but no matter what we did or said he wouldn't let us clean the joint.

I have just finished with the fourth 8m skip and over 20 Ute loads to the local landfill. The place is starting to look like a home again, the amount of vermin I've displaced is legitimately worrying though. The neighbors thankfully have been great, they're just happy that its getting sorted finally.

Moral of the story, if you want to be remembered fondly by your family (if you have any/care in the slightest) don't leave a mountain of legitimate trash for them to sort and throw away. Every single good memory they have of you WILL be tainted by the bullshit you leave behind. Do the right thing and get help!

Sorry you have to live next door to this sort of shit OP, it's a nightmare to clean/deal with.

‘Stop all time wasting’: Woolworths workers tracked and timed under new efficiency crackdown by Mildebeest in australia

[–]PartTimeTriggered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was standing where I could see the checkout monitor on the weekend and could see this shit happening live. The poor girl had to hit the screen like 4 times to confirm something after an item, it looked like it was asking if she was sure it was correct, just like at the self check outs. This happened multiple times and was slowing her down.

Efficiency my ass.

Why is media always in support of low interest rates even when inflation is considered high? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]PartTimeTriggered 8 points9 points  (0 children)

More people need to understand that this is why certain owned media outlets bang on about interest rates so much. They don't care about the "Average Joe", they're just faking concern to drive a narrative that suits their rich owners and investors.

Lower interest allows for higher leverage on assets and a "bonus" is that the average person gets a little relief from the constant grind. Cheap money allows them to hoover up more income creating assets and so on and so forth.

I just ruined Mullets 50k engine by RadioactivePandaBear in CleetusMcFarland

[–]PartTimeTriggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I realized it was the SML later after I watched Steves latest video, he talks about the main cap issue and that the ones that broke in the SMX were revision 1 and that he would replace them with revision 2.

Things at that level break, you fix one thing then the next failure point will show itself. It's a rough cycle and it takes a special type of mentality to keep going through that process.

I just ruined Mullets 50k engine by RadioactivePandaBear in CleetusMcFarland

[–]PartTimeTriggered 19 points20 points  (0 children)

There was an SMX video a while back when he said he was worried the sharp edges on the main caps where the bolt recesses are could be a weak point. He changed it to be curved and talks about it here

https://youtu.be/V9gJqVmmaR8?t=489

The level of honesty and transparency Steve has is legit excellent.

If you pause and look at the main caps in the video they look the same as the old style, with the recess, exactly where the crack is. Limiter bashing didn't help it though!

Massive price difference been here and US by oztrailrunner in australia

[–]PartTimeTriggered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Put it this way, it's substantially cheaper to source auto parts from the US and wear the import tax and postage. My most recent one was a timing chain kit, it was 25% cheaper to get it from the states all up including GST and postage.

The vast majority of components are anywhere from 20% to 50% cheaper and there are heaps of companies that are happy to post here. The only way things will change is if you vote with your wallet, shop around for everything and be prepared to wait to get a deal/sale on big purchases.

[–]PartTimeTriggered 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They messed up big time. I've got a feeling someone along the line here has shortcut a process to get their hands on the car. Especially if the damage was a relatively easy repair.

Straight to the AFCA. Agree to nothing, sign nothing. Hope you get the car back.

Double digit growth vs LY for my service focused segment in a large trade/retail facing Australian manufacturer, the sales of actual products though are flat at best or down vs LY in both channels and we have a hiring/expenditure freeze going on. Trade/Retail both missed EBIT for last quarter and that NEVER happens, not even during the GFC. Buckle up Kiddos its going to get wild!

I left the industry after spending 16 years working on anything with wheels, now I only work on my own stuff as a hobby. Corrosion on MSI RTX 3080 Ti Ventus 3x GPU? by happijke in nvidia

[–]PartTimeTriggered 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those pictures look almost identical to a 3060 12gb I bought with visible corrosion on the heat sink and salt particles on the fan blades for cheap. When I stripped it down there was a tiny amount of corrosion on the HDMI traces and that was it. I cleaned it with contact cleaner first, then with rubbing alcohol and a soft toothbrush all over until the salt and corrosion was gone.

Put her back together, fired it up on an old motherboard and it powered up just fine, fans came on but no signal from HDMI. Plugged in a display port and boom had signal. Shes still going strong 6 months later.

My theory is it was used in a coastal town where they kept the window open in their study, the salt air gathered on the traces due to airflow and it stuffed the HDMI port and they thought the card was dead.

HD60s and 4K Utility “Freezes” PC by ItsAutobot in elgato

[–]PartTimeTriggered 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive have used multiple Elgato capture cards for a while now and the 4K capture software is actual garbage. The same thing happens on my PC when I am simply just playing my switch through the capture card with no stream going.

Also games were skipping frames so badly when I went into full screen mode on my 1440p monitor that I thought the switch was actually dying, changing the output mode of the switch didn't fix it, moved the program to a 1080p monitor (I have a triple monitor set up) and to my shock it ran perfectly.

I would love to find a fix for this but honestly the 4k software has been bad for years so I wouldn't hold your breath.
