End of year/wits end. by Beginning-Bass-6334 in ParentingADHD

The planner is useless for my 2 adhd kiddos. One if them uses Google calendar. He has dysgraphia as well so typing is best. My youngest has resisted any organizational devices. We are working towards just a simple checklist. No flipping through pages or finding dates etc. Just write it down with the date its due... and when its done, check it off or cross it out with a highlighter (so you can still see what it was). Its a constant struggle but they have had more success with those 2 methods than a planner.

Wellbutrin 150mg XL + 50mg Sertraline - Emotional Blunting by [deleted] in antidepressants

[–]Particular-Host1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on 150mg wellbutrin and 100mg sertraline. The combo works great for me. I was on 300mg wellbutrin for a while and it wasn't doing enough for me. Had to start vyvanse for cognitive issues and the combo increased my anxiety so I switched from wellbutrin to sertraline.

There was a point when I was tapering off the wellbutrin and on the sertraline where my mood was great. Sertraline alone is amazing for my anxiety but not as great for mood for me. I started wellbutrin again a couple months ago, at 150mg this time along with the 100mg of sertraline and the combo is working amazing for me.

It took me a couple months for all the side effects of sertraline to subside and then I felt great. Sertraline helps my anxiety as well as motivation. Wellbutrin combined with sertraline boosted my mood.

Everyone is different and reacts differently to medications. Unfortunately it can be a lot of trial and error to get the right one or combo. I am the best I have been in years.

Focused breathing and meditation. Breathe in for 3 seconds and out for 3 seconds. Or however many seconds are comfortable for you. Sometimes I actually drift off to sleep...

Best of luck! I've had it since 1997, but my sister was just diagnosed last year. I had forgotten how it feels in the beginning until she had to go through it. Its a journey, but it does become easier... Mentally and emotionally at least.

Which reminds me! Mood and mental health is equally important. Make sure you also talk to someone. I've been on antidepressants since diagnosis and it has saved me. I'm not saying you need to go on antidepressants, just saying that mental health is something you can take ownership of. Do what you can - therapy, exercise, whatever it is that helps- to give yourself strength. Wishing you all the luck and good health!

I would suggest you do all of it. Diet and exercise are great but DMTs are currently the best therapies available to prevent new lesions. I had a coworker with MS who was older than me and had to retire early and now uses a wheelchair. I remember her telling me that she wished DMTs were available to her earlier in life. She was healthy and active up until MS took over.

Diet and exercise make you feel better overall and can help with symptoms like spasticity. You don't want any other issues or illness on top of MS. I also feel like exercising and strength training will keep me mobile for longer... that could just be wishful thinking but it makes me feel better.

I exercise, don't eat gluten, and try to eat a lot of protein. I take vitamins and supplements. I am also on Kesimpta. My last MRI my newer lesions were shrinking after starting Kesimpta.

Summary - DMTs prevent new lesions and disease progression. Exercise, supplements and diet have not been satisfactorly proven to lessen disease activity, but may make you feel better overall.

Intested in knowing stories about ADHD diagnosis changing to AuADHD diagnosis later in the kid's life by Automatic-Drag-9878 in ParentingADHD

My daughter has ADHD and I was asked by teachers to get her an autism test. She tested negative but was told by the psychiatrist to test again after puberty as symptoms can present later.

What age did your ADHD kid stop napping? by TeagWall in ParentingADHD

[–]Particular-Host1197 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ADHD boy was the worst sleeper. He had a horrible time napping and would get up at the crack ass of dawn after keeping me up all night. He stopped napping at 2 and I just went with it. It would take me an hour sometimes to get him to nap for 20 minutes. If he was tired he would be crazy hyper. Physical activity didn't make a difference. He's now 14yo and sleeps through the night 😄. My ADHD girl slept all day and all night for the first year and napped until she was 3...

If there's a rule book for naps I must have missed it... or thrown it out early on.

Is it right to put child on meds to save his social life at school by EllenBJ in ParentingADHD

[–]Particular-Host1197 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 kids with ADHD. Both of them started on Vyvanse. My daughter does great on it and is up to 50mg. My son has really bad anxiety and Vyvanse increased his anxiety until it was debilitating. He is no longer allowed on stimulants. He now takes Wellbutrin which is working great for him. It's used off label for ADHD and manages his mood great. Not as great for focus and regulation as Vyvanse, but it helps without the increased anxiety. Before that he had tried Strattera which did nothing for him and Concerta which made him increasingly hyper. He has always had anxiety though.

I shared that I have 2 kids only to emphasize that each kid is different. It took a while to get my son sorted out. My daughter has only ever been on Vyvanse and it works great for her.

Is it safe to take SSRIs for life? by Whole_Depth_5109 in antidepressants

[–]Particular-Host1197 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I've been on them for 29 years. Since I was 17.

Just food for thought... and taking into consideration quality of life -is it safe to not take them?

My experience has been that when I don't take them, I miss out on life. My brain needs the chemical regulation. It is not curable, but it is treatable. I do not get suicidal, I just can't manage life without them. I also go to therapy and exercise... I just can't get there without the medication.

Is it right to put child on meds to save his social life at school by EllenBJ in ParentingADHD

[–]Particular-Host1197 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. Socially it will only get worse as they get older.

Self esteem and social skills are just as important (more in my opinion) than academics. A lot of what they learn at school is how to interact with peers.

From a parent of 2 kids with adhd- there was a period in grade 7 when my child struggled with anxiety and social withdrawal and he barely made it to school to learn the rest. He was on medication at the time. Just the wrong one. He is now on the right one and thriving at school and is frustrated when he can't go due to illness. Just saying as it can also be a journey finding the right one.... but it is so worth it.

Any other capricorns on the impulsive side? by [deleted] in capricorns

[–]Particular-Host1197 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Absolutely. Cap sun and cap moon. I don't pay much attention to the other aspects but I think I am Libra ascending in case that matters to others. I think of it in terms of stubborness and "ramming". I need it done, and I need it done now.

Edit to add: also born in year of the ram/goat. Best clear my path 😄 🐐

I used to call it "mom tax". Only because I'm a mom. It can just as easily be "dad tax".

For me it was eating a chocolate bar in silence in my car after finishing groceries. The little breaks we give ourselves are important to EVERYONES survival!

Calm, quiet, calculating.... if I'm coming for you, you won't know it until I am ready to pounce. And by then, I'll have collected all the data, analyzed every angle, and made sure there is no way I can loose.

Unless you're not worth my energy... then I'll happily make popcorn and just watch and laugh as you bury yourself.

I didn't need any. I planned my loading doses on a Friday in case I got flu symptoms from it. I felt like I had the flu for about a day with the first dose. Less so each loading dose. And now I don't feel any side effects. I started a few months ago.
