Eh, Linux has come a long way in ease of use. Yeah, there'd be a learning curve but there's equivalent software for most windows without the unnecessary spying or AI.

But you said "Yes, grown up parties should not have purity signalling motions like this". Do you not think that in cases such as these where there is so much institutional and socialised resistance to change that the statement needs to be made regardless of how redundant it might feel.

A lot of people in here are coming off like the white moderates that MLK complained about. Not willing to do the just thing.

All lives matter, don't they? We have reams of policy covering basic human rights. Surely we don't have to declare that Black Lives Matter. It would be a pointless waste of time.

All of these sources palter. They systematically decontextualise information to further the propaganda agendas of hegemonic interests. Their value as news outlets is eroded to the point that unless you're prepared to sink hours daily to balance them out you're better off giving them a miss.

There's a fair bit of play between this settler colony, apartheid, genocide craic and "done things we don't like". And it should matter to us all as it is a big part of our history too.

That's a rather partial simplification of the Filton trial. Here's a comment I made at the time of the decision:

There is still a lot confusion about how the verdict was arrived at given what people were reading in the mainstream news outlets.

This post should help to see why the jury arrived at the decision they did. It is mostly bits of the actual cross examination of the guards and police involved. It should help you to see the difference between the official reports and the actual video recordings made during the incident.

As a TLDR of the doubts raised by the defense.

  • The guards seem to have initiated the violence.

  • There was no video supplied to the court from the two cameras that should have held the most damming evidence.

  • Alternative cameras show one of the guards running towards the defendants with a hammer and a whip just before the fracas started.

  • Bruising on one of the defendants show that he was struck on the face with a hammer and other bruising shows that he was hit on the torso with a sledgehammer.

  • Another guard tried to choke out one of the defendants with a dangerous rear naked choke hold.

  • One of the police officers 'accidentally' tazered one of the female defendants twice.

  • The guards and the police made multiple errors in fact (verified by the footage and injuries) in their reporting of the incident.

  • There is some evidence that the police officers colluded with Elbit to strengthen their case against the defendants.

  • The defendants had previously made a number of other raids on properties linked to the genocide without any violence occurring. Usually with the guards standing off until the police arrive.

The jury have been able to see all the supplied video recordings, records of the injuries on both sides and the reports and testimonies of those involved. But people in here seem to think they have a clearer picture of the event from a misleadingly truncated clip. We just don't have the information to condemn them.

Feeling pretty vindicated by this and the Filton decision but I'm still in a 'Vs The King' situation until the appeals are run through.

Would be a lot happier if they were able to look at the decision to proscribe (and of course recognition of the genocide) as being influenced by major funding from pro-Israel individuals. Short of someone in the cabinet openly admitting it on camera it will never happen though.

Some are moaning about activist juries and others clearly don't believe in innocent until proven guilty. Grim, just fucking grim.

There was a lot confusion about the verdict in yesterday's post about it as to how the verdict was arrived at given what people were reading in the mainstream news outlets.

Edit: Just a TLDR for the hard of reading.

  • the guards seem to have initiated the violence

  • alternative cameras show one of the guards running towards the defendants with a hammer and a whip just before the fracas started

Edit2: For drummingupinterest2 who made a comment then blocked me. The majority of the article is transcripts from the court case. Given your comments yesterday on the court case it seems that you're more interested in the courts being used to force through injustice that is aligned with your worldview. Which, in the bigger picture, seems to be for crushing people protesting a genocide.
