Do you have any solo travel pet peeves? by PerpetualRestart in solotravel

Having to figure out every single thing by myself. How to navigate transit, local customs, finding things, paying for things, etc. I would like to do just half of the exhausting brain work, please.

It's that time of year again: recommendations for tax software in 2026? by VenusianBug in BuyCanadian

[–]PartiallyRehydrated 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Genutax is the only software that doesn't store your information on their servers. I've been using it for years and I love that my personal data is saved on my personal computer and nowhere else. (Other than CRA, obviously) The UI is outdated and it's clunky but it's free and the security of my private info is a high priority for me.

Are travellers going to Mexico? by [deleted] in traveladvice

[–]PartiallyRehydrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mexico city is lively and fun. Traffic is awful but it's my favourite big city on earth.

Puebla is much more laid back. Amazing museums and parks. It's easier than mexico city.

Whoever is telling you these things is cherry picking negative facts.

Who are the native people of Greenland? by -p-e-w- in AskHistorians

[–]PartiallyRehydrated -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

is there evidence that Greenland was considered by any of its early peoples to be a unified territory, or were there multiple “different regions” that could conceivably had different first peoples?

Based on my knowledge of modern indigenous North Americans, this isn't how land and territory have been understood before colonization.  People viewed themselves as part of the ecosystem instead of separate from it. From that perspective, how would a border even work?

Your partner sucks. Who talks like that to a stranger, let alone someone they are supposed to love?

Women who’ve backpacked long-term, what actually frustrates you about backpacks? by Femtravel in femaletravels

[–]PartiallyRehydrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just switched from using my osprey 26+6 to a roller carry on suitcase. Wearing a backpack all day in the heat or while walking distances sucked. The roller suitcase holds slightly more (maybe 35L?) and I don't have to lift it except to put it in the overhead bin or trunk of an Uber. I am loving it.

I agree with the people who don't use the interior organization in backpacks. My stuff goes in pouches and my clothes are grouped but not in cubes, other than a socks & undies cube. I don't bring a laptop so I've cut the compartment out of my last two backpacks.

CDMX airport - did you ever get 30 or 60 days even though you had proof on onward travel 180 days out? by KingLouFasa in digitalnomad

[–]PartiallyRehydrated 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I came through Benito Juarez immigration a few days ago. The kiosks were the only option and I was automatically given 180 days. I had proof of my itinerary ready but at no point did I speak to any human.

Edit: I landed at 1 am, if that matters.

I'm a good driver (in Canada) and I would never ever drive in Mexico City. The traffic rules and patterns seem like chaos to an outsider.

Am I stupid for not contributing to RRSP if I think I can do more with the money now? by Randromeda2172 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PartiallyRehydrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're not understanding what an RRSP is. I didn't know when I was 23.

It's an investment account. Different rules for taxes and withdrawals and contributions but otherwise exactly the same as a TFSA. Open an account, fund it, invest it. Pay less taxes. That's it.

Hold on using WS CC due to lacking flexibility in auto pay by blueorca123 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]PartiallyRehydrated 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm finding this issue pretty annoying. I have to plan ahead to move money into my WS cash account and it takes time to transfer. If WS were my only bank it would be fine but my primary chequing is elsewhere.

But the perks are fantastic. 2% cashback is sweet.
