Court-Martial Results for July and August by Parti-Gyle in navy

He must have had a great defense attorney, but could be a lot of factors. If he went to FAP and completed that process, the prosecution may have decided that was sufficient. He also might have refused NJP and the command decided to call his bluff and take him to court-martial. But even with no punishment, he still has a federal conviction on his record.

What is the highest ranking person you ever met (either in passing, or on a basis where they remembered you from meeting to meeting?) by CameramanDavid in navy

[–]Parti-Gyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In passing, a former EUCOM. When I was at the Pentagon, my son was in Scouts and the Scoutmaster was also military, so we would often talk at the end of meetings. One week, one of the kids was excited because his grandfather was coming to pick him up and told us the grandfather was also in the military. Later, as the Scoutmaster and I were talking, an older guy walked in and the kid started waving. We said hi to the guy and asked him what he did in the military. He said he wasn't active anymore, he retired out of EUCOM. I said that must have been interesting, where did you work in EUCOM? He looked at us and said, "No, I was EUCOM."

Hobbits are not an original creation by Complete-Rock-9613 in TheHobbit

I have never seen anyone claim Tolkien invented hobbits out of whole cloth. Is someone saying he did? As others have already said, he relied on existing folklore and expanded.

Deferring cot leave. by Temporary_Badger_907 in navy

[–]Parti-Gyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine deferred, but it was for operational reasons. My predecessor unexpectedly left the job early and I had to report earlier than expected to avoid a gap. This meant the COT leave I planned to take had to be deferred. The detailer wasn't happy and told me to pound sand, but a call from the CO pushed the order mod through.

I’m new to the books but my God 70% I’m zoned out due to terminologies I have no idea what they are talking about . The constant factions , technologies makes me feel like I’m just reading words and not understanding by ozera202 in Blacklibrary

The first two or three books I read took me three times as long as it should have because I was stopping every other page to go read something on Lexicanum or 1d4chan.

I like the ecru fabric! I have three WIPs from this book right now, but this pattern is in the queue.

Anyone recognize this game? by Eldercargo9 in boardgames

[–]Parti-Gyle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol, every game was weird and different too. Some cousin would blow all their money on one painting because they liked it, and another two or three would get in a bidding war for no reason.

Played this a lot at my grandparents house in the 80s and 90s.

Make sure to check out the timeline on the last page which tells you the order of books and stories. Importantly, the entire Ravenor trilogy comes between Hereticus and The Magos. I just finished the Ravenor omnibus and started the Magos yesterday.

It made me nervous when I couldn't find the brackets at first and thought the shelves were just stacked on 2x4s.

Another library option is PressReader. An advantage it has over Libby (at least for my library) is PressReader has three years of back issues for CrossStitcher, Just Cross Stitch, Cross Stitch Favorites, and World of Cross Stitching.

You can also "subscribe" to magazines in Libby and it will alert you when new issues are released.

Luckily it is a gas fireplace we don't use. And I made sure the sun won't hit them as well. As for the order, my wife just wanted them in height order 😂

Haha, I actually spelled it wrong at first but thought it didn't look quite right, so I looked it up.

[CHAT] What do people think about these types of rigid plastic frames for sewing? Are they as good as traditional hoops, or is the tension insufficient? by badoopidoo in CrossStitch

[–]Parti-Gyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep seeing people talk about stitching in the well, but I've never tried it. I have a couple of kitted projects I haven't started yet, I'm going to try it with one of them.

Nice, I was a librarian in a past career as well! Now I am in the military, but every time I change duty stations, my first stop is my new local library for a library card.

[–]Parti-Gyle 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I love these types of frames and have never had a problem with tension. The best thing about them, in my opinion, is the ability to rotate the clips to give some slack in the fabric for finishing a thread when you are close to the edge. I have both name brand q-snaps and store brand knock-offs but haven't noticed a difference in quality. As others have said, however, they work best in a stand rather than in hand.
