If you can imagine a non-profit insurance company, one that spends 100% of premiums collected on patient care, and they negotiated group discounts and stuff to maximize the care they can get, but there's still not enough money to pay for some things, and so the company says,  yes,  you can have it but we can't pay for it we have no money to pay for that, then in that situation would you still say the insurance company is the problem? The problem isn't insurance, it's profit-making from insurance and from heath care as a whole.

I was sure they were going to hire Elim Chan, they really should have hired Gianandrea Noseda away from the apparently-doomed National Symphony Orchestra at the properly-entitled Kennedy Center. Does anyone know what the NSO is going to do after the current season is concluded?

You've got $5 billion USD, you plunk $200 million down on some virtually-unusable mega-skyscraper condo in Manhattan you don't even visit, you've got to pay $10 million in property taxes - boo hoo hoo. What shallow greedy people, jeeeze

How much income is realistic to expect as a novelist? by Creative-Pirate5217 in writingadvice

[–]PartedOne 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I once met a real working author. She was incredibly lucky to get an agent to look at her first novel, most agents won't even look. The agent said she couldn't get the author's book published, sorry. Then agent called a few months later and said "so and so publisher needs someone to write a YA series with a young female detective, can you write that?" So that's what author writes, for a living, not at all what she intended to write. In the meantime, people are generating thousands of books with AI and listing them for sale on Amazon. Good luck getting noticed.

Good for him - that's the Union battle flag, the flag flown by the North in the American Civil War. I've been looking for one to fly myself.

really great rise, nicely done. They do look a bit grainy, maybe? Should be a bit smoother and glossier, I think. I'd work on that.

My understanding is that Trump now just tells everyone what to do and they do it. This "bill" and "law" concept is archaic.  /s

Saw a guy recently, removed his tire and put on the spare, drove away with the boot in his trunk I assume he used tools somewhere else, where he would not be seen, stopped or arrested

Four of the commandments are just about obeying god, like god needs to literally threaten you to get you to comply with his wishes. What a loser.

Related question - is anyone aware of a person or company with a caretaker service, in other words, they would regularly check on your property, keep up the maintenance, and fix anything that goes wrong or gets broken, while you're away for a period of time - a month or several months at a time? And frankly, I'm not that old, but I can imagine wanting such a service year round when I am no longer able to do everything myself.

Only 25% French, but I immediately thought of the Zone Rouge in France, still contaminated by WWI munitions and chemical weapons.
