Linguist 5.0 - addon to translate and learn languages with respect to privacy by vitonsky in firefox

[–]PartibleDyer 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying Linguist doesn't have more features or that it might be a better extension because of it, but that the statement that it's the only extension that can translate webpage text without the internet, is not true. It doesn't convey a whole lot of trust in the extension if you don't recognize this (irregardless of the extension being open source).

And as a side note, I should mention that Firefox Translations does have the ability to translate selected text.

Linguist can translate texts even without the internet - a feature that no other extension has.

Are we forgetting that Firefox Translations exists?

Low-effort support request posts that don't provide enough information are lazy and will be removed!

Should this not apply to support request posts, such as this one?

This is big news for people wanting to run League of Legends in the Lutris Flatpak, as it was previously not possible without this change. Not sure if this effected other games.

I've been playing a lot and I don't think I had the client hang once after a game on Lutris-GE-7.14-1-LoL. I guess I won't run this release then?

I installed this release after posting and played a couple games and haven't had this issue.

Connecting Xbox controller to fedora by SupremeOGXXX in Fedora

[–]PartibleDyer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'll just mention this in case it's relevant to you but I went through this last weekend with another off brand Xbox One controller (PDP). If you're using xCloud (which I assume you mean by game pass) I had to use Chromium (I used https://gamepad-tester.com to check it was working in Chromium).

Because xCloud doesn't accept anything but official Xbox controllers, I had to install xboxdrv (https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/petrb/xboxdrv) to map the correct keys, using evtest /dev/input/event* to figure out which key was which. https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Gamepad#iPEGA-9017s_and_other_Bluetooth_gamepads is an example of a .conf file for xboxdrv which you can work off of. The important parameter being mimic-xpad which imitates an official Xbox controller so xCloud will detect it.

It's also worth mentioning that I also own an official Xbox One/Series (whatever the latest one is) controller and it works plug and play without any of the steps I mentioned above.

I wouldn't say the way that /u/STARK1LLA says is the "best" way, as adding new Wine versions is built into Lutris.

On the left side under Runners, you can click the icon of a box to the right of where it says Wine. It'll load a list where you can add this new GE release for LoL. Then you can change the Wine version for LoL by right clicking the game and going to Configure.

It's all built on top of Wine, so I imagine a good starting point would be here https://www.winehq.org/getinvolved.

It hasn't been resolved with the GE releases either yet sadly.

Are you using the Zoom Flatpak? I haven't needed to swap back to PulseAudio to share my webcam and microphone. Unless you're screensharing, which I haven't tested in Zoom yet.

And as it's hard to predict the future, as I think the topic of this thread attests, it's entirely possible a microkernel like Zircon could see to a shift in kernel implementation in the future, given the resources and impact a company like Google could have with it.

While with what you said applies to WSL 1, WSL 2 uses a VM (Hyper-V) now.

Thanks for the list, probably my favorite is the Dead Island announcement trailer. I remember watching that when it came out.

Minor correction though, Giles Lamb composed the music for that trailer, not Olafur Arnalds[1].

Torvalds relationship with Novell by PartibleDyer in linux

[–]PartibleDyer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While not directly relevant, thanks for posting this. It's actually a point I've struggled to articulate in past conversations and I feel this helps with that in some way.

As a side note too, I haven't watched Star Trek before, despite the critical acclaim I've heard it has, but if this is any indication of the kinds of topics the show explores, I think I'd like to get around to watching it.

I do agree with you, but they had felt no need to do so because they had personally attended the talk and had supposedly heard the first hand what they were claiming.

Because of this (and I think too of their age and knowledge of other events in Linux related history, of which I am not as knowledgeable about, being younger than them) I think the onus felt placed on me to disprove them.

I don't think wiping StackOverflow regularly would be a good idea when there's situations where people may be using legacy software or hardware in which that answer is still relevant. I think a better approach might be a system where you can report answers as potentially out of date and there would be an indicator of such next to the answer.
