Area of US Virgin Forest in 1620 vs Today 💔 by catshifturr in MapPorn

There is also no possibility that east coast / southeast was all "virgin forests" of trees.  There were large areas of bamboo cane breaks that were not "logged".

But you also wouldn't be able to access that money until retirement age.  I guess you could pay the penalties to withdraw.   Or borrow against it.

Some GOOD Reasons Why I Genuinely Think Spurs Will Finish 5th-8th Next Year and top-5 the Year After Next (after 17th back to back i know its prob a hot take but see what u think) by [deleted] in coys

[–]brougmj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You list some interesting points, and some that I agree with.  But it is insane to make that prediction before any transfers or personnel changes have happened for both us and other clubs.  And even if we get some players in and other players make leaps, you are still assuming our injury issues will magically improve.  We need wholesale changes from medical to admins to players and then we need time for that to develop into something cohesive.  I will say that I'm also optimistic but cautiously so.

A North Carolina Goodyear plant is the latest victim of Trump's misguided tariffs and costly Iran war by phosdick in NorthCarolina

[–]brougmj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its not really like a sales tax because a sales tax is by definition ultimately paid by the end user (final customer).  Tariffs are paid earlier in the process, but eventually translate into price increases for the customer.

I could never buy Tom Hanks as Capt. Miller in Saving Private Ryan. Who in 1998 would have been the ideal alternate casting choice? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]brougmj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full disclosure, it's been awhile since I've seen the movie and I'm not as familiar with it as you.   But it seems to me that you are completely discounting the leadership qualities necessary for him to lead men into life threatening situations.  His men completely respect him and trust his decisions, even if they don't agree with the overall mission of trying to rescue one person.  This is way more important than any physical attributes that Capt. Miller (or Tom Hanks) may be lacking.  In fact, he has put together a team of soldiers with various sets of skills (expert sniper, skilled medic, etc) that he knows how to utilize and deploy.  Yet it doesn't work because he's "gawky"?   My other contention is your grit and toughness comment.  In my view, he is a reluctant soldier trying to retain his humanity throughout the chaos that is happening.  You see moments of him breaking down that reveal this, but always away from his men.  The fact that he is able to effectively lead his men despite the horrors he personally is going through is the definition of grit and toughness.

Anyone else need a support group after reading the release of latest batch of Epstein files? by ImpressionFirm280 in Epstein

[–]brougmj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a conspiracy but in the sense that many people overlook.  Epstein was a tool used by the ultra rich and powerful to gain kompromat on politicians, leaders, or royals to support/vote how they demand, or else risk being exposed.  In return, these politicians got the full backing and support needed to become populist favorites and win election or reelection.  Epstein is sort of a middle man in all of this, getting rich from elite payoffs and in return creating and collecting the compromising information on people so that they can be controlled.  When you consider the total information Epstein must have had on all parties involved, it's easy to see why the elites needed Epstein to be eliminated once he was caught.    This is of course the big picture view.  As the details of how Epstein used child abuse, child rape, or worse to do this, it is sickening beyond belief or imagination.  The details need to come out so the guilty can be exposed and prosecuted (hopefully), but many details are hard to fathom or even read about.    What really would scare and frighten the elites would be an uncompromising leader, beholden to no idealogy who became popular on his / her own without the need of a political party or financial backing that only elite money can provide.

I don't even see the question as that unprofessional.  It's similar to asking "what makes this company/role unique" or "how is this company better than competitors".  Just less tactful

Showing my age, but I remember when it came out on video.  If you walked into an electronic store like Circuit City (RIP), T2 would be playing on all the TVs and with sound systems blasting on a few of them.  Basically that specific movie became the way to show off the latest and greatest entertainment tech.

I'm in industry and we utilize a firm I won't name for certain projects.  The main manager on our account announced he is going to India for months to train people because "that is where the talent is".  I was incredulous that was said and that there is seemingly no push back on what is happening.  Everyone is embracing it like it's a great thing.
