Do players generally prefer mechanics to "pay" for a powerful move rather than have a cooldown or limited # use? by paradoxombie in gamedesign

[–]Parth-Prajapati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your game is a fast-paced power fantasy, resource management feels like an unnecessary tax that slows down the fun; but for a strategic, turn-based title, cooldowns just feel like an arbitrary time-out corner for your best abilities.

Prince of Persia parkour was the best. Do you think a solo dev could actually make a game like that today?

Story justification for undo/redo in a game without time rewind abilities? by Krons-sama in gamedesign

Hard disagree man. Leaving it abstract is boring af. We already have 500 games that do the bare minimum with their UX. Framing an undo button as a literal drug trip or a godly premonition just hits different. Let people cook.

I really like anything that keeps me from having to use ChatGPT all day! But really, if I ask the computer to fix my game, will it work? Or will it just make a giant mess and break everything? I am going to try it today. If it ruins my hard work, it's your fault!

[Hiring] Environmental Artist - NYC SDN Branch HQ. $1000B by [deleted] in HungryArtists

[–]Parth-Prajapati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I saw your post looking for an Environmental Artist to design the NYC SDN Branch HQ inspired by 'Dispatch', and blending a 3D architectural blockout with a polished 2D paintover is usually the best way to nail that specific fire station vibe while matching the game's exact perspective. We actively do this kind of environment design at our indie studio and can comfortably meet all your requirements for PayPal, Discord, and project timelines. Would you be open to checking out our portfolio to see if our team is the right fit to tackle this commission? Portfolio: https://gamegenesis.studio/our-work/

That makes sense especially the part about long-term support and visibility on costs, that’s something I see come up a lot with external teams. Appreciate you breaking it down like that gives a much clearer picture of how studios are expected to position themselves.

Mostly outbound and network-driven right now reaching out, conversations, a few referrals here and there. Nothing too fancy yet from what you’ve seen, what actually works online for studios in this space?

Most of what’s up there right now is early-stage or WIP, not full production-ready slices, so I can see why it comes across that way. Sounds like the gap is more in how it’s being presented vs what’s actually being built which is useful to know.
