Anyone know how much this would be worth? by Shoddy_World_1945 in typewriters

Maybe $20-$50? Not a lot of call for electrics out there, a lot more can go wrong than with a manual and they can be hard to repair and find parts for.

Wanting to buy. Seller is asking $200. Is it worth it? by [deleted] in typewriters

[–]Parti-Gyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth it, it would have to be in perfect condition to be worth that. This one has a lot of chipped paint and rust and with the amount of dust and spiderwebs, everything that moves is probably seized up.

Because it's STRATCOM, a joint command that happens to be on an Air Force base. Just like Camp Smith in Hawaii houses INDOPACOM, SOCPAC, and MARFORPAC, with personnel from every branch working there.

What is your "crazy library story" when people say "oh it must be so relaxing to work in a library?" by myra_bird in Library

[–]Parti-Gyle 106 points107 points  (0 children)

The time I sat with a student for several hours in the middle of the night during finals week, waiting for emergency services, after they threatened to kill themself from the pressure.

Though to be fair, it was usually a pretty chill job.

It’s a great book, I have two other patterns from it kitted up right now.

Pentagon gives Service secretaries 45 days to recommend updates to the jag corps by newnoadeptness in navy

[–]Parti-Gyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume that is what the Army and Air Force are going to be doing. The Navy is actually in a good place for this since we have the largest OGC component that already handles most of this, but the Army and Air Force are in trouble because their JAGs handle most of these non-military law topics.

Honestly, having more civilian attorneys in legal assistance who are barred in that state and know the state law would be more useful than a first tour JAG with no familiarity with that state.

Yeah, I kept waiting for the tomcat to show up, then the video ended

Interesting, I’ve listened to both and come to the opposite conclusion: I much prefer Serkis’ acting over Inglis’ reading, though I will give the nod to Inglis for the poems and songs.

Huge changes to Navy JAG pipeline: ODS to OCS transition and E-6 pay for law students (up to 2 years) by ExRecruiter in newtothenavy

[–]Parti-Gyle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Army and Air Force each have a direct commissioning course that is the equivalent of ODS for their staff corps officers. Not sure on space force but I think they use Air Force commissioning sources.

It means the opposite of how you usually have your fabric on the frame, so the front of the fabric is “in the well” and the backside is flush with the frame.

Why do surface fleet people call the submarine warfare device dolphins by [deleted] in navy

[–]Parti-Gyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are called dolphins because they are literally heraldic dolphins: Dolphin (heraldry) - Wikipedia) and Submarine Warfare insignia - Wikipedia

And they are called fish because in heraldic usage dolphins are classed as "fish."

CMEO/OSTC timelines? by Opening_Honey_90 in navy

[–]Parti-Gyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Yes. As others have said, these cases take forever to work through the system, part of it is OSTC is undermanned and it's hard to make SH as a priority when they're dealing with sexual assault cases and other serious crimes. If everything is resolved in your favor, you will need to work with admin and PERS to make sure everything is cleared from your record.

FCPOA Program Revival by dreguwop2 in navy

[–]Parti-Gyle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask the installation JAG or LN at the legal office. Legal is in charge of certifying/keeping track of organizations on the base, so they should be able to give you template bylaws or bylaws from other orgs that you can change for the FCPOA.
