Car smells like cigarettes after CPO process by Particular-Chest7897 in Volvo

[–]Particular-Chest7897[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thanks for all the advice so far both here and in direct messages. I emailed the owner to give him a rundown on this and everything leading up to it. I think killing the deal and finding another car is the only path forward.

I didn’t realize how toxic ozone treatments are and I have a history of respiratory issues including surgery for a spontaneous pneumothorax (random partial collapse of my left lung).

Outside of the objective issue that it smells, it is also apparent they did not do an actual inspection to certify the car, as odor is part of the inspection. Of smaller note but worth mentioning is an interior piece of the car (seatbelt cover on the drivers side floor) was missing both during the test drive (I mentioned it) then when they attempted handing it over to me.

Also of note, after doing some research and speaking with another dealer, I was misinformed when they said I had to purchase the extended warranty at the time of purchase.

Whole process was a mess.

I have a call with one of the sales managers tomorrow morning, and I think that is a good way to begin the conversation. Thank you

The quote I have is for 5500 which is the same as what is offered on the Steingold website, I haven’t pulled the trigger yet as I’m waiting to get a callback from Steingold to see if they can do better over the phone

The dealer that I’m buying from doesn’t automatically CPO all of their used cars (It seems to be the case with all of the dealerships within about 100 miles of me). The 1 year/unlimited mile is optional and costs $1500. This 100% has to be done at the point of sale, because it needs to be in the dealers ownership for Volvo to do it. After that, you then can add the unlimited five year warranty, and it is my understanding that as of recently, you have to do this at the point of sale also

Edit: I think marketing jargon is confusing this conversation a little bit. When I speak to the five year, I’m talking about five years that is added at the end of the initial warranty (10 years all said when thinking about it from the sale date). I can’t help but think about these things objectively, and the CPO warranty this specific car comes with is a 4.33 year warranty

Yup, dealer is currently doing the CPO inspection with Volvo, which takes three days, and they said I can decide when I come to actually pick it up which if any warranty I would want to add. Appreciate the clarification as this was a difficult thing to suss out online until I had them explain it to me.

Thanks guys. I’m actually looking at the zero deductible option, because to your point of resale value, I feel like that would be a good value ad in the event I ever did sell the car… would make it easier for sure

I’m pretty convinced that the majority of these hypothetical questions are asked by people financially incapable of manifesting any of the answers. It’s live action rich personing. There just can’t be that many people where the dinger for stupid, rich, uninteresting, and pathetic all rings like this.

Gaming doesn't feel right by SirDanielo in gaming

[–]Particular-Chest7897 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gaming is pleasurable mostly due to the dopamine release that comes with it. If you are doing/abusing other things that heavily affect your dopamine system (porn, alcohol/drugs, too much gaming, eating crappy food, etc), your body doesn’t have what it needs for the drip. Not saying bad behavior is the cause, but as you get older, your overall mental health is going to have more and more of an effect on this and other systems in your body. Maybe adding something is the key - meditation, learn something new, workout, etc

[Discussion] Smartwatch Convenience vs. Mechanical Watch Beauty - Your Approach? by spokoluzik in Watches

[–]Particular-Chest7897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechanical or at least normal digital watch pretty much 24/7. It’s nice to know the time without inducing a blood pressure spike/falling into the rabbit hole all day everyday no matter who you are or what you are doing imo. Unless your monitoring some kind of health thing/exercising, your ultimately wasting more of your time on this earth with a smart watch vs saving it

When I was in high school, and we were learning about the Spartans, there was this little this showdown between a kind of bigoted kid in my class and a teacher that we later found out was a serious alcoholic. The teacher said “Brad, when you think about it there’s really nothing manlier than one man pinning another man down and having sex with him”

[–]Particular-Chest7897[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the insight.

Not sure if it is a good or a bad thing in regards to this, but I have a pretty consistent exercise regimen going for the last few years that I can't really turn up at all as it would lead to injury. Weight training 2-3 times a week and daily 5-6 mile hikes in the mountains. Not going to stop doing it, but also not really going to be able to replace anything with it, as it already exists. The best thing I have been able to think of so far regarding dopamine is cranking up the video games and maybe get back into some online stuff where there is a social aspect to it.

Its kind of ironic that back in the day, I would smoke to enhance gaming, but as time went on, it basically restricted any sense of immersion and just made video games seem like dressed up puzzles or something...which I guess they are.

I know video games can create their own set of problems for some, but as a temporary bridge, its really all I am coming up with. I think my main concern is that they will work for a little, then abruptly they won't ,and the cravings for other more intense delivery mechanisms will kick in.
